Our previous dog started to eat poo when out and about after she got fed up with her puppy kibble. I read up about it and learned that it can mean the dog doesn’t get enough of sone nutrients. I switched her to wet food and the poo eating stopped completely after 2 days. It was a huge relief!!!!
The younger of our 2 dogs would eat his poop. We started spraying it with a bitter apple spray. He didn't like the taste of the spray and eventually stopped eating poop.
I have an 8 year old cavalier. She has never had an ear infection. 2 things will help you stop the problem all together. Lift the ears several of times a day and let out what I call the heat pocket. The first time you do it, you will know what I'm talking about. Second keep the ears dry no matter what. From rain, swimming etc. Get them dry asap. Also, when bathing wash the under ears twice, the first will get the first layer of wax and sweat off, the second will get the rest. When hosing the shampoo out hold the dogs nose slightly up and hold the sprayer beside the dogs cheek and rinse. So the water flows straight back and not directly into the canal. Allow the dog to shake their head as much as they feel they need to after baths and it will help shake out any water that may have dripped into the canal.
Another good idea for the problem of the dog eating the cat poo…. Find a closet of basement or a certain room where you can put the litter box. Install a special cat door flap into the closet or basement door, which has cat door that only opens for your cat. Many cat doors will only open (unlock) for a specific cat, by either being paired to your cat’s microchip or paired to a Bluetooth tag that is attached to your cat’s collar.
Hello Dr. Scott! I live in the USA. I’m going to be 70 in a few months. And I’m going to be moving into an assisted living facility shortly. If I could have a pet, I’d love to have a rescue pet. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed. Thank you for all you do for the animals!
My sister in law has a Great Pyrenees that has been having such severe anxiety and fear of storms that he has been jumping through plane glass windows (older home and haven’t had a chance to do updates yet) to get out of the house. They’ve tried to have him in separate rooms while they’re at work, he chews through the wooden door. They’ve crated him, he breaks out of the crate then the house. Even broke out of a crate that was meant for police dogs… and then scaled a wall in their concrete garage to escape the tiniest of windows that were 7-8 feet up high.
I have my litter box in a small closet with a baby gate that has a smaller door near the bottom for the cats to enter (bought it on Amazon). The large dogs cannot enter. 🙂 My sister has a step stool in front of her litter gate so the small dogs can't get through, but the cats can hop onto the stool and into the 'litter room' to poo. When you have indoor cats and dogs, ya' gotta think outside the box....no pun intended. ;-) Blessings from Texas! 🤠🤠💖💖
Thank you doctor Scott. I love your work and passion for not only pets but for rescues as well. As a rescue owner myself I know the trial and tributaries of a nervous dog ❤❤
Hallo Mango. Glad to see you're settling in nicely. Hope the human training is going well. Good boy. Sleep well. Pity there isn't a catnip herb for dogs... Is there a global push for animal breeders to be more humane is their breeding choices, whether it be birds, small pet breeds, cats & dogs etc now that we are generally more aware of animal welfare issues. I wonder in PETA is looking into this... Looking forward to your next Q&A.
Great tips for many issues. I had a very mini foxie and 2 large cats, whom she would run from if she even thought they were going to swat her. Often she's tease and tease so they'd lose their cool. The said foxie also loved the litter trays, she would actually stand and watch the cat poo and jump in if we didn't stop her. Of course her breath was then disgusting and she was at arms length for some time. It wasn't possible to separate the trays into other rooms, we spoke to our vet who said that cat poo was like a sweet to a child so we monitored as best we could. We made sure though when worming was done the cats were locked into a room until they were cleared.
Mango is the best. Love this Q and A. With the cat and dog not getting along, I think what also helps is giving the cat who doesn't like the dog a way to get up high - so a cat tree or a high walkway of some sort might also help. Cats in general like to be up high, that's their safe place. It does sound like there's some jealousy going on. Excercise will help too. I think too many people ignore the fact that cats need stimulation and play. Yes they sleep 18 hours a day, but they need play and stimulating games too. Don't let them get bored, they can also become destructive and angry too, just like dogs. I cannot believe show ring judges have not changed the rules regarding pugs and boxers. This is when I think some other ruling organization needs to step in and over rule these bloody organizations who are reaping in millions of dollars of profits and doing nothing to prevent these breeds who literally can't breathe. It makes me livid. And they have the gall to call themselves animal lovers and judges? Are you freakin serious?
I have two cats that I got when they were six months. From then to now (they're 14 years old,) they need a fresh bottle (it plugs in) of pheromone each month. I can tell when it runs out because they start bickering. It's amazing that they still need it, but they do/I was allergic to cats, but by being exposed to them, the allergy went away, so of course, Dr. Scott is correct.
Hi Dr. Scott, looks like all is well with Mango, and the bond looks solid! Great mini class, really is helpful for newbie’s, and specific problems a pet owner may have not encountered before. Really appreciate all that you do to make the relationship between animals and their humans the best experience. Thank you!🐕💕👍
Thank you for going thru a few of the issues that dog owners can come up against. On another episode could you discuss the benefits of acupuncture & laser therapy? I volunteer at a dog rescue in Northern CA & have fostered many dogs. I have personally done acupuncture/ Chinese medecine for my own medical journey for over 30 years. A while ago I had a permanent foster who had cancer. The rescue could not afford chemotherapy & other cancer protocols but I took him in for acupuncture & laser therapy & it extended his life for almost a year. If you could comment on alternative modalities as part of effective veterinary care I would appreciate it.
Thank you for this very informative session Scott. A few years ago I had a cat-litter vs 'nosey' dog scenario and, at night would put my cat's litter tray beyond the reach of the dogs....on top of my washing machine ensuring she had a two step ease of access to get to it, and during the day when I was at work, my little cat was in the bedroom wing of the house and the dogs in the living area. Worked well for us all for 17 years until our beloved little queen passed over the rainbow bridge! It's a joy watching you and Mango enjoy eachother's company. I just have a slight concern....Mango has the most beautiful ears and you clearly think so too. I'm just a little concerned Mango's going to end up with even bigger earflaps given the stroking those ears are getting 😂😂. I perfectly understand the irresistible action though....many decades ago my first dog was a beautiful, utterly adored Black Cocker Spaniel and EVERYONE who met him immediately stroked his silky soft ears....he didn't complain 😊.
Really interesting video, thanks Scott 👍🏻. When talking about arthritis you mentioned an injection that works with the immune system that you said was incredible. What is the name of this injection please and why do you think this is incredible ? Thanks 😊. Looking forward to more videos 👍🏻🐶👨⚕️
in answer to the last question of the dog with ear infections, my vet recommended plucking her ear canals to allow ariflow and reduce the chance of infection. I also used an acidic ear cleaner after she had been swimming. Her ears still got mucky at times, but we had far fewer infections. I hope this helps
For me and my rescue dog "Clomicalm" was the perfect solution. Training did not seem to work, than doing training with clomicalm made all the difference. Now he can stay home alone without any medication.
My daughter has two cat litter boxes....one she put in a real large plastic container with the lid snapped on....then cut a hole that the cat can comfortably get through to the litter box inside....if possible angle the box hole that makes it hard for dog to get to litter.......she also has a large old Armoire....that she cut a hole in bottom and cat box inside....so she just opens the doors to clean litter box.....😊
Such a special, informative video. You explain everything in such easy terms to understand. Thank you for sharing. Having Mango by your side makes everything extra adorable! Thanks Dr. Scott. 🧡
Mango is such a sweet and lovely boy. A pheromone difuser helped a lot with one of our dogs who became very anxious when she started going blind from progressive retinal atrophy.
I look after an 8 yr old golden lab. When we take walks it seems her mission is to eat every piece of rabbit poop she can find which is everywhere from all the jackrabbits running around
Dr Scott, love watching your videos. How can I stop my dog from eating her own poop 😢 I’ve tried almost everything on the market and she still eats her own poop. She is the most beautiful four-year-old Rottweiler with the best disposition. She’s just a little honey bun.
My son is allergic to dogs and cats, but he’s not allergic to labs and he doesn’t appear to be allergic to my dog who is a miniature Australian shepherd and corgi.❤
Our 12 yr old male rescue cat Tucker has just been dx with metastatic chondrosarcoma. He’s pretty attached to me and sleeps with me every night. We just rescued 3 orphaned kittens from our shop that we intend to keep. They have had all their shots and checkups and the vet has cleared them to live around Tucker now. They have all been introduced with much ensuing hissing (but no attempts at scratching) from both sides. My question is how do we work our way to getting them to live all together without having to sequester any of them? I am trying to make Tucker’s remaining time as stress-free and happy as possible and not make him feel “replaced” already.
so i saw a article here in Canada not sure if its where you are ............ PEANUT BUTTER ⚠ for pets. Dogs can eat and many really enjoy peanut butter. BUT beware, some peanut butter brands contain an ingredient called xylitol, which is toxic to dogs and even eating small amounts can be fatal. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that is often used in foods to keep the product sugar free. Please check the ingredients before offering it to your dogs. have a great week hugsssssss
Suggestion for allergies to dogs/cats. A good air cleaner. Yes, sometimes expensive but worth it. Vacuum at least once a week; more if you can. Brush animal, outside if possible, three or more times a week. For cats, Purina Live Clear cat food reduces the stuff in the allergens by 40%. Slowly transitioning is key to getting them to eat. It took about 6 weeks for the allergies to calm. I also take an antihistamine at bed. There are many on the market. Unless you know what will work best for you, best to buy in small lots. I don’t have a problem with my 2 dogs, but both my cats will take time to sleep with me and they’re who I’m allergic to! I used to scratch my arms until they’d bleed before. Now, we’re a happy family again!
Wonderfully informative video. Could you also talk about Pica? My dog (a rescue BTW) will eat anything; most recently my squishy pillows. What causes it and what can be done about it?
Congratulations on the first day in the new practice! Y'know I think back to Vet On The Hill and some of the people and animals you were really close with. Are they really letting their fave vet get away or are they following you wherever you go? Be interesting to see where this leads.
Loved this as always, thank you 💞 About dogs eating poop, we have used a little soured milk over dry dog food with several dogs and the behavior has stopped, why don't know, but might be worth trying out? ALSO a huge congratulation on your new vet clinick 🎉 so lovely to see your dream come true, well deserved ❤
Hi Dr. Scott, aww Mango is adorable 🥰 Hope the opening today went well. How do I stop my Westie from eating Bird poo, especially the pigeons, we have loads and the neighbours feed them white bread. I've asked them not to. He's always had a sensitive tummy and is usually sick later or the next morning. Any help would be grateful. Thanks for all you do ❤
Hi Dr. Scott, thanks for taking the time to answer viewer questions. It is always a treat to see Mango on video. If anyone is looking for help with helping Separation Anxiety in pets, Cesar Millan has some great videos of how to help animals overcome it. Today is the date that you open up your new Vet Center so best wishes for your Grand Opening.
Our rescue Lhasa Apso has diabetes and our female dogs are obsessed with eating his poop. They don't touch their own or our other male dog's. We don't always catch him pooping in time to collect it before they get to it. Is his poop harmful to them given his diabetes and on insulin status? Love your content. Best wishes with the new practice.
Dr Scott, I have 4 dogs all neutered. Bentley used to be the alpha, but he is 15, and sleeps, cuddles and goes byebye, might zoom in the yard then lay in the grass and chew sticks. Then I have Reiley and Thor, both 6, both large, about 100 lbs. they have begun fighting. Not over food or toys or attention. Its about who goes outside first, and another time, the two dogs were in the great room unsupervised, when Bentley came in barking at someone at the door, and the other two began fighting. One dog seems to get hurt and limp/show pain more than the other, but fur flies on both dogs, both bleed. They mean business when they fight. I don’t know what to do and how to make them stop. Help!!!
I don’t have a cat, my dog eats her own poo, I was told to give her a little pineapple and it makes the poo undesirable to her can’t say as it does. Completely stop her but it slows her so I can get to her before she gets it
Wow didn’t realise how common dogs eating poop was. My 2 were always in the litter tray, even when we had the hooded one. I just thought they were both really gross & jealous of the new cat, thankfully cats go outside now so no litter.
When I was in my late teens, I found a stray Afghan. She was gorgeous - but she had a deep need to roll in other dogs' poo and it was a real challenge. That was many years ago and I don't see Afghans around at all anymore. Is this behaviour common in some breeds?
Dr Scott, my dog had a grade one heart murmur, and in less than three months, went to a grade four heart murmur with congestive heart failure. How can this have happened so fast? I had been asking for a dental cleaning for 2 years, while she was still in perfect health, but my vet declined due to her age (she just turned 15, and is a Chihuahua Jack Russell cross). I'd be grateful for any information and advice you could provide!
I have a really hard question for you my dear cat smudge is scared and I mean really scared of thunderstorms. I've tried alot of things to help him but nothing works. So I sit in the bathroom with him comforting him till it passes. I just don't know what to do any more. He is 10 years old
No cows milk for cats!! If you want to give milk to a cat use the cat milk replacement powder that you can purchase easily all over at any place that sells pet supplies. Cats are lactose intolerant therefore you are harming your cat by giving them dairy products. 🥳
Hi Dr. Scott my grandson has a beautiful pit bull he is deaf he loves everyone around him. He is friendly around everyone he is scared for him to be so friendly with everyone. He worried he is going to be attacked by other animals he can't hear anyone coming up on him. Is there anything he can do for him . He loves his dog very much his name is cheif .
hi, my name is ivis I have a Chihuahua he’s small and he has they told me he has pancreas problem. Is that a cause of cancer or could it be cured because it’s just him and I and my husband passed away is almost 7 months today and I’m alone and the only companion I have is there anyway that I can make his life a little bit better my dog his name is Max and he weighs only 4 pounds so wondering if you can help me
I now this is not the place but I don't now how ells to do this are you still in contact with cris brown bonding vets if so please inform him his photos and name are being youest to con on face book
Hi Joyce, it’s the Rescue Vet team here. All Scott’s accounts have a blue tick & there are links in our video descriptions and bio to the correct accounts, so you’ll know those pages are definitely his. This sounds like a fake account, so I’d suggest reporting it to the social media site. Sorry this has happened! And thanks for letting us know 😊
Mango looks so stinking cute with his head in his Daddy's lap!
I hope your grand opening today goes awesome
Our previous dog started to eat poo when out and about after she got fed up with her puppy kibble. I read up about it and learned that it can mean the dog doesn’t get enough of sone nutrients. I switched her to wet food and the poo eating stopped completely after 2 days. It was a huge relief!!!!
Totally agree
The younger of our 2 dogs would eat his poop. We started spraying it with a bitter apple spray. He didn't like the taste of the spray and eventually stopped eating poop.
This should definitely be the first thing for people to try. Take the root cause away and the 'problem' will disappear too.
You and Mango are meant for each other. He just loves you!

Mango is so laid back that it is amazing for a puppy to be this way. Maybe you could choose my next dog so that she is not hyper. 🤦
I can't handle how cute Mango is. Sleepy , cuddle baby 😍🥰
Hello Dr.
😂What go to the bathroom by myself😂 I be lonely, they think I will sneek out the smallest window in the house😅
THANK YOU SO MUCH for recommending breeders, show judges and the 'business' in general, go back to the previous breed standards. ❤
I have my litter box in a small closet with a baby gate that has a smaller door near the bottom for the cats to enter (bought it on Amazon). Mango is so lucky to have you and your family Dr Scott.
Mango is so cute that I can barely focus😅 those silky long ears😍😍❤️
I was just wondering, how the opening went of your new practice yesterday

Really appreciate all that you do to make the relationship between animals and their humans the best experience. Thank you!🐕💕👍
Thank you for going thru a few of the issues that dog owners can come up against. On another episode could you discuss the benefits of acupuncture & laser therapy? It's a joy watching you and Mango enjoy eachother's company. I just have a slight concern....Mango has the most beautiful ears and you clearly think so too. Hi Dr. Scott and Mango from Venus,Texas,USA ! 🇺🇸
My sis and me are allergic, too, and that's why we got a standard size poodle. They're perfect for people like us!
My daughter has two cat litter boxes....one she put in a real large plastic container with the lid snapped on....then cut a hole that the cat can comfortably get through to the litter box inside....if possible angle the box hole that makes it hard for dog to get to litter.......she also has a large old Armoire....that she cut a hole in bottom and cat box inside....so she just opens the doors to clean litter box.....😊
scott good to see you in green...suits you...
😊 Mango is so relax bless him.
Last time I had a doubled coated dog I sprayed her with Nature's Miracle dander control product.
Love mango ❤
You’re such a good communicator😁. I love all your videos and advice😁. I don’t even have a dog and I still listen!!🤣🤣. This is a cat house 😁💕

And Congratulations on your new practice opening up!! Best of Luck!!🎉🎉🎉❤
Love your videos Dr Scott ! ..Always useful !

Congrats, Dr.Scott for your clinic opening today. I wish you all the success . Love your channel . Love from Ca. ❤❤❤ big hug to mango.

A great video thank you!
I so enjoy your videos. Lot's of information, and Mango doesn't hurt :)
Great Video

Y'know I think back to Vet On The Hill and some of the people and animals you were really close with. Are they really letting their fave vet get away or are they following you wherever you go? Be interesting to see where this leads.
I've heard dog's do not like lemon taste SO put a little lemon on the dogs mouth then spread lemon outside the litter box. That may work.
But cats don’t like citrus, either, so that might stop them using their litter box. 😢

I hope you've enjoyed your day in a new practice.I'm so glad it's open, I don't.
Mango so
Dr Scott, I have 4 dogs all neutered. Help!!!
He🎉 Mango and Dr Scott.
I don’t have a cat, my dog eats her own poo, I was told to give her a little pineapple and it makes the poo undesirable to her can’t say as it does. Completely stop her but it slows her so I can get to her before she gets it
We used a bitter apple spray from our local pet store. It stopped our dog from eating his poop. He hated the taste of the spray on it.
How do you get your cat to take it’s medicine
I have a really hard question for you my dear cat smudge is scared and I mean really scared of thunderstorms. I've tried alot of things to help him but nothing works. So I sit in the bathroom with him comforting him till it passes. I just don't know what to do any more. He is 10 years old
Is Mango a cocer spanual?
Incorrect. It's not Cat Poo. It's Kitty Rocha.
❤❤
Question: Should you feed your cats a bowl of milk every day? Is it bad for them?
No!!! They don't process it well!
No cows milk for cats!! If you want to give milk to a cat use the cat milk replacement powder that you can purchase easily all over at any place that sells pet supplies. Cats are lactose intolerant therefore you are harming your cat by giving them dairy products. 🥳
Water is best for cats, they often want running water hence cat fountains or cat sitting in wash handbasin waiting for tap to be turned on.
@@LG-rescuesAlso lactose free milk can be bought from supermakets.
@@ingalappalainenIt's been available for years BUT it's still cows milk not cats milk.

Do you have a private messenger? I've been talking to a man who says it's you. Dr. Scott Miller. Is it really you or am I being played?
It is most likely a scammer. Don’t reply.
And thanks for letting us know 😊
@@rescuevet Thank you. I appreciate that.
Please be assured that I do like your videos! But this isn't allowing me to like (👍🏼) it.
How do you survive not having an income and a job?
That’s very rude and personal. He’s here to discuss animals only!
REALLY? What concern is that of yours? How RUDE!
Just what do you think these videos are???
No income and job? 😂 who? You?
I agree, very rude
