Nice review. I’ve recently gone back to Solocam bows and they are very much as capable as any human. Kudos to Bear for appealing to the THP and the more budget hunter just wanting to be in Gods creation and not breaking the bank to do it.

The new model Species and this years Legit RTH are the same price, are roughly the same weight, one has a little shorter brace height, and one is a single came. I would choose the legit over the species, solely because of the adjustability of the legit model. 10-70lbs and 14-30inch draw is a fantastic way to get a youth or weaker person started in the sport and they could easily use this single bow for the next 20+ years and it function great as the grow stronger.
As always thanks for the video Nate!

shot a bear legit for 4 years and i took three elk with it. right out of the gate those lower tier bear packages are pretty freakin solid. they have some lower end bow problems like the set screws in the cams loosening from vibration etc but if you just do a good preventative maintenance check before you fling arrows each time you really cant go wrong with these packages.

Got this bow for $325 at Bass Pro.
This is the best sub $400 bow maybe ever. Extremely quiet. Extremely accurate.
Put a good drop rest and maybe upgrade the sight and strings and you've got yourself a BEAST that is below $500.
For sheer performance at under 50 yards. I can't justify paying more for a bow.

Great video! I just recently purchased a Cabela's Uproar RTH, which is made by Bear and has all of the same accessories as their RTH packages and is basically a Resurgence. So why didn't I get the Resurgence since they're the same price? My buddy works at Bass Pro and he gets 50% off Bass Pro and Cabela's products, so I spent $225 on my first bow and I'm consistently hitting 4 inch groups now at 30 yards, just 2 weeks in. Nothing about it feels cheap and while I probably will eventually upgrade, I sometimes wonder if I'll ever even have to, it just feels great. That being said, I've never shot a Mathew's or a Hoyt, etc. but for anyone thinking they need a super high-end bow for their first bow, unless you have tons of spare cash, I'd say just go with Bear! Plus, I didn't have to buy any accessories!

First modern compound I purchased (4 years ago) was a 2013 Bear Legion (320fps, 30" ATA). Great shooting bow. I wouldn't trade my SR6 for it, but really nice for a mid level bow. I've thought about picking up a Bear Paradox single cam as a backup, as it is a tiny bit faster (330 fps) and longer (32" ATA). Maybe you should do a review on the Paradox as well... *wink wink*

I tell them I don't know much and they try to get me to buy the most expensive stuff they sell and won't order anything and when they put the stuff on my bow I have to tighten everything and if I take stuff in there they refuse to put it on my bow.

I rock a 2019 Species I bought used for 200 bucks. Got it set to 28in draw at 70lbs. I'm dead on at 50 yards with cheap Easton 6.5 Hunter 300 spine arrows, 28-grain inserts, 150g broadhead, 25-grain lighted nocks, rocking the pre-fletched bully 2in vanes that come stock. I've done very well at 3D with the setup as well. I would love to get a brand new Matthews VX3 29 with all the best bells and whistles known to man rocking $200 a half dozen arrows, but to be honest, I'm killing it with my cheap-ass Species just fine. Plus my wife isn't trying to murder me for spending 2k on a new compound bow.

Well done as always. Thank you Sir. I am curious if this is much different from the Legit. Our bow shop encourages new bow hunters to & budget minded folk(especially young or female) to look at the Legit.
I am slightly over 6' so they encouraged me to look at Legend as a budget bow. Any thoughts are appreciated.

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  Рік тому

The Legit is a widely adjustable bow for both draw length and weight. Goes 10-70# and huge adjustment. Bear's offering for the highly adjustable market to compete with Mission and Diamond. Good bow, but if you're done growing and can definitely handle 45-60 or 55-70#, the Legend series from Bear is a better option. Much better overall performance, single cam mostly, which is easier to tune and work one. Better back wall as well.

Not putting this down but I bought a Bear about 7 or 8 years ago and was extremely disappointed Maybe different now but from 20 to 30 yards was ok but 40 yard pin was way down from the other pins and 50 yards would not sight in It was all over the place I wanted extreme accuracy for hunting because shooting at an animal is different than target shooting 40 and 50 yards accurately at the target range gives me confidence at 20 and 30 yards in the field I know my bow is performing at its best

Keep in mind: A Bear Grizzly traditional recurve is $400.
That is a stick of wood and fiberglass. No accessories, not even an arrow rest.

What would you say are the main disadvantages of the single cam?
Between the species ev, and the legit, why pick one over the other? I'm currently shooting a cheap "redzone" eBay bow, and looking for the next step up. I was looking at a legit but concerned that at my shorter (27") draw length, I'll have lost a lot of speed / poundage.
Also are there any other bows you'd recommend in this price range?
    Cheers from Australia.

The legit and species are night and say. The former feels like an entry bow, the latter you can die with. The species optimizes performance, speed, and price point over the legit. Hands down.

That’s IBO. Max draw. 70#. 350 grain arrow. Real world for normal draw lengths and weight with hunting arrow will see 230-260. So yes much slower than normal by today’s standards for compounds!

Hello, may I please have another opinion if you don't mind whitetail legend or species ev? I don't see much of a price difference, so I'm wondering if it's worth the extra buck for the whitetail legend. I'm leaning towards the single cam bow just for the smooth draw and less worry of timing issues. If you've shot both, what's your take? Ty

Nothing wrong with a budget or mid price bow for your first hunting bow. The most important thing is to get in the woods and shoot some deer. If you do get a budget bow, you just want to make sure you get one like Bear that’s made in the USA and has quality control. I’ve heard horror stories about the Chinese junk you can get on Amazon.

Dear average Jack sorry to talk to you on your bare species episode but I just finished watching your episode on opening a can of worms, I am a bowhunter been shooting a bow for 37 years I do use n a p spitfires 100 grains my arrow weighs 415 grains and I have never had a problem killing a deer or a hog with it and getting pass throughs, but when you tell people to grow up and stop shooting mechanicals and shoot a fixed blade I have to laugh about that because some of the best hunters in the world use mechanicals for example Levi Morgan uses schwacker David Blanton of realtree still uses spitfires 100 grains, I just can't understand how somebody with just 15 years or so of experience with a compound bow can actually tell people to grow up when really you would love to be 1/8 of what those hunters, I've I've been using spitfire broadheads for close to 30 years and I have never had a failure and I have never had a problem with pass-throughs on deer or hogs, Plus I don't care if you're using a fixed blade or a mechanical if you hit the shoulder bone on a deer or a hog not the shoulder blade you're not going through that with any broadheads, so with that said I find that using a mechanical and tuning my arrows to shoot the same as my field points is 10 times easier than trying to tune a fixed blade, next time before you tell someone to grow up and stop using a particular piece of equipment for archery do your research you're really not that much of a veteran of the compound bow.
