We Tried Portuguese Food | Must Try Local Algarve Dishes

- Trying Portuguese Food in the Algarve. It's our final day here in Portugal and we through we would head out and try some of the local Portugal food.
To start the tour, we headed out to the Faro market, a local gathering of fresh fish, veggies and cheeses. Exploring and making our way through the market we tried food that is essential for Algarve meals, goats cheese, black pig, fava beans and figs before trying some delicious prawns.
Even though we tried Pastel de Nata up in Lisbon, we found a much tastier and more traditional way of eating them here - adding cinnamon on top.
We then headed out to a restaurant called Taska to try some dishes including:
- Arroz de lingueirao which is razor clam rice
- Xarem which is the poor peoples food made with corn flour and clams
- Ameijoas which is the clams
- Muxama which is the Tuna jerky
Afterwards we explored the local town where we tried Dom rodrigo and algarvian sweet made with eggs, caramel, almonds and cinnamon before ending our trip with torta de laranja - the orange cake.

Happy Friday everybody!! So sorry we missed Wednesday upload! Hope you enjoy the final episode in our Portugal series :) - what's your plans for the weekend?
Flying The Nest watch a movie 😃
All the Portuguese people are so friendly and helpful they are delightful, holidaying in Portimao next month and i can't wait
Stephen's parents are legendary 😂 Keep enjoying your time together 😘
hhah you are legendary saying this - they are LOVING reading these comments :)
What I find remarkable in my country is that it has so many different traditions around food. I was born and raised in the North of Portugal, and a lot of our culinary traditions are remarkably different from the ones in Alentejo or Algarve. For all you foodies our there, take a food tour of Portugal from North to South - you won't be disappointed.
Best wishes from Porto
What are you doing to the pastel de nata? 😂😂
That was SACRILEGE!
Quando era pequeno também comia assim :D
@@BlastBreaker eu ainda como é tão bomm
Eu como sempre assim, e delicioso
I was crying, going WHYYYYYYYYYYY
algarve is such an amazing place i was there once i even know a bit of portuguese
Amazing!!! We tried to learn a little while we were here! How long were you in Portugal for
Portugal is a amazing country. Really enjoyed when watched videos. Cant wait for next country.
I'm from Algarve. I live in Loulé, near Faro. Our food is the best. I love "polenta", corn flour, with seafood. We call polenta "Xarem" or "xerem", the name is an inheritance of the Arabs. Sorry my bad english. Thank's for your visit.
At the time the corn was only in América
I love these family videos! You guys rock!
I'm so happy that you guys enjoyed portuguese food!! We have a great variety of portuguese dishes and desserts that you should also try 💛 Hope you come back to Portugal soon 🇵🇹
Portugal é um paraiso ainda assecivel😍
That's some serious Portuguese food and you just made my mouth water and my eyes as well, I;m a Portuguese national living in Wales UK so I know all those flavors and I miss them so much, I can cook many Portuguese recipes and you can check them out in my channel but there are still literally hundred of flavors I can't yet reproduce as we don't have access to all ingredients... FYI the stringy eggs dessert you tried is called "fios d'ovos" which literally means egg strings and there's allot of technic to the process, maybe I'll show you some day :)
Your dad has the most amazing voice!!!!
The cheese looks amazing. We somehow missed this market when we were there a while ago. Good to know for next time! 😃- Trevor

O que acho soberbo no nosso país é a quantidade de tradições culinárias distintas que temos. De norte a sul temos algo unico em todas as regiões.

As a child of Italian heritage, we grew up eating lupini beans! My grandmother from Italy would brine them and can for the family to enjoy. Of course, you do not eat the outside waxy skin, just pop the insides into your mouth. We continue as adults enjoying with a splash of good olive oil, salt and pepper! Great snack :)
Awesome
So glad you've come to Portugal!! I've been loving the videos and I'm glad you enjoyed it! And if you guys ever come back you could try going to the nord, the cuisine is very different although a very few kilometers apart! I'm sure you'd love it as well!
Cheers from Porto!
