  • Aprilia Tuareg 660 Front Sprocket Change From The RS 660 17 Tooth Sprocket!
    My only concern with the bigger sprocket was the lower chain roller of additional chain force that it could have from the chain, but as it turned out the only time it really ever rides on it, and the chain roller is supposed to function like that, is when the swing arm is fully extended down to take up chain slack that could slap up and down against the swingarm. So when I got the bike off of the ATV jack it didn't even touch it. Oh and another positive note the Tuareg still pulls the front wheel up just with the twist of the throttle without popping the clutch, this bike has great low end torque and it idles at 8mph in 1st gear and runs 77mph at 5,000rpm in 6th gear now!

    Did you do the a-PRC system calibration listed on page 83 of the owner's manual?

    • @cliftonsr
      @cliftonsr  Рік тому

      Good question, and believe it or not the speedometer has always been reading a faster speed that what I was actually doing, for instance it was showing 60mph when it was going at 56mph. I probably will do the calibration when I get back to the Tuareg but for the time I am currently setting up the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure suspension project I got going on.

      @@cliftonsr I agree about the speedo error but I think this procedure doesn't calibrate the speedo, it calibrates the speed differential between front & rear tires which affects anti-lock braking, cruise control, and traction control.

      @@bretthawton True, I just changed the engine rpm differential from both front and rear wheel speeds and wheels and tires still spend the same speed and since I didn’t change wheels or tire sizes the speedometer is still off so it does need calibration for sure. The traction control and the abs seem to work the same as before and I don’t need to run the traction control as high as before since it smoothed out the sudden wheel spin on loose terrain but this bike has great low end torque that hardly ever stalls out even on me and I weigh 268lbs with no gear and also now keep traction control off all the time and rear abs is turned off as well. I am with on the aprilia PRC calibration for the bike to have those features to work like they are intended.

    Hello , how much mileage doesyour bike have? Any problems with excessive oil consumption like on rs660 and tuono ?

    • @cliftonsr
      @cliftonsr  Рік тому

      Well I went to the 16 teeth on the front and just went down one tooth to 41 teeth on the rear sprocket because I wanted to keep to the wheelbase as it was factory and closer to the lower first gear it had, so it pulls better down low speeds than the 17 teeth front sprocket, and now it has 16 teeth front sprocket and 41 teeth rear sprocket.

      About 1,500 miles, not too much miles so I am not seeing any oil consumption problems at this low mileage, I have 3 other motorcycles and 2 other atvs I have been riding so the Tuareg has been sitting around too much, I will be trying to keep an eye on the possibility of oil consumption concerns and I appreciate your input and thanks for your comment.

    The rear axle nut is 26(Oem),thanks for the video and info...but...your logoreea and shaking hands make me a little bite..impacient.
    Ok,I'd change the front sprocket from 15 to 16 teeth and ...that's my experience: if you'll ride the bike alone,uncharged all will be fine,the gears will be slightly longer...but with pillion and luggage ,is not so good.
    Vibrations appears ,and seems the 16 teeth front sprocket is not suitable for this tipe of weight,engine,gearbox .
    I'll put the 15 teeth sprocket back.

    Follow up the 17 tooth front sprocket has no issues and I put a lot of miles on and off road!

    How do you like the quick shifter? I ordered one when I bought my Tuareg from Plano Aprilia but the damned thing hasn't come in yet. Should have bought it from AF1 - thats where I buy all my other parts.

      It’s awesome and it’s a game changer not having to mess with the clutch so much, and about getting it from AF1 or waiting to get it from the dealer and having them install it, I would check with the dealer for ETA and if it would take too much longer than ask the dealer if it was Okay for you to just get it from AF1 and they would install it

      AF1 is an awesome company to do business with and most Aprilia dealers are very dedicated and devoted to the Aprilia company because of Aprilia’s superior craftsmanship and pride that goes into their motorcycles that is why they have so many world championship titles.

      @@triprack I had already paid for mine as well to the dealership and noticed it was in stock at AF1 and I thought the same as you and when I was going to call the dealership to tell them that I found it at AF1 but the dealership called me right before I could let them know so I didn’t buy the one AF1 so that was a good thing for me. So I would just call again the dealership to see if they could check to see if it is in route to them, because most of the time I noticed that right after AF1 gets these parts in, the dealerships get them around the same time to a week after other distributors do. So Squatcho just call your dealership tomorrow or the next business day they are open, the dealership probably should have it anytime now because AF1 just started getting them in stock.

    Hey Clifton - just wondering how the 17 is working out.
    I just did about 1000 miles on the 660 and for sure was wishing for a 7th year. Thinking of making the same mod.

      @@twowheelsandathrottle I did the GABRO UPMAP the performance for the slip on Arrow muffler and a DNA air filter kit mod I kept the stock cat and exhaust on the bike and believe me that my 2023 890 Adventure stalls out easier at lugging it in lower rpm than the Tuareg 660 and I love both these bikes.

    Hows it perform now with the different ratio ?

    • @cliftonsr
      @cliftonsr  Рік тому +1

      Feels great and torquey as before and that is hard to believe considering it knocked down the high revs it was doing before in 6th gear, and now on the twisty roads I can use more of the lower gear ranges without constantly popping that rev-limiter blinking at me to upshift all the time. 6th gear on the Highway is great now and useful the way it should be!
