    A tasty dram indeed!
I've had a bottle of Glen Scotia in 2023 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Bottled in the beginning of 2022. Sweet, syrupy, nicely balanced. Cask influence is undeniably there but the spirit character hasn't been bulldozed by it. Last week I had the opportunity to taste another batch, this time from 02.02.2023 and it was even better. Slightly less sweet, more savory and briny, still beautifully dense and substantial. The major difference though was that the more recent bottle had distinctive smoky notes. Very gentle but compared to the previous batch I have tasted the smoke was significantly more present.
As for value, Glen Scotia Double Cask is among the best single malt whiskies in Bulgaria. Currently I can have a bottle of it on special sale for the equivalent of roughly 23 pounds!
    Cheers!

Love Glen Scotia .. my favorite whisky…it’s nice to know it’s just down the Loch as I live on Loch Fyne ..tried a taster of this one in Callander at a whisky shop and bought a bottle before we moved here..managed to pick up the 15 and a first fill bourbon cask at 56.5 % which the George hotel in Inveraray had a barrel of divine really shows what great whisky it is..prefer it more than Springbank and tried a few of those can assure you ..great review

Glen Scotia is already better than Springbank, in my book anyway. I adore Glen Scotia and it’s not being hoarded and price jacked by snobs. Plus I like the whisky better, flat out.

I got a bottle of this whisky about 10 years ago and was a bit disappointed as it had a sulfur note that didn't go away for nearly 6 months of patiently tasting and letting it sit for a few weeks before testing it again. Perhaps it's time to give this one another chance.
*_Edit_* This evening I purchased the Double Cask and I'm very impressed with this current bottling. The nose has notes of butter-scotch, vanilla and a faint oakiness. The flavors on the palate really are very well balanced between the influences of the bourbon casks and the PX casks, so plenty of citrus, pineapple and honey along with some darker, more savory fruit flavors as well. The finish is medium-long and drying.
For a NAS whisky, this is really good stuff. There's practically no "young whisky bite" in evidence. If given a dram of this in a blind tasting, I would guess its age to be 10 to 12 years, and for all we know the majority of the spirit might actually be that old. I may have just found my new "everyday" single malt. Thanks for reviewing this, Ralfy!

Once I had a miniature of Victoriana. I took a sip and it was bitter as hell. I left it sitting on a shelf for a year. After that it was superb. It improved so much and no trace of bitterness at all.
And Double Cask is a very nice and competent malt too.

Greetings Mr Ralfy and thank you for another informative review. I always have one of these or newer entry-level ones, Harbour, in my stock. The price is between AU$82 to AU$89 here, and in fact, I wanted to buy another one lately but found Deanston 12 yr old on sales for the same price. I have reached my whisky purchasing limit for this month, so it has to wait. By the way , there is a whisky live thing going on at the moment in Australia, and I was tempted to buy a ticket, which is AU$155 but after checking the distilleries coming to there, I decided not to do it. It is hard to really taste whiskies in less than 3 hours. Cheers, and have a great week.

I bought a bottle of the Double Cask 3 years ago and really really liked it. I was my first time trying a Campbelltown whisky and it didn’t disappoint. I got the viscosity, resinness, and richness I had been hearing about. I got a mini bottle of the Double Cask last year and it seemed a lot thinner and blander to me. Not sure if there was something going on with my palate or if they really do fill their minis with a different liquid.

Although it's the equivalent of about 60+ pounds here in Western Canada, it was one of my fav Scotches when I tried it. I don't see it around anymore but the 10 year old is now available and it's 15 pounds cheaper. It leads me to believe there is either some older whisky in the Double Cask or they are using their very best casks for it.

    Good job Ralfy!
Here Is something it made me think:
I drink scotch for over 35 yrs now (not always the best one) but I frankly never heard about whisky mist marketing stuff from somebody drinking scotch
I have heard beginners saying it is sweet or it is easy to drink or not too strong (ABV)…. but never too misty
I agree that a reason for filtration coming from producers but is it really coming from consumers demand?
IMO I am not sure that Glen scotia had to filter a bit its double cask to please the traveler or the beginner about mist
Maybe GS wanted instead to create an easy drinking stuff and for instance get rid of a funky tasting note that doesn’t fit with beginners palette and is loved by enthousiastes …
    Cheers 🥃

I quickly became a big fan of this bottle. One thing I’m confused about though… by all accounts I see it’s unpeated, but I swear I taste peat in the background. Anyone else? And this isn’t my first go-around, I’ve been at it for a number of years now. I don’t know, perhaps they reuse some casks that formally held peated malt, or maybe it’s just the way the briny and oak char notes commingle on my palate.

I generally like Glen Scotia, but if I’m gonna pay their premium (but not outrageous) price I save for the older stuff. Because their slightly older stuff is actually a good value for the quality and age compared to other distilleries. Of course, in the US all alcohol is suffering in inflation more than most the world.

Hi Ralfy. I have been following your channel. Your videos are very informational. You recently mention you will be putting up videos with regards to independent bottlers and what a good idea! I have always interested why IB bought the whisky from well known distilleries and yet when the IB bottled them, the whisky are not as good as the original bottling? Also, if the IB bought different casks from a single distillery and blended them, does this malt regard as a Single Malt?

Here in NZ malted grain has gone up in price by 25%. Because of the Ukraine war with Putin. The price of malted barley is controlled by the world market. 20 minutes up the road NZ grown and malted barley has gone up 25% .It totally sucks. My homebrew store is absorbing the price rise to keep his customers. Customers like me are paying more too. The prices, ralfy are going to rise more. This whole my whisky is worth more than yours is going to change. Economics on the world market is going to hit harder than ever before. Excise tax, malt prices .and hops are killing the industry . It's a horrible case of form over function. Other than the effects of the alcohol, whisky is about taste. Why would you strip away taste?
