Thank you for watching! If you spot anything new that should be added, update your SEO gradually rather than all at once. Spreading out the changes will help protect your current rankings.
Thank you! It’s such a simple concept, yet so many overlook it. Everyone’s quick to push spending money on products, meanwhile I’m focused on keeping things free for everyone.
I've watched tons of videos on this very subject and found u. Of all of them urs r the best. Simple, to the point & concise. As 4 this one,i always wrote my titles in sentences the way i searched for items just like u suggest.
I can’t help but think their videos might confuse people because they don’t really know what they’re doing, lol. I was lucky enough to work directly with Google when I was at Samsung (we built a Google TV), and the things I learned from them have been so valuable. I hope this video reaches as many people as possible to help them understand how to do this-completely free!
Hi George, I love your videos. I look forward to them every week. I stopped using the software for keywords when I realised they weren’t working. Plus they all contradict each other, so how could they work. I had even tried all the wrongly spelled words in one program, thinking that must be how the 1 percenters do it 😝, of course that didn’t work either! I don’t know if I do it correctly now though, I was getting a sale a day a few months ago and then it all just pretty much stopped almost overnight. That reminds me, you said to email my shop details ages ago. I couldn’t find your email address anywhere so I replied back to one of your emails with my shop details and background, for your opinion. Obviously you’re very busy but just wondering if my email had reached you when I hit reply or if I need to email you elsewhere? Cheers and thanks again for taking the time to help us all out😊
Awesome insights, George! Thanks for another great vid. I'm definitely going to experiment with these techniques. Curious, would a Chatbot be able to add to this process to find even more likely possibilities or better to just stick with what is already indexed in Amazon and Google?
The first 30 characters of your title should directly match the image of your product. After that, ensure the rest of the title still relates to the picture. Avoid keyword stuffing in the title-save those keywords for your tags. This aligns with Etsy’s new algorithm updates.
@@EtsyMentor What about using several different spellings of T-shirt... ie: shirt, t-shirt, t shirt, tee, t-shirt, etc. Is that considered keyword stuffing?
Good stuff, George! SEO is just a piece of the pie, not the whole pie. That cannot be emphasized enough. If I may offer another thing that has helped us: common keywords to reinforce your store's niche are important. For example, if you have a one of a kind shop that specializes in canvas cooking aprons and of course all of your products fit into your brand, you need to point people your shop's direction as much as possible with SEO. So because there is a 20 character limit, you might include "canvas apron" or "cooking apron" as much as you can in your tags. Although it may seem generic, volume helps the Etsy algorithm know where you are and where to direct customer searches. My understanding is that AI now uses photos to help with that targeting as well.
That’s actually a common misconception. You only need to use the word “apron” once. Etsy combines keywords automatically, so there’s no need to include it repeatedly in separate tags. I’d recommend including “apron” in the listing title to describe the item and in one tag, but there’s no need to overuse it. As for AI, yes, their new algorithm scans the images and focuses heavily on the first 30 characters of your title. These need to align with your photo to maintain your ranking. Matching your title to your image is now more important than ever for visibility.
@@EtsyMentor I've been doing this for awhile now. I just did a private search on a keywords and 3 of my products are on the first page....but no buyers yet.
@@thebikeracer Can you tell me how to do a private search to see where you are ranking on Etsy? My experience so far, since March 2024, is only 8 sales (family and friends), no organic sales yet. I think my SEO is fairly decent. I've been practicing long tail keywords in my titles from the beginning with no results.
@@sharlawailes7149 I used a private window to search and searched a keyword. The truth is it's crazy hard to make sales. I'm up to 248 sales since 2020! I'm more focused on my Shopify store at this point even though it's a harder to get traffic. I'm doing POD. I get a lot of favorites and have a 5 Star rating on Etsy...but I don't get a lot of sales and it's not consistent. My traffic has been better lately but that could be because of the holidays. One big change I've made is adding videos and links in my product descriptions. Who knows? I'll keep trying...
Great tips, per usual! Would it make any difference if I used an incognito window to do a Google search so it doesn't try to guess what I want based upon my previous searches? I research stuff all day long and I wonder whether it might start to auto populate with some randomly weird combinations, like raccoon CFOs playing basketball in ancient Rome.
No, it shouldn’t make much of a difference since it’s based on popular searches. But now I’m curious-I kind of want to search for raccoons playing basketball in Rome, LOL!
You don’t need to fit every word into a single tag-they can be split across multiple tags. Check out this video to learn how Etsy combines tags and keywords for searches: ua-cam.com/video/A0DlYkjQUXY/v-deo.html
How to tackle the fact that you have only 20 letters including the blank space between words for an Etsy keyword? In best cases one can add a semi-long keyword, but a sentence just doesn’t fit?
Etsy combines keywords from multiple tags and your title to create long-tail keywords. They don’t need to be written as a single tag or sentence. Check out this video for a detailed explanation of how Etsy assembles keywords during searches: ua-cam.com/video/A0DlYkjQUXY/v-deo.html
I update my listings gradually, never all at once, to avoid any ranking issues. For tags related to upcoming holidays, I usually update them about two months in advance. For example, some of my listings already include Christmas tags, and once January hits, I’ll switch those to Valentine’s Day.
@@EtsyMentor Bizzarly, the notification you'd replied didn't show in my YT feed, I've noticed this a lot on comments lately on my own channel, posts suddently appearing that claimed to be 4 -5 weeks ago they were made! I think they are still testing that because "for my" still brings in a lot of clicks for me. Also, plurals. They said not to include plurals anymore, but I get hits constantly from them as well. So, I'm sticking with the data until I see otherwise.
I just want to note the video isn’t solely about adding those specific words. If you end up watching it again, pay attention to how many additional keywords the free tools (which have significantly more data than any of these programs) reveal during searches. That’s the real game-changer.
Raccoon was just an example. This video highlights all the missing keywords people are actively searching for online that these programs aren’t showing you.
