My initial impression of this series is "What if Dungeon Meshi was a horror manga". Absolutely fantastic and the scratchy art style really adds to the vibe. I've yet to read Blame! or any of the mangaka's other work but I'm really into this. That and I'm also really into the concept of megastructures and the author's approach to them. These huge, labrynthian and oddly constructed spaces are just so cool.
Always the pain of monthly manga. A year's worth of writing is over in a bit over an hour. Still, Tower Dungeon is a great one, thanks for the comment!
I am so amused by the fact that it was possible for manga enthusiasts to have such an in-depth discussion of Nihei's new manga in 2024, seemingly without knowing who the guy is. THE Tsutomu Nihei. The one who made BLAME! ! Be that as it may, you really made me want to check it out. I never thought the day would come when Nihei would get praised for his story and criticized for his art. I never even imagined he would branch out of sci-fi. His production seems to have changed quite a bit.
I am aware who he is and I tried to read BLAME! maybe a year ago and found it almost impossible to parse ANY of the art inside it, which meant I couldn't figure out any of the story or characters either, it was rough, but TD might make me go back and try again. I don't know if i can say too much about Tower Dungeon's actual STORY so far but the way that Nihei tells the story that I find so interesting and compelling. But i agree, his production and style seems to have evolved since BLAME! and since it's been 20 years since that story it's no wonder. You should check out Tower Dungeon, everyone should. High Fantasy is back.
@@weeklymangaPodcast You might have a better time with Knights Of Sidonia. It's perhaps his (currently) most approachable work; well written characters, humor, dramatic stakes. Got me hooked front to back. Nihei has the problem that he often just strings up ideas he finds cool (and which are actually cool, a lot of the time, ngl) without explaining anything. I guess, because the explanation simply doesn't exist, at least at that point in time. It's quite challenging to just accept his pictures and whatever story he wants to tell. Abara is a good example; in an essay he confesses that so much time has passed between the creation of the manga and its publication that even he doesn't really know anymore what anything in the story is supposed to mean.
Thank you for the kind words! It's tough to grow out there without much in the way of short form content. We are growing slowly and I think we will hit a tipping point soon hopefully! Tell your friends and the internet about us!
Depends on what you like! We have 2 recent recommendation videos you could check out, one for things to replace JJK and the other for things that are under-read. If you are looking for more things by this author BLAME! and Knights of Sidonia are his two largest series before this one.

🔥 Loving this. Only 11 chapters so far, damn. Any other recommendations. That ring scene had me in tears 😂
