  • We're trying to keep some of the vintage electronics out of the landfill. Many times when something stops working, it can be repaired if someone will simply take the time to attempt to repair it. This channel documents our amateur attemps at repairing vintage electronics we think are cool.
    We don't typically restore anything, we're just trying to get them working again. We've found that most of this stuff was well built and with a little help will start doing what it was intended to do.

    My dad has some old 60s Johnson CB Radios he use to use while working volunteer rescue squad in Jacksonville, NC. We plan to try and get them working. So far we have been able to find most of the vaccum tubes that were missing. Havent tried to put power to them yet. Need to get ahold of a variac to gently apply power.

      Nobody wants CBs anymore with the internet plus cell phones you talk all day for free.

      @@Thomas-yr9ln LOL. Thankfully there is a huge community that still uses and enjoys radio communication. I am a HAM KN4ROL and if SHTF (crap hits the fan) and we loose Internet and cell service (ie: weather, emp, solar storm, cyberattack) I feel good knowing I and others will still be able to communicate.

    Great stuff mate. What specs. was the loose capacitor you used for troubleshooting? I’d be interested in seeing more use of that method. Do you ever use it in pinball repair? Be just as interested in seeing using the same thing or simple jumpers to troubleshoot E/M pinballs too. Regards

    why would there be a resistor across the speaker jack? would it be to drop the wattage to the speaker?

    • @mxslick50
      @mxslick50 4 місяці тому +1

      The resistor provides a load to the output of the amplifier if the speaker is left disconnected. Some early transistor amps would blow out if run with no speaker loads connected.

      And he didn’t see if the jack socket was switched ~ that the switch “opened” with the jack plug inserted = causing the resistor to be disconnected and the signal to go across the speaker, might also explain the reason why they only have the AM radio on 1 speaker ~ the one that is wired to the unit and forms it’s lid
