As a marketed military breaching device for civilians, would have been nice to see if it could cut rebar or metal doors in a shtf scenario. almost anyone who’s into survival/shtf will have a multitool with wire cutters for barbed wire, why would they need a fancy sparkler that can’t help rescue people in the aftermath of an earthquake or bomb?
They've demonstrated rebar and chain. You could easily knock the bolts right off a door were you able to access the hinge side. You could definitely cut the lock plate off a door though.
Sometimes I remember the semi-accurate advice from Burn Notice: Why put the effort going through the existing door, which will announce your presence before you enter the room, giving the enemy time to prepare; instead make your own door.
As a firefighter, one of the most important fire types that I, along with the rest of my department, was trained to put out is "flammable metals". This type of fire is particularly dangerous and occurs more often than one might initially think. They can be dangerous because spraying water on them can cause more problems than it solves and they burn at extremely high temperatures. They most commonly occur with vehicle fires and structure fires when a vehicle is inside the structure (attached garage, barn, etc.). A lot of vehicles have magnesium cased transmissions and other parts and magnesium is used in fireworks, flares, etc. so it will happily ignite; under the right conditions. In fireworks and other pyrotechnics containing magnesium, or other flammable metals, the metal has been powdered and mixed with other compounds so it's made to light easily. For the magnesium in your vehicle to burn it's got to get hot, very hot in order to ignite, but once it goes it ain't stopping! You can tell when a car fire had successfully started burning its metal bits when you see the condition of the pavement after the fire was put out and the vehicle removed.
Yes, and class D fire extinguishers are quite pricey. I'll settle for the 5lb ABC I keep in my truck. Hopefully it'll stop it before my transmission goes ablaze...
This is great for locks that are not very susceptible to bolt cutters, like circular padlocks and cylinders, or thick U-locks. Very special purpose. For fencing, barb wire, small locks, etc. bolt cutters are far safer, easier and stealthier. Still gonna buy a few for those.
You have no idea how valid your request is. A lot of people will tell you to just get “storm proof” matches and that’s a good idea but not for starting one of these. If you could bundle 20 together it MIGHT light one of the torches. But I seriously doubt it. And if you just want to light a fire out in the rain then go with the storm proof because buying a bundle of 5 of these will set you back a pretty bundle of cash and that is if you can even find them. If you see them somewhere one day I would suggest you buy them because they will be sold out by the next day. But I have to admit they are excellent in what they were built for.
There's a difference between "the match didn't light it" and "I couldn't light it with the match". You could ignite it with some sparklers. They ignite with a lighter and burn hot enough.
I think that's the idea. It's not for giant vault doors. You can open a sth locked with chains, padlocks or cut through barbed wire (if you need to) . You don't need to bomb yourself through everything. With that you can do it quieter sometimes.
@@BigDaddyUnlimited cool, I was a commercial diver and used to burn underwater with broco rods. 10,000 F. much more fun. can burn thru solid rock. but your sparklers were still cool. don't get me wrong.
@@ChevTecGroup Most of us have a decent pair of wire cutters on our multi tools. I don't think we own these with any potential intentions of using them on barb wire. Access to door hinges, locks, etc is another story.
Imagine it's raining heavy, some douche bag has hostages in a building and you need to cut a lock to get in and rescue them. You get one match to get it right... I used to be a breacher and love the concept, but failed ignition is a big deal breaker for me. Gotta have at least a second chance capability.
Powdered aluminum mix with some Magnesium compressed probably would be my SWAG Ahh in other post response 👍🏻 it's a mix with magnesium aluminum burns at just under 5000° if I remember correctly, magnesium burns over 5000° so likely a mixture of them.
Yeah... Standing there with a bright rod tying to breach barbed wire taking all that time might not be ideal. Useful for starting fires and the likes but I could probably roll my own. Looks like it's just pressed fine mesh aluminum and magnisium.
My question is, is this a dumbed down version of the original? Because I've visited breachpens website and they self regulate who they sell to and I didn't see any practical application like burning through chains or padlocks.... Instead we got ramen.... Come on guys...
These don't do much that a set of bolt cutters or angle grinder won't do. Bolt cutters don't make you the brightest thing in the night either. Angle grinder is louder but not as bright, but will cut through a lot more
Not a viable breaching option at all for civilian use I can think of, let alone LE/Emergency Services....I can tell you LE special teams or Emergency services would not be using anything like that...We have much better efficient tools for the job. This idiot stick is time constraint restrictive...limited breaching effectiveness (a foot of dense barbwire in how long?) It compromises noise and visual stealth (big time)...useless in a confined space or combustible environment (gas leaks, fuel, dry vegetation, wood building, etc)...need specialized FR clothing/gloves...Need specialized ignition tool? The only use I can think of is if you want to burn down a forest while camping, torch a village, house, neighbor's car, an arson tool....Be a fool, waste your money,
Who is paying $130? I haven’t looked yet, i’m just responding to your comment. I paid no where near $130 for mine. If they are charging that price then you missed your window of opportunity.
Ridiculous! Make your own thermite and use firegaurd.Or hold a Roman Candle on your bolt cutter you can atleast reuse it and no paperwork to submit to protect family and you can see afterwards.

We don't want to see it's effectiveness on actual breaching. Barbed wire and an aquarium are just fine...
Great safety info though!
Hell, I want some of those matches used to start it, looks like something I could actually get a campfire going with
Try storm proof matches.... I forgot the brand but they look alike.
These matches come with the pen 🤣 there is one in the grip and they are thermite matches

so somebody made a big sparkler. I used to light a whole pack of sparklers at once and got about the same result.
Those sparklers weren't burning at over 5,000 degrees 😉

It is surprising that they don't have an ignition setup like a road flare. Seems very lacking
They come with a single match per rod, and you can buy extra matches
Not knocking the product but i'll just stick to a portable oxy acytelyn torch it seems a little safer and more dependable
wonder if they make a special
type of gloves to wear while
using that item ?
Nomex gloves would be fine
Cheap leather stick/mig welding gloves would work better then what he was wearing

It actually looks like a condensed form of thermite.....
