  • Changing the pump on a Riello Rdb Burner is quite easy to do. I changed this pump on the bench and tested the burner afterwards.
    All you need is a flat head screw driver a 12 mm spanner a 15 Spanner and a pressure guage so you can set the pump to 8 bar.

    Gerry, I traced the fault to a lack of electrical power to the burner, a wire had pulled out in the dual thermostat on the Amanda boiler. The thermostat screws are very rusted and getting at the connections is not easy. How are these thermostat units fixed to the boiler and how can they be removed/replaced? I can find nothing online about them, nor details of the Amanda boiler which I presume is obsolete... Many thanks for your great videos - very helpful!

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  5 років тому +1

      Hi Graham. Usually the burner is fine but the line is airlocked. There are a couple of ways to approach this. you can clear the line back into the the oil tank using low pressure compressed air. You will need to open the vent screw on the burner and blow the oil back into the tank. Make sure that you are not messing with the pressure screw. If you can wait I will have a video on this later in the week. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  2 роки тому

      Hi Ross. The nozzle would have a hard time with the engine oil and would clog and the air mix would suffer because of the inconsistent fuel. A different setup can burn it though but would require a different burner and compressor. Cheers Gerry

    I could kick myself. My riello burner packed up Saturday morning, I used the manufacturer troubleshoot table and googled advice and ended up changing the photocell, the nozzle, the controller and cleaned up without removing the electrodes. I had a spare pump but wasn't confident until I saw you do it. I also don't have the oil pressure gauge. Is the gauge a made up test jig or something you knocked up?
    I have to say you made a brilliant video. I just wish I had seen it 24hrs ago, my heating may have been running by now. Having to get an engineer out. Depressing.
    PS, have you done a vid showing how to change the electrode set and set them up??

    I've watched all your vidios Jerry and followed you for a long time, but you've made a big mistake with this, I know you do this for a living just like I do, but I have to say that you haven't thought about this mate, there will be hundreds of oil engineers in Ireland and England thinking the same as me if they see this, showing this to the public is fine but you've missed the most important thing, the bloody spark won't make you jump a bit, it's direct from the transformer you touch it your dead, please address this straight away you and I know this because we do it every day the public don't, you have to be so careful what you put out there Jerry, love your vidios mate but please anyone got hurt not knowing this you would never forgive your self.

      Ok, how many amps is it? It is the voltage that makes it jump the gap, but in an engine there is almost no amperage. It is the amperage that can be dangerous.

    • @slrs3908
      @slrs3908 5 років тому

      If it is coming through a transformer, doesnt the amperage go down as the volts go up? Im just askin because not all sparks are life threatening...so please explain.

    • @pearcemachineshop5200
      @pearcemachineshop5200 5 років тому

      SLRS I can’t tell you what the voltage is, but I can say many years ago when I did my training on oil boilers I was told be very carful as the voltage can easily kill.

      @@pearcemachineshop5200 Alan, you intentions are probably pure, but I am thinking of the shock you get from a gas engine ignition spark, which will certainly get your attention real fast, but probably won't hurt you unless you have a pacemaker. So, in the sense of safety, I personally would like to know just how dangerous this is...if only to satisfy my own curiosity. At the same time, where I come from, you don't openly accuse a man of negligence (the nice way of putting it) and then respond with "I don't know" when asked for details. So, do you know, or did you just throw Jerry under the bus? Please provide references. ...and I was asking about the amperage, but voltage would be interesting too.

    • @pearcemachineshop5200
      @pearcemachineshop5200 5 років тому +1

      @@slrs3908 I would have to look it up, as for Jerry I think the guys done a great job and I've no intention of throwing him under the bus so to speak his oil burners have been great and that's an understatement, I mean no offence to any one least of all Jerry, I'll see what I can find out, but I will say the guy that taught me seamed to know is stuff if you know what I mean, the transformer ups the power considerably in order to make a very big spark, kerosean if not as easy to ignight as petrol as you know, hope that helps a bit.

    Hi Gerry, wish I had watched this before stripping down my burner and replacing the fuel pump possibly unnecessarily (I did not bleed it thoroughly first). Could you help identify a suitable pressure gauge to buy? I saw someone else had asked for this before too.
    Also, in the video where you create one working burner from 3 scrap ones, towards the end, you show how to adjust the amount of air, and mention that you will demonstrate how to use this when the burner is in the boiler so that you can ensure you have a clean blue flame. I cannot find the video where you show how to do this? I am assuming there is somewhere that I can gain access to see the flame, and then adjust the screw to optimise the burn. Could you describe where I can get this view?
    Thanks for your help!

    Gerry, I have a Riello RDB burner the same.. When switch heating on at the wall it doesnt do anything not even bring fan on unless you press the reset button on burner then you get the suction sound & it fires up.. Itl only manage say 20 mins or 45 if your lucky of an on / off cycle burning then stops & doesnt come on again.. So say if you left the house at 1pm with it on and came in at 6 itl be freezing. We have to keep going outside and pressing reset every 30 minutes or so to keep heat in the radiators in the house. What would be the issue ? Is it wrong pressure ? Faulty pump? Solenoid? Checked & cleaned the photocell is ok & the burner is getting oil feed ok i think to be fair the feed flexi pipe hooks back on itself before it goes into the burner but not sure if thats an issue? Be great if you could advise then il know what part to buy and fit before this cold weather hits us .. Good man yourself 👍

Do you have any idea how to make it working on waste oil.... I found some kind of a russian burners, and here is the link how to make it ua-cam.com/video/BN6Q8YZD2II/v-deo.html and here how does it works ua-cam.com/video/a37Uz3E5sGg/v-deo.html

    Great video. On the oil pressure gauge, is the side thumb screw for bleeding and the top to allow oil through to the pressure gauge?

    My motor isn't running although when I move it a little it feels like it's trying. I've stripped the burner and there seems to be the same resistance on the pump and the motor with neither very free but easyish to turn which do you think is the problem? Or could it just be the capacitor? Note there was a bit of a screeching from it when it was running before 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Motor startup cap is bad probably.

    Hi Gerry, hope your keeping safe. I have an rdb burner and have changed pump, photocell, and had it serviced. Yet its still not running right. Solenoid is the last part I can think of is it difficult to change.
    Thanks in advance. Dan

      Hi Daniel. Really easy to change the solenoid. Just a thumbscrew and a couple of spade connectors. Check out my recent video on rebuilding a Riello burner ua-cam.com/video/dqBC6369xRg/v-deo.html Hope this helps. Cheers Gerry 👍👍

      @@danielgilroy267 Daniel. There's a rough test you can do on the solenoid to see if it is working. Take the solenoid off but leave it electrically connected and place a metal screw driver inside the hole. Power on the burner and when the solenoid gets powered it snould become magnetic. You will feel resistance when you try to move the screwdriver. If you have a meter you should get 100 Ohms
      resistancehe +/- 5 . Check for resistance with the solenoid plugged out of circuit. Hope this helps good luck Check this out bit.ly/2LIkzCD Cheers Gerry 👍

    I think I have the same issue except my burner runs for about 2 minutes stops tries to ignite again and then fails. I see oil flow and igniter trying to ignite the oil flow but it fails and resets. Could this be a faulty pump is it not providing enough kerosene
