The tow truck driver told me it had to be my starter after the failed jump start/1st gear push, with a manual, as he towed me home. I ordered a new starter and after installing it noticed I still had no crank/no start. I watched this video and was in complete disbelief that my 96 civic had this issue. I checked the oil, low oil could mean engine failure, and my fuses but everything was fine. This was the last thing I could attempt. I can't thank you enough. These types of videos are keeping me out of financial ruin!
Thanks a fucking ton bro. I was about to take mine in to a mechanic and decided to check UA-cam one more time. Paperclip worked. Car runs now. I'm super grateful for you sharing this vid and knowledge because i really can't afford a repair bill. Keep doing the lord's work, brotha!

I want to personally thank you! I was stressed for days, replaced my starter and was planning to replace my main relay, found this video and the car started right up!!!!
I filled my 99 civic ex’s tank at the gas station this week and then suddenly had a no crank/no start. Got it towed home, saw this video, and it fired up after bypassing the clutch safety switch with the paper clip. Saved me checking the starter…thanks!!
Excellent tip! My reliable 98 civic 5 speed suddenly had no start no crank. I knew it wasn't the starter. I had a little length of 18 guage wire in the trunk,, stripped the ends, jabbed it in the yellow clip and she started right up. Thank you! Great vid! Never would have guessed this on my own.
This video just saved my life lol. I bought a 99 hatchback and its been rigged. The wiring was cut and there was a straight wire from the ignition to the starter. The wire was run across the engine bay and through the fuel filter before going to the starter. It was a hazard waiting to happen. Any how I pulled a new ignition harness from the junk yard today and when I went to start the car it wouldn't do anything. I checked for voltage, with my 9 year old daughters help, and was getting power all the way to the starter. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't starting. I watched your video and low and behold they had bypassed the clutch completely. I did your little trick with a paper clip and it starts. Thank you!!!!
Bro you are a life saver …. My Civic had the exact same problem and I did the same exact thing … I watched a bunch of other UA-cam videos and came upon your video (thankgod) and tried the paper clip and now my civic that been sitting for a week is now up and running … thank you sir 🙏🏼
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. =D This vid solved my problem straightaway; I was stuck in the parking lot of my local sub shop, when I started investigating online. Found your vid, got up under the dash with a paperclip I happened to have handy, and the car started RIGHT up. Cheers, m'man!
I did not even think about the clutch just figured. It was the starter so replaced it just like you and nothing happened. Unplug that switch and use the piece of speaker wire to jump it and started right-up. Thank you so much.
@AldenBuild I'm 40 yrs old still love my 90s Hondas haha had alot of starters go out in my time in different makes and models but never this clutch issue. Always same symptoms always the starter hence me buying a starter (for no reason now except preventative maintenance I guess?).😁 but yes u came thru clutch much thanks brotha
AWESOME vid....i figured the clutch switch on my car years ago, but recently car wouldnt crank and knew everything's good, i have forgot about the clutch switch and ur vid reminded me bout it! Thanks!
You just made my day came to get a tire changed on my Harley and when i went back to my car It did exactly that .. I used the ring that holds my alarm on and started ride up 😂… just saved me a tow and headache … thank you for posting this 👍🏽
test the starter= undo small lead in(on starter)...connect a jumper wire to small lead, then hit big lead on starter or direct to + on battery itself with other end of jumper wire (I used a wire from my cheap voltmeter). If starter cranks over then it is (edit-Probably) one of the two "middlemen" start relay, or clutch switch. (edit- but also check starter fuse!(this should be second to look at after starter)) then there is possibility that it is also fault on ignition switch itself also!
Smart move. I bought and installed the starter $140 (1993 Honda Civic) and it still didn't work. Then this video and a paper clip and I'm back on the road
Loved the bro daps when it started. This might be my issue as well, though I'm maybe too fat and having trouble fitting my hand up there to grab the sensor plug.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Currently experiencing a no crank no start on my '99. I load tested battery. Battery good. Although the starter in it is quite old, I don't suspect failure. I'm gonna try the clutch safety switch bypass before tossing a new starter in. Thanks mate!
@@AldenBuild Well..... Sadly it didn't work. I thought it would. I bench tested the started and it DID operate. However I suspect possibly a faulty solonoid. Since I know my battery is good and the clutch switch is good so I suspect a failing starter. It did, however try to start for like 1 second (starter engaging). So off to the parts store

i bought a 96 lx recently and it turned on fine no problems one day i tried starting it it didnt want to at all not even lights when i the turned the key the next day i tried turning it on again and i heard something trying to start or some noise on the passenger side near the glove area and not the car doesn’t want to start tried jumping it and still no lights or anything the emergencys turned on but nothing else
interesting, i do know that the ‘main relay’ is where you described that noise. maybe try looking into that and see if that’s the possible problem, good luck!
i’m sorry, i have no experience with the automatics of these cars. I’d say try the first things i did then maybe some forums will have an answer. I wish you luck!
@@AldenBuild I feel like it might be my thermostat housing ground or one of the wires that runs from the thermostat housing and connects somewhere else directly off the same wires connected to the thermostat housing
It was the thermostat housing ground it needed to be replaced. My car starts up now no problems at all so far so for anyone experiencing issues check your thermostat housing ground. If that doesnt work check your starter solenoid ground that also could be your problem. Check those 2 grounds before checking everything else
i honestly don’t know, i’d for sure check things like the battery’s cranking amps, the starter and its wires are good. maybe even main relay or something
I didn’t replace it. By sticking the paper clip in both ends, it bypasses it so you don’t have to replace it, plus not having to push clutch in to start
