Hey Joel, Thanks for the Manta-ray, I downloaded it and printed it for my wife who is a cashier for a supermarket here in Huntsville, Alabama, I print some other head gear for are local hospitals till the company got their injection molds up and running, she like your design because its works with out a strap, great job on your channel and keep up the good work
Somehow I feel like I am participating in a modern choose your own adventure..... we need more of these type videos :)
You got it!
Prusa: we force all parts to the build surface. No stacking allowed.
3DPN: hold my [beer]
BAM! Originally this was what I thought, but then, I figured it out :)
I must credit prusa though on a software that someone who has never been near a printer before can pick up in minutes aka me.
But saying that I haven't used any other slicer so cant speak for them, they may be even easier
@@3DPrintingNerd I can't get it to stop snapping to the build plate. Which is the step that allows it to work?
Ah, I wasn't adding the second model as a part of the first.
0:28 "Uhh, CTRL+Z... yes!" a sentiment shared by all long-time Prusa Slicer users :P
Except it doesn't work in textboxes... e.g. gcode entries.
Thank you so much! I have been working with a group printing face shields in my area and we have not been able to nail down stacked prints. I had no clue how to move forward from that error message in prusa slicer and was trying to figure out how to add something just like this!
Yay, we can actually 3D model in PrusaSlicer..adding elements for combining into a new model as well as quantity production, Thank you!
The speed stack prints that Prusa Research made used tiny spheres embedded between the parts to create the nonempty layers, but these are there to give the perimeters of the bottom layer something to grab onto. It works great unless the support posts detach mid-print, which has happened often enough that I might print with a brim or mouse ears.
OMG... so useful!! The most critical part.. is do the "add part" I'd just copy and paste cuz that is familiar.. Not doing that critical step.. it will never float in mid-air
When I raise mine, it always falls right back to the build plate. Is there a setting? edit nevermind. Need to add part load. (Helps if I follow instructions).
hahaha. Yeah, once you do "load part" it works. Believe me, I was frustrated too!
What about adding a gap which is not exactly one layer height? like 0.15mm with 0.25mm layers? it would help to improve adhesion and lower surface appearance for more complex parts
Hey, if you change from print settings --> support material --> "XY separation between an object and its support" setting to 100% you can remove the weird support blobs.
Thanks for the tip!
Does not appear to work for me. it creates the support for the support enforcer but still pops the "empty layers error"
OK appears its a problem with the 2.1.1 version I was using. updated to 2.3 and it does not give the error any longer.
Thank you for this video, because of you I was able to print many face sheilds
Aww, I was hoping to see some complicated scaffolding like I've been doing with my resin prints lately to get significantly different parts printed on top of the other joined only by supports. It's a real trick to see on your screen like building a miniature Eiffel tower in resin supports. =)
In Prusa Slicer 2.3 when you add the part it doesn't place it in the same place (which is probably more user friendly). So you have to set the position to 0,0,0 manually for all parts you add, then change the z-value like in this video.
Also, it just warns you about empty layers now, so no need for a small support enforcer! Nice. :)
Would this one-layer gap between objects cause adhesion problems and lead to mis-prints?
I did it with something I designed that is thin via the z axis view and it was hard to separate. My guess is it is because it is thin via z axis view. If it was thicker, it would be easier to take apart?
Found that you can't really print 0.30mm with a 0.40mm extruder, you just and up with either a bonded layer or one that's too far away. 0.20mm layer heights work just fine :-) but not being able to print in 0.30mm really takes much more time. I'll have to stick to Simplify3D where i can choose stop and start layer heights so i can print with 0.30mm layer heights. I just really like Prusa Slicers movements much better, seems much better controlled and slices the models much nicer (noticeably smoother curves). Printing on a Duplicator i3 v2 which is "equivalent" to a i3 MK3, after tons of custom mods and parts I designed myself lol.
I"m attempting to to stack objects printing with Cheetah TPU on my MK3s. The piece is similar in size & shape to a thin wrist bracelet. When the second item starts to print, I think beacause the TPU is flexible, the TPU is not fusing together and becomes individual strands.
Is it possible to stack objects printing with TPU?
Very helpful! Thanks for that.
How many layers can or is recommended 8, 10 of ? I have the cr-10s
Joel, my face shield model that is accepted here in Toledo isn't completely flat like yours. Any idea if the support enforcer will cover that larger gap between prints where the legs of the frame are? It looks a lot your your manta, except it has a higher part in the front where the clear plastic goes.
If it isn't completely flat on the top and bottom, this method will not work. The printer will be printing into open are at some points, probably just making a mess.
Conceptually, how does this work with the gap? I see how two are not stuck together because there is no compression on the first copy, but the next new copy is also "in air" What makes it begin to form a solid new part?
Why .25 layer not .2?
What is the limit on layer height?
What about a .6 nozzle? If I am limited to a .25 layer, not sure if bigger nozzle makes a difference.
are we there yet?
The part you print is like a "raft" for the part above it. This is how a raft works by printing a tiny gap between the raft it creates and the part it prints. we are just doing it for a custom shape and over and over again.
mine doesn't allow to lit it snaps it back to plate?
Thanks a lot Joel!
I love your videos!
Oooooohhhhh, so that’s how you do it.... thanks!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey, joel. I tried your settings (0.25 layer highth and first layer) as well as added the support enforcer with .25 spacing between parts but I still get the same error message for the empty layer. any Idea. I'm using the design from the Swedish designer. (the other popular design other than Prusa).
Hmmm. It *should* work. That’s strange. Same as how I’m doing it?
@@3DPrintingNerd I am having the same problem. Followed your steps and then sliced and still getting an empty layer issue. Is there something about your support settings that we need to know?
Did you select "For support enforcer only" under supports?
Can You use prusa slicer on CR10 s5?
Perfect!! thank you so much you help me a lot!!!!!!
Great voice for video
My version of Pruser Slicer 2.2.0 Still complains about empty layers even with the support enforcer.
Did you put it in the model?
Hmm, that's weird. You added the support and everything?
I'm having the same problem as well. are you using the one by the Swedish designer? I believe it the other popular one floating around other than prusas.
To those having a problem using this suggestion with 2.2.0 of PrusaSlicer, I figured out a way around it. Just pull your support enforcer cylinder closer to the edge of the part your trying this with. I noticed when I moved it from the center of a perimeter feature to near the edge of my stacked parts (ear savers), for whatever reason, then PrusaSlicer would see it. It builds a small support lattice outside the part perimeter near my cylinder, but it sliced and exported fine from there. Hope this helps others that may be stuck.
I HATE that the slicer will not let me move it up it locks it no matter what I do and drops it to bed, annoying as hell. WHY do they have to make slicers SO damn difficult to use and not easy seems like you need trig to do anything.
thanks!
Very informative
Great video
Thanks for sharing :-)
thanks Joel
Thank YOU!
Is there a special setting for this? Whenever I move up in z the program drops it to the bed. I cant make it stay up.
Same here. Anyone?
Sounds like you are not adding as a seperate part. You can't copy it and paste it. You need to actually load another item.
