Hi Peter, my dad is a coffee roaster so I might be able to provide some insight! You’re right, roast does affect taste! The coffee beans are roasted for different lengths of time and at different temperatures to create a light, medium or darker roast. Coffee beans also have different taste notes depending on where the coffee beans are grown. For example a coffee bean could have natural undertones of cinnamon, cherry, chocolate, etc. depending on where the coffee is grown, when it is grown and how it is roasted😊

It’s nice to finally get to sit down and listen to a Peter vlog. I’ve been very busy trying to help my husband at home but this morning he had to go to the hospital, he got bit by a spider and has a severely infected leg. I’m worried about it but I know he’s in a good place getting the help he needs. Your vlogs are always a go to in stressful situations. So thank you for these 💙

I don't understand. What were people saying? I drink coffee every day. It all made sense to me. Roast describes how they roast the beans. And a dark roast has a more full bodied flavor whereas lighter roasts like veranda blend as you mentioned, have a lighter brighter flavor. How does that not make sense to anyone else?

With all due respect to your hair colorist ex, I've been one for decades and I hear warm and I think gold, never, ever thought red! Red is red, " warm" indicates gold tones. Red has warmth/is warm but it's not the first thing I'd think if someone told me what you said you wanted. 🤨 That said I never colored any client's hair without showing them swatch samples first. Warm brown is gold/brown, not burgundy. In fact burgundy is actually cooler due to it having blue in the purple tones in it. But I'm such a color nerd that I am kinda obsessed about that even more than I am about coffee roasts, and I'm a straight up coffee snob 😂
My legs shake a lot too when I am sleeping, well, they used to until I talked to my doctor and she gave me Vitamin K. Perhaps this is something that can help you too. I'm not sure if you can get it over the counter. I've never looked, to be honest. Now my legs don't shake at night any longer. Just a bit of friendly advice. I hope it helps.

I thought it was for how long the bean had been roasted for. Do a light roast would be a weaker bean, therefore, a weaker coffee!
Kauai that you had mentioned on one of your videos I had bought the decaf version of it and it's absolutely positively the most delicious coffee I have tasted no bitter aftertaste delicious smooth and can't get enough of it as far as roast yes it has something to do with it I prefer a light to medium roast it doesn't taste as bitter

Ive done coffee tastings before and i think what you’re saying is partially true! Roast absolutely would affect the flavor. You can take a coffee bean and roast it to different levels which will bring out different tasting notes. It sounds like part of what you’re also talking about is the body. Is it more full bodied or light bodied? The other aspect is the acidity which also affects taste. Example- If a coffee bean has tasting notes of a granny smith apple it means its pretty acidic. you can technically make espresso out of any roast of coffee. Its harder though to make an espresso with lighter roasts so yes espresso usually is made with a medium/darker roast! James Hoffman has a youtube channel for all things coffee and its very educational!!

Now Starbucks BLONDE roast is their light roast and you’d want that to put some pep in your stepppp aka “strong coffee” to alot of ppl. So, is roast to do with the depth of flavour? Dark roast is full bodied, strong taste of coffee, but less caffeine and light roast is more caffeine but lighter in flavour?

I’ve worked in coffee for five years and I don’t think humans will ever agree on the “correct” information about it. Can’t say I’d trust someone from Starbucks to tell me anything accurate though
