The Genus of all these ornamental photosynthetic aquarium clams is Tridacna, the ones in the aquarium are species: Maxima or Crocea. Both are rock dwelling clams. The photo of the diver is the species Gigas. The largest Tridacna & a sand dweller. You can get a 6” gigas clam for your moms tank and it will be very rewarding to grow it to 12-18” in the next couple years. Just keep an eye out for Pyramid snails. Tiny white predatory snails that live at the bysal /base of the clam. Cool video!
What you have is likely Derasa Clam from some digging I did, and they can get roughly 20 inches. As for the picture Tridacna Gigas aka Giant Clams found in the wild are regulated by the endangered species act.
We call the big wild clams bénitier in my country, they are delicious. Bénitier is the french word for stoup (the bowl containing holy water at entreance of a catholic church) because that's what the missionnaries who evangelized natives used the shells for.
You should get a tile for your clams to adhere themselves too so they don't attach to the glass, they are near impossible to get off and it always stresses them to move them and the tile fixes both of those things:) awesome clams
Good luck to you if it's the same species as the clam in the photo that thing could gobble up a small child could not imagine the size of the tank to house it . I wonder what color the pearls would be the blue looks so sick .
Yeah I've seen a bunch of huge ones in diving videos. They're cool, but none that I've seen have been pretty, at least not in the way the small ones are
No it is not the same species! The one in the picture is a Tridacna Gigas that can reach 1 meter long, The one in your local gym is a Tridacna crocea don't grow over 15cm, and the one in your mom's tanks is a Tridacna maxima the grows at maximum of 30cm.

This was really informative, thank you!
that's some pretty neat information
Really? Nice to know 😊
Woah what an explanation thanks
That purple blue clam, the first one is beautiful!!
I didn't learn something but clams can get absolutely massive and it's so fascinating. That in itself deserves a like
🌸 No, I did not know clams could get that big. I learn something new every day. Thank you. Love your videos 🌸
It’s just a tiny diver. Not a big clam. 😇
The largest giant clam (Tridacna gigas) ever recorded grew to a width of 54 inches and likely weighed about 550 pounds.
Wow! Your mom has a nice clam!
Oh!!! That was staring me in the face and I did not think of it! 🤣 LMAO 😂😂😂

Nothing like a pretty clam
Under rated UA-camr
It would probably take many MANY years for it to get that big- also maybe you should get one for your own thank,I bet it would look nice
Good luck to you if it's the same species as the clam in the photo that thing could gobble up a small child could not imagine the size of the tank to house it .

Holy crap that's huge
I’ve seen so big ones in the Red Sea! They are so beautiful
I think photosynthetic clams are one larger classification of clam so technically yes and no, probably a different subspecies just based of size
me playing animal crossing: GIGA CLAM
The one in the pic can be found in waters off Samoa
Clamdestined
Went snorkeling in Taiwan, tons of clams that are this size
Everything reminds me of her 😩
What you have is a maxima/crocea. The big one is T. Gigas.
If that giant has a pearl, it will be worth a tonne of money 😮
I’m just imagining getting chomped on by the gigas clam
Just wait until they get big enough that god gives them little feet so they can walk around. ((I tip my hat to anyone who understands the reference))
They're called Giant Clams and yes they exist. I've done close to 5,500 dives and have always seen a biggie like this
Can't believe your gym put a clam in a biocube 😂 or the fact it's still alive.
Yes clam that you have given 50 years can get as big as that clam in the ocean.
What happened to your palm? Lile just below the fingers?
Yeah I've seen a bunch of huge ones in diving videos. They're cool, but none that I've seen have been pretty, at least not in the way the small ones are
thats a giant clam, u dont have one,
(i think*)
and that looks well over a hundred years old*
Dont compare a hand to your mom’s clam. It isn’t right bro 😂😂
The giant one is a Tridacna gigas
Tell your mom I said she’s got a nice clam 👌🏼
Get a blue tang fish
I googled... they get up to 4 feet and 500 pounds 😮
Your mums clam is a sight to behold. You should get it along with some tang from her.
Can I eat it?
That would be an expensive snack lol
They sure as hell look the same
Fine I'll guess.
Duh..they are called giant clams.
