I could not possibly agree more. Jamerson's rhythmic and melodic sensibilities can bring me to tears of joy and gratitude that ANYONE could play the bass with that much love. Another couple of songs, among hundreds, are It's A Shame by The Spinners, and For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder. There truly have been and are thousands of great bass players in this world, but James Jamerson _ well..........
Anyone who love’s music should be able to appreciate how wonderful this is. If you’re a musician, hopefully you can see how insanely brilliant this is. Bach- bebop- motown all in a fee minutes- while lying on his back! Just magic. Great job. Th.
Some think amazing Bass Lines such as this are a no-no in today's music industry. I say we need more of it. As a music aficionado it is the musicians ( through many years of honing their skills ) performing their craft masterfully that keeps me going out to concerts just to enjoy them stray away from studio recording mode. I certainly would 've loved watching Jamerson playing a live version of this track on one finger. Thank you for posting this🙏🏽, dude you're really good I absolutely enjoyed it. Had to watch it 3x. 👍🏾
Wow! This is great. Thank you for sharing and for the tab. I’m a guitarist and I’ve been obsessed with this bass line for years. It’s one of the greatest bass performances ever, imho.
Phenomenal Bassline! Heck! I grew up in Motown in the 50s and the 60s and have just now discovered this song and its amazing bassline! YOU NAILED IT! Brilliant execution and Bass tone;-)
LOL, and of course, 3 people didn't like this. That was beautiful, Jerry. I LOVE the Motown basslines no matter who is playing them. They make the bass shine as an instrument. Anyone who says bass is easy should watch this video.
that's not really the way to look at it. the dude was a jazz cat, so he was just improvising to the chord changes, rather than thinking of making 'parts'.
I want you bass world to know once and for all that when you hear the word 'bass line' this is the man it came from. It was Jamerson who transformed a 'riff' into a 'line', that is, perhaps due to his jazz roots made the bass interesting over a series of bars in a story like 'line' as different to what was played then. As a matter of fact this is still what is played now and wrongly called bass lines, a figure comprised of one or two bars played again and again IS NOT A BASS LINE. These a are riffs having only 'instant' vertical interest as opposed to horizontal one.
That's why he's Jameson. That's sick to think one finger strumming a complex and nuanced line such as this. There's also a pocket presence in his style I've not heard from any cover bassist. No offense to this one. A fine example rendition.
awesome stuff, thanks, it has helped me learn this song. my only critique (and this is super nit picking) is that the note lengths aren't always matching. there are some notes you play a little too staccato vs the original IMO, now that I'm practicing with just the original track it's noticeable. the pickup from measure 27 into measure 28 for example
Great playing.. I want to improve my chops but I don't read music or tabs which I know holds me back some. I'm 36.. suggestions on where I should start? ✌️
Thanks for your feedback. My main goal is usually to make the bass as audible as possible for the sake of the viewer. It's easier to learn that way. Thanks for watching.
Whenever I hear this bassline, I feel like this world isn't completely awful.

I heard that! That baseline hits you where you live!!
Jameson played this with one finger ..dude was seriously talented
dude seriously practiced*
John McEnroe used a Dunlop
Great job on that James Jamerson baseline......one of the prettiest ever....
Foam damp! That fast decay is a must.
It’s part of why Jamerson played so busy.
Followed along the first 15 bars or so and then just had to sit back and listen to the unreal flow of Jamesons playing
Yes - the flow is at the core of his genius. The dude's playing can bring me to tears.
imagine just improvising this, makes you lose your shit knowing how bad you are at playing, fk man
Yeah I have a comment, criticism, suggestion, request: Why the hell are the Jackson 5 bass lines so awesome?!
This man is playing on expert difficulty, and he makes it so smooth and groovy. Keep it up!
easy song?
@@thotheface Very difficult to play with one finger like Jamerson, much easier with two fingers like in this video. Still difficult.

It was “ WHAT’S GOING ON” that James Jameson laid on his back and played not “Darling Dear”.
WOW You play it better than me. And I did it justice. My hats off to you. FANTASTIC!
You totally nailed it. This ones a tough one to get down and has blighted me for years. You done a great job of it. Couldn't be better. Well done.
Bravo! My favorite song by J5. You nailed it. Applause 👏!

Thanks, Jerry. Very nicely done! 👏👏👏
You totally nailed it. Well done
Fantastic! Thanks so much! Probably my favorite Jamerson song not from the What's Going On album.
bro absolutely killed it, good job
That Aerodyne sounds sweet, I want one🤩
Are their any repeating parts in here or no? Like wtf, pure genius.

jammerson was from another world my fav
dude ... fantastic job.
The body of your fender looks so close to my Ibanez Roadstar II and sounds even better...
every line has a life on its own.. ready to learn this so bad
Thank you so much for this man 😢
Amazing job on this
Bass line sends chills down your spine its so damn incredible
Please play the bassline for 'To Know' by the J5. That bassline is AWESOME!! The song is on UA-cam also.
I like the way you move your fingers

thanks man alot
Wonderful!

@Fusilli Jerry, is the name a reference to that one Seinfeld episode?
Great!!! :D
Hi! What Fender model is your bass?
ThNK YOU
Fender Aerodyne. Thanks for watching.
Great playing.. I want to improve my chops but I don't read music or tabs which I know holds me back some. I'm 36.. suggestions on where I should start? ✌️
I’d suggest getting sheet music of bass lines, especially walking bass lines, and transcribing them into tabs. That’s how I learned, many years ago.
What is the EQ for the bass and amp?
What model Fender are you using? And is it short-scale or standard 34" scale?
Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass. Standard scale.
Great work. My only advice is is you’re trying to capture his tone, need to mute the strings more.
Thanks for your feedback. My main goal is usually to make the bass as audible as possible for the sake of the viewer. It's easier to learn that way. Thanks for watching.
What kind of Fender are you playing here? Thanks
Looks like a Fender Aerodyne jazz bass
what kind of style is this bass line? It looks very like ``semiquaver`` style :V
Fusilli Jerry hahahaha
La letra es muy buena pero el bajo también sobresale en está canción del pequeño MJ
But you're cheating, you're using more than your index finger ;)
It was a funny comment I don’t think it was offensive 😂
Because you're silly.
Romans 10:9
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
