Awesome video. I just trying to dig my new sprinkler system and this is the only video that talk about it. I did everything by my self but now, seens that have something like pipes and I just can't dig enough.. some advice?
One thing to think about is the depth of the funny pipe in regards to if you plan to aerate in the future. Other than that nice job! 👍🏼. Looks like a great spot to put a head for when the kids are sitting in the lawn chairs and you sneak away to turn on the irrigation system 😁
Thanks for your video. I once had to make a quick video of the noise a worn out wheel bearing makes, and that's right when the neighbor's yard guy started his leaf blower. Unlucky timing. Had to do the video again later.
Very helpful tips one other way I layed the piping was I used the edging tool like you used and made a single wedge and prying up the sod very slightly then tuck in the funny pipe or pvc I do both then mash the sod/soil back together leaving only a thin seam. Thanks for sharing I wanted to share one of my tricks too😁😁👍👍
Helpful video, but rocks to hold the Riser in position? I placed pieces of rubber between the rocks and the Risers to hold them where I wanted them before replacing the dirt and sod. Because I don't know if the vibration I saw in the uncovered Riser while checking for a leak could cause the rocks to wear holes in the Riser. Also, in a pinch very hot water can be used to soften the funny pipe, it just takes longer ......
I couldn’t see the connection to the old funny pipe. If I have a white main pipe with a short funny pipe connected to it and the old sprinkler I’m removing, would I unscrew the connection to the white main pipe and screw a new right angle piece to connect the new funny pipe, or would I just cut off and remove the existing funny pipe off the connector to add the new pipe to the old connection, or would I just cut the old funny pipe midway and just use a piece to join the old funny pipe with the new funny pipe and not mess with the connection to the white pvc main line?
lol, it took me a while to figure out what your little son was saying, hilarious! The camera lady or camera guy was sort of naked and only had underwear on. Adorable.
If I want to add maybe a couple more sprinkler heads but I have no access to the pvc pipe, would it be functional to use funny pipe for it? Long story short: A company that I paid to extend my driveway screwed up zone 1 (THEY DIDN'T CAP IT! BELIEVE OR NOT!) So an area of my yard died because we can't use zone 1 anymore because we don't feel like it is safe to see water gushing out in the driveway between 2 cement plates. I want to tap on another zone to cover it... but with funny pine and 2 more heads? Yay or Nay?
That really depends on a few things. For starters, how many heads do you already have in that particular Zone you want to tap off of? With each additional head, you are compromising the overall PSI per spray head, which may affect distance throw. Do you have good or poor water pressure? What is the diameter of the current pipe or hosing that you are using? That also will impact things.
Did you originally put in the system yourself or did you have it installed and now you just do the maintenance on it? I was thinking about possibly a system down the road, but I've got an acre yard, and don't think I'd be able to put everything in myself to start with.
Unless you have experience with installing the equipment for an irrigation system, I strongly suggest you hire somebody to do the initial install. I have been learning how to do my own maintenance. I'm not going to pay somebody $300 just to put in a riser for a sprinkler head or to replace a damaged sprinkler head. With the wealth of knowledge on UA-cam, it's easy to learn and you will enjoy doing the maintenance yourself and save a ton of money
One reason to to bury the line deeper than you did is so it doesn't ever get damaged in the future if somebody runs an aerator over that spot, pulling 3-4" plugs out of the dirt.
How much grass/dirt do you put around the sprinkler head? Can you show us what your other sprinkler heads look like in the lawn? I never noticed them in your other videos...
It’s like you read my mind. I’ve gotta move a sprinkler soon too. Thanks for the video man! What other projects you got coming up that I need to do too? :P
GD What editing software do you use? Is it possible to do a voice over and cutting out the sound the camera is picking up, especially during a time lapse Great info though
I usually don't aerate and that area has all the rocks in there so not really an issue. the lines are deeper than client lawns we aerated though lol some you could see!
I don't recommend heating the funny pipe, and that's quite a run for funny pipe... Also I think putting the head by the blue pot would have been a better location for head to head coverage. Good job though.
I am a 43 year veteran of this profession. NEVER run funny-flex-pipe more than 24"-30" max. Not only is it manufacturers standards it is also very good service common sense. If you do not understand the service part, you are not a professional.
Funny pipe is a flexible tubing that is now used. It can take more abuse and last longer than PVC, and you can use a pipe puller instead of digging a ditch on the initial installation.
@@GrassDaddy you installed your system yourself? I binged watched your videos from the beginning and can't recall seeing anything about the sprinkler system
Bro I think he was just commenting on the irony that the mowing started as soon as he started filming. Grass daddy has a stealth reel mower so yes no one is annoyed by his silent mowing.
you have beautiful daughter and son. nice family you got there. best of luck for you all
Love watching these videos because I am a father of three and try to keep a nice lawn. Always an adventure! Keep it up!
I've got a couple that need moving in my yard and i've been putting it off for a year. Thanks for the motivation, I needed it!
A little trickier with the PVC lines I installed 30 years ago, but it can be done as well - just a little more digging.
I've found that if I put a plastic lawn bag down to collect the dirt from my hole it is much easier to clean up after I've installed the head.
Good idea! Then you can move it to fill in the spot where you took it from.
miss this guy
Me too
Thank you for this video. You make it look so easy that I feel I can get starter on my project this week end.
How do you connect the flex line to the current PVC pipe? I need to move a sprinkler and didn't hear you cover this.
I need to move a few sprinklers this weekend. Very helpful video!

mmacejko929
i was thinking this also
Great point!
That and frost line. 12" should be ok
I’m worried about aerating too at this depth cuz my pet fence is that deep and every so often goes deep enough to be a problem
Thinking about extending my patio and i have sprinklers in the backyard...so we are going to have to reroute the lines in order to extend....
@grass daddy, where did you get that little torch? ? And there is no concern you would melt the Pipe?
Thanks for your video. I once had to make a quick video of the noise a worn out wheel bearing makes, and that's right when the neighbor's yard guy started his leaf blower. Unlucky timing. Had to do the video again later.
Can swing pipe be used instead for such long distances instead of the flex pipe? Thank you.

The little one was priceless

Well that's a nice shot of the back of our head
“Well sort of naked you have underwear on...” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know it cracks me up what they do when I'm not there
Great video. You gave me an idea and now to execute. lol
I did the same exact thing this past weekend
very helpful. I've seen a lot of these. This was the easiest to deal with and learn from
Thanks for watching!
You need Better camera angles! otherwise it was good.

Hows that pipe working for you? I am planning to install and deciding if need to buy PVC or this pipe will work out well in all weather. I am in TN.
lol, it took me a while to figure out what your little son was saying, hilarious! The camera lady or camera guy was sort of naked and only had underwear on. Adorable.
They like to get dirty lol
It needs to be deeper to avoid being pierced by the aerator every Fall.

I did my whole system with Sch 40 PVC. Have had more than a few breaks. Think I am going to use your setup for my future repairs.
Your kids make your videos the best. Did you install your irrigation system initially?
No I had it installed professionally. They had to do the plumbing and they did it in two hours with a pipe puller. I would have taken a week lol
How much did it run you to have it done professionally??
I was just literally thinking about doing this project in my yard!! Thx for some guidance!!
You make it look so easy!...thx

True!
Buzz-Duh and all the hoses? He barely had them down 2 inches
Good Job thanks!
How much grass/dirt do you put around the sprinkler head? Can you show us what your other sprinkler heads look like in the lawn? I never noticed them in your other videos...
The grass will grow around them so they arent visible. That is why I put them on and flag them to find them ;)
FYI the funny pipe is threaded on to the elbow connector. It's not a straight ribbed fitting.
Great job, thanks for the video!!!
Adjust the left stop with the water off.
Very nice
thanks!
You never checked for s leak before re burying it
Wonder what part of the country this is in
It’s like you read my mind. I’ve gotta move a sprinkler soon too. Thanks for the video man! What other projects you got coming up that I need to do too? :P
Slit and stuff .... This project would take me about 10 minutes.
Lol @7:20
Interesting.. used to old white pipr and glue.
This Resists crush and fracture better?
Yeah it's more flexible. You can still cut it if you hit it hard with a shovel but it will flex more before hitting the breaking point.
Grass Daddy was thinking about near the street and edges where vehicles could run em over.
I have a bunch destroyed because of this.
At least your neighbor mows. it's been 3 weeks since my neighbor's last mowed.
Joshua Fausnaught haha
Haha right?
Isn't there a limit to how far you can go using funny pipe?😊
GD What editing software do you use? Is it possible to do a voice over and cutting out the sound the camera is picking up, especially during a time lapse Great info though
I did do that but I think I forgot to quiet down the track the background mower was on
Man that line is shallow. That was no 6” on that run. I’d be super sketchy about aerating over that line.
I usually don't aerate and that area has all the rocks in there so not really an issue. the lines are deeper than client lawns we aerated though lol some you could see!

Uncle Buck how do you get it on/off without hearing it? I haven't been able to
I've never seen funny pipe other than 1/2". I only use rainbird for the most part.
Are you not talking about poly pipe? I could see heating poly.
I usually just twist and push, I use rainbird funny pipe though.
Those connectors have a thread (the ones I use), so you just twist them on and off with a little pressure.
6" deep enough for frost line?
Ninja Master I am not sure but I blow the lines out each year
Grass Daddy I'd be concerned. If at some point you're not around to do that or the next owner. Burst pipes.
Moon Pie I read specs that 8 to 12" for funny pipe.
I would worry about any plastic elbows as they could crack.
But I only have 2 helpers not three...:)

I can’t see what you are doing to connect the line!
What the hell is funny pipe, I thought sprinkler systems were PVC
Funny pipe is a flexible tubing that is now used. It can take more abuse and last longer than PVC, and you can use a pipe puller instead of digging a ditch on the initial installation.
@@GrassDaddy you installed your system yourself? I binged watched your videos from the beginning and can't recall seeing anything about the sprinkler system
I wish this video was more helpful but the connection to the new line and moving the existing head was not caught on camera.
You can scare the old funny pipe with razor knife little heat pops right off
I’m sure your mowing doesn’t annoy anyone
AJ E doesn't annoy me when others mow ;)
Bro I think he was just commenting on the irony that the mowing started as soon as he started filming. Grass daddy has a stealth reel mower so yes no one is annoyed by his silent mowing.
Baaahahaha goodn!
Exactly. He mows Everytime I'm out doing a video. He is 90 and so it takes many small trips for him to do the yard.
Why do U always use ur left foot for everything and ur right handed
It's not easy lol
