    Today's Catholic Mass Readings & Gospel Reflection - Thursday, June 27, 2024
    Reading 1: 2 Kgs 24:8-17
    Resp: Ps 79:1b-2, 3-5, 8, 9
    Gospel: Matthew 7:21-29
Thursday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time
    Lectionary: 374
    Reading 1: 2 Kgs 24:8-17
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan, from Jerusalem. And he did evil before the Lord, in accord with all that his father had done.
At that time, the servants of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, ascended against Jerusalem. And the city was encircled with fortifications. And Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, went to the city, with his servants, so that he might fight against it. And Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his leaders, and his eunuchs. And the king of Babylon received him, in the eighth year of his reign. And he took from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the house of the king. And he cut up all the gold vessels which Solomon, the king of Israel, had made for the temple of the Lord, in accord with the word of the Lord. And he carried away all of Jerusalem, and all the leaders, and all the strong men of the army, ten thousand, into captivity, with every artisan and craftsman. And no one was left behind, except the poor among the people of the land. Also, he carried away Jehoiachin into Babylon, and the mother of the king, and the wives of the king, and his eunuchs. And he led into captivity the judges of the land, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the robust men, seven thousand, and the artisans and craftsman, one thousand: all who were strong men and fit for war. And the king of Babylon led them away as captives, into Babylon. And he appointed Mattaniah, his uncle, in his place. And he imposed the name Zedekiah upon him.
    Responsorial Psalm: Ps 79:1b-2, 3-5, 8, 9
    R. (9) For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled thy holy temple: they have made Jerusalem as a place to keep fruit. They have given the dead bodies of thy servants to be meat for the fowls of the air: the flesh of thy saints for the beasts of the earth.
    R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
They have poured out their blood as water, round about Jerusalem and there was none to bury them. We are become a reproach to our neighbours: a scorn and derision to them that are round about us. How long, O Lord, wilt thou be angry for ever: shall thy zeal be kindled like a fire?
    R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
Remember not our former iniquities: let thy mercies speedily prevent us, for we are become exceeding poor.
    R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
Help us, O God, our saviour: and for the glory of thy name, O Lord, deliver us: and forgive us our sins for thy name’s sake:
    R. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.
    Alleluia: Jn 14:23
    R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my
Father will love him and we will come to him.
    R. Alleluia, alleluia.
    Gospel: Matthew 7:21-29
