katherine: it is great to see how u bloomed and have embodied the style. I recall when I was at the school back in the early 1990 u wanted to join the company and u did. BRAVO!
I am very grateful to see the behind the scenes training and preparation for those of us who can not aspire to join this company but yet share the spirit of dance... THANK YOU!
Amazing...powerful..A great work Acts of Light...but this is even more amazing to see in rehearsal up close and so powerfully invested connected everyone is...and you - yes outstanding shining light that you are.
Yes indeed, it is transformative and one of my favorite dances - a great gift. When I was dancing more it was my dream to join the Graham company and did at one point take alot of classes when I first came for a visit after college. At the time however they were interested but did not have any scholarships left and had asked if I would consider - but time and money at the time I had to go back home to Cali. Suffice to say because of my teacher I had for a year at CalArts, Lynden Branaugh when I came to new york within a week I felt comfortable enough to move up to a Level 3 class and get through the series, which everyone kept telling me when you get there all they will say is 'and' and you go :+). Thank you for your artistry and how you lived and breathed your spirit...into the work! You are wondrously welcome...you are indeed '...an athlete of God...keeping the channel open' as Ms Martha would say.
@@crockettkath Where do you get a Gold Unitard like that? I have seen unitards in different styles and colors worn by dancers, some with straps under the feet, and others with a loop attaching to middle toes and and middle fingers.
@wesleyan97 LOL Yes. The warmup has moments of real beauty. Kazuko Hirabayashi pointed that out many years ago when we were at Juilliard. Smart lady! Agreed about the men's roles. Jason's moves in Cave are clunky indeed. Ditto the princess. But Paul Taylor's solo in Alcestis: Stupendous! Though its likely Martha started him off saying: thrust the flower through the stone then do something more with it for 60 odd bars. Don't know if Alcestis is still in rep. Not my fave score.
Dear Katherine! I am a dancer from Ukraine and I am looking for studying Graham technique. Where is it possible to do, can you advice me the place and country please? I am seeking that very much and of course want the teacher to be totally professional in that technique!) I would be very grateful for advice!)
Hi Natalia I'm not Katherine but there is a Martha Graham Dance company in NYC that offers training and I think I saw youtube videos of classes being taught in Marais Paris. There are also DVDs for sale that teach Martha Graham Technique.Always tackle your dreams and believe in yourself. www.marthagraham.org
This is barely choreography. Its really the floor technique which opens every Graham dance class. Graham was scratching the bottom of the creative barrel. Its a long way from Acts of Light to the stupendous choreography of Night Journey; or Cave of the Heart, (whose composer, Samuel Barber, said that as a title, Cave of the Heart is way too over the top. He wanted it titled simply MEDEA. My vote is for Dark Meadow as her finest work. Diversion of Angels as most lyrical.
Truly amazing. Katherine Crockett is the most beautiful dancer.

@Lucasdanse The music is "Helios" by the wonderful Scandanavian composer whose name escapes me at the moment.
Helios Overture by Carl Nielsen
FABULOUS!
¡Hermoso!
amazing!
@BillSalem "Barely choreography"
The composer is the Dane, Carl Neilsen.
@marlngomz Of course, Nielsen! Thank you.
