  • Public Works' vactor truck is the biggest in their fleet...this tank truck is designed to suck up mud when at a job site if a water line needs to be repaired, or leaves and debris from just under a storm drain grate. But in today's case, it was being used to rid root intrusion from nearby trees and shrubs, whose roots had found their way into the line; the City's water lines are joined together with compression fittings, so every 3 months, Public Works goes out with the vactor to certain areas to clear roots and any other solids from the line. This is done by shooting water out of the root cutter attachment at 2,000 psi! That kind of hydraulic pressure can put a hold in your hand!
The crews was at Old County across from the signboard today, and then at the corner of Park Place and Park Lane. This afternoon they'll be up on Solano near Pool. If you see them, tell them thanks for doing this important work so that we avoid having any sanitary sewer overflows!
