Yeah, they were released at about the same time that the first ban lists were made, and Konami wanted to make nerfed versions of some of the more high-profile bans. Ruin and Demise for BLS and CED. Lightning Vortex for Raigeki. Stuff like that.

Back when me and my brother were kids in the early 2000s we were just starting to understand the rules. We both built attribute based decks and I have many fun memories of Gray Wing buffed with rising air current swinging for game against my brothers fire deck. The discard also helped put winds in grave to summon Silpheed
Yeah I did the same with my bro I loved using UFO Turtle to bring out Ultimate Baseball Kid, Raging Flame Sprite, Solar Flare Dragon, or Fire Princess :3
The fire structure deck was the worse. It would lose to every other structure deck: ocean, earth, gadget, etc... The legendary ocean one definitely was the strongest
@agr0nianTV Solar Flare Dragon lock was my bread and butter win condition. Raging flame sprite with gravity bind would tag their LP as the dragons burned them every End Phase.

@@turtlesfan44 That depends on how easily your deck brings out a level 8 or higher monster (and gets it off the field again). I'm not sure how Zombies would do it (Eldlich would be one possibility) but for a Fusion focussed archetype such as Branded, with many Fusion monsters that are level 8 or higher, this is almost trivial.
@@turtlesfan44 In Zombie World? Eh, not really. Doomking Balerdroch is a three-of with very easy revival conditions, and if you've found a reason to send him to the Graveyard, then Deal with Dark Ruler is live. The main issue is more to do with consistency, since Deal with Dark Ruler isn't searchable and Berserk Dragon is a Garnet.
@@misterbadguy7325 Balerdroch is exactly what i play. its by no means a meta viable deck but its fun to whip it out at my locals and just mess around :) and usually i play just 1/1 so its always either a nice surprise or a brick in hand. Not that Zombie world has a lot of brick issues so w/e
Tyrant Burst Dragon is useful for the Raid Duel events in Duel Links when combined with Power of the Guardians and whatever monster deals the most damage for that particular event. Binary Blader definitely should have been a super early card of the link era and I say this as someone who loves the card. Gray Wing is one of the cards I consider for Action Duel starters like a lot of cards with discard costs that get overlooked simply because discarding a potentially useless action card is better than a card from your deck. I think Misaki used Wattwoodpecker just as deck filler and as a level 3 for her synchros in Over the Nexus. Love the character, but her deck really showed how limited the options for decks was in the game. The Monk series is just a fun, silly deck.
@@thatman666 Who knows at this point. Half the pack filler now is random legacy support. Heck, Guardian Sphinx got a retrain a while back and I wouldn’t be surprised if most long time players forgot the card existed. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a bowl with card series/archetype names on slips of paper and grab a random one wherever they need to start filling in the one offs.
I love the line of “there are 2 kinds of Predaplant cards: the ones that interact with predator counters, and the actual good ones.” Had me f’ing dying
A scuffed issue with Berserker is that Deal with Dark Ruler can miss timing with many of the monsters that work with it. If a monster like Archfiend Emperor self-destructs during the end phase, that’s counted as the last act of the turn, so you can’t chain DWDR, at least that’s how the ruling used to be. It really needed support to make it remotely viable. What’s sad is that it’s buffed from the anime, since the anime version could only attack up to 4 monsters whereas the actual version can attack every monster, so up to 6
Berserk Dragon should get more recognition. Level 8 monsters can be send to the Grave easily nowadays (think the Danger Monsters for example), the Spell is highly searchable (via Archfiend Heiress, Fiendish Rhino, Tour Guide, e.t.c.) and you can use it (or even multiple copies) during the Battle Phase, which can surprise your opponent. And 3500 ATK for a Monster that can attack as long as your opponent has monsters on the field is pretty high stats, even in 2022.
Why exactly should it get more recognition? Just because you CAN summon it doesn't mean you will. Most decks have no trouble OTKing and the ones that do don't have the resources or want to play this card. Plus if you manage to search the spell and resolve it you're probably already winning that game. And finally, you're spending your normal summon on this. Instead of activating Faithful Adventure. Or normal summoning Aelister the Invoker.
I really like Berserk Dragon. I play it in my Egyptean God deck. Even if the enemy gets past one God card, which is easily done with mirror force, then the Berserk dragon doesn't leave me with nothing. Of course I would rather like to keep the God Card, which is why I play Mound of the bound creator.
Berserk dragon is actually really good in branded as every fusion monster is lv 8 and you can send most of them to the gy with virus cards and if you fusion summon again with a lv 8 for mirrorjade so it's a free 3500 beat stick and you can use it as fusion material and shuffle it back in the deck with springan katt and by using it as material in hand, gy or banished so you can recycle it. The best bit is on a deal with the dark ruler it says if a lv 8 is "sent" to the gy not destoryed and its a quick play.
How about a series of the top 10 cards from each set, starting ALL the way from the beginning and leading up to current. Think of it as a nice nostalgia trip
I use C34 for my Token Beatdown deck. Pair it with the Field Spell that kills of SS and NS monsters into tokens along with many Malefic Monsters and you have 3-5k Token Beaters that can attack twice. Granted, its hard to summon so u usually go for the Field Spell and Play my Malefics then use the Trap that battle protects my tokens +1k attk than actually summoning C34.
Whoever had the completely moronic idea to give the battle-based Ruin less ATK than the effect-based Demise was an idiot. She should have had like 2800 ATK, and when she destroys a monster by battle, get 500 ATK and attack a monster again and be able to do so infinite times per turn. Let the player pay 500 LP or something. Also, always had a laugh at how Predaplants have an entire counter mechanic named after them, but any card that doesn't use the counters is actually good because those just become splashable broken generic fusion support.
I like that they let you use a stand in for the Hello Fresh Add. It would be hard for them to deliver it to the moon, and it would be even harder for you being a mechanical spider and all.
Master Monk has some solid artwork- I’d really like some modern support to kinda turn into what happened to thunder dragons. Maybe not as oppressive so it gets banned but make it just fun to play
It is at least semi-playable in Goat Format. Not meta or anything, but a double-attacker with 1900 ATK can actually do something there, since 3800 damage in a single turn is a benchmark that not many monsters clear, and Lone Wolf makes it one of the very few monsters with good protection. Add in Gigantes and Berserk Gorilla, and you have a pretty explosive beatdown deck (albeit with a greater tendency to brick).
To be fair, there was a deck in Duel Links that shredded Raid bosses. It would use 2 monsters that could attack directly and after each attack would gain ATK, along with power of the guardians and tyrant burst dragon you could easily defeat the highest difficulty boss with over 100,000 health. So tbf Tyrant burst dragon isn’t THAT bad.
I remember my friend has a casual deck that used Ruin in combination with Djinns. Presider combines with Ruin's effect to draw 2 cards, while Releaser locks out special summons. It also used cards like Forbidden Lance and Honest to make up for Ruin's low attack (and Honest even carries over to both attacks, which is nice). It was actually pretty powerful and could compete with tier 2 decks. So I always get weirded out when I see Ruin on so many worst cards lists.
The big question here is: what part did Ruin contribute to that? Djinn Releaser is obviously broken and banned now, but why would you specifically use Ruin there over actually consistent ritual archetypes? The Djinns work with every ritual after all, and a ritual monster with no specific support or backup to make it easier to summon will perform much worse than others.
Master Monk has been clutch for me in my Megarock Dragon Goat deck, it cannot be normal summoned so it helps go through more cards with Reasoning and Monster Gate, and it's ability to attack twice has come up to close games out after something like a big Megarock is barely not enough
I don't precisely recall how it was used in the show, but I want to say that Chimera Clad's deal was attacking into a battle immune monster and then curb stomping that monster for high damage once you dropped it to zero attack. Not something especially consistent, but I can see the thought process behind it.
It was actually even sadder than that. In the anime, Chimera Clad doubled the equipped monster's ATK when you took damage from a battle involving it instead of reducing the opponent's monster's ATK to 0, and could be used any number of times per turn. What it was used for was ramming Utopia Ray V into Vector's Number C104 (which was equipped with a card that made its ATK equal to that of the monster it was battling +100) about 5 times for no actual benefit to demonstrate Astral going crazy.
Binary Blader would have been interesting if it was released in year 1 of Link Monsters and when Scapegoat was like THE NUTS. Lol. Tokens do count as Normal Monsters after all. Could have been a neat aggressive tool.
0:17 This one is a simple fix; make the multi attack effect _When this card destroys a monster by battle this card can make another attack._ Additionally, king and queen each could have the shared effect of _Once per turn, After you activate this effect, you can add “End Of The World” and 1 ritual monster listed on it to your hand from your deck or GY._
You know what, let me proper retrains written out for each one: _Ruin, Queen Of Oblivion_ (LIGHT) Level 8 Fairy/Ritual/Tuner//Effect _You can Ritual Summon this card with "End of the World". You must also Tribute monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels equal or exceed the Level of the Ritual Monster(s) you Ritual Summon._ THERE, now the king and queen have a matching and beefier ATK stat, are both level 8 tuners because I hear that’s currently the best level for a tuner in the current game, Ruins multi-attack effect works better and they both have a way to help bring each other out. In addition their shared ritual can now bring BOTH out at the same time if you have 16+ levels of monsters in your hand or on your field to tribute for it, while making the level requirement for even summoning one of them more flexible.
I was considering playing berserk dragon cause the condition is actually very flexible. And 3500 atk isn't too bad. I just never got around to it. Wouldn't have figured I'd see it on this list lol

I always liked Gray Wing and Berserk Dragon. They were some of my favorites that I owned. It's a bit of a shame that they're not more useful, though. It's not entirely accurate to say that "A Deal With Dark Ruler" is hard to search though: Since it's technically an Archfiend card, it can be searched with Archfiend Heiress or their support. Likewise, Berserk Dragon can be brought about by the self-destruction effect of Archfiend Emperor. In the slower days of dueling, I'd try to make that hybrid deck work online.
Threw Ruin into a Cyber Angel deck once. Between the Valkyrie Chariot I threw in there for Izana and Idaten's tribute effect I've found it to be an alright side deck card (mostly there because of the Ruin support cards taking up some main deck space I'd sometimes rather other stuff take, since locally barrier statues managed to be a part of our meta I need some attribute coverage), but definitely not easy to splash into just anything.

I actually really like Number 43 and C43, so I was pretty surprised to see Number C43: High Manipulator of Chaos take the number 1 spot of this list...even if C43 is the worst out of the bunch here, so maybe that's not quite an achievement to be happy about. I know it might be cringe to say this, but not that long ago, I actually used my experience of making customs to give Number 43 its own deck in a similar way to the original Thunder Dragon, and I DID NOT make it FTK focused. While making those cards for the amazingly cool soul-puppeteering demon, I had to make a new Chaos evolution for it because High Manipulator of Chaos is just so ungodly bad. In the anime, Number 43 and C43 worked perfectly together once you read their effects, but in the physical printing of them? Nope, zero synergy between them; they actually contradict each other's effects. The new Chaos evolution I made is anime C43's effect, but with much less text, so the excuse of "oh it would be too long to translate its anime effect" is out the window. Anways, enough of me going off about customs, this is a great vid. Double-attacking monsters are so fun to use with how much unga bunga damage they can usually pull off.
i feel like an important note about gray wing is that its was released WAY before mataza and asura with mataza being a direct powercrept version of gray wing
I actually used Hermos in a red eyes deck in duel links that was supprisingly solid.. The core of the deck is pretty tight and leaves some extra space in the extra deck. Having the optional utility of a huge attack boost of red eyes sword, the negate effect of goddess bow or defensive pierce and seccond attack of cannon. Hell I even used the time hammer in a weird version of the deck that was supprisingly useful.
One funny way i use Squid Drosera is getting it on the field, bounce it for Fallen Angel of Roses so it puts Predator Counters + i can use the same copy of it for the multi-attack effect.
We should get a berserk dragon retrain. It has an amazing design, and given the fact it is zombie type, I mean, it could be a zombie Synchro retrain, a beater that they are missing
Well, it seems like SOMEONE doesn’t know that Ruin and Demise have a Quick-Play Ritual Summon from DECK card- AND a whole archetype of legacy retrains and spell/trap support. Not to mention, it and its retrains being Light-Fairy gives it access to the Machine Angel toolbox, including the Field Spell.
@@thaddeusgenhelm8979 Honestly, I agree. Still, the fact that so many of the support cards only work on the original name upsets me- which means I can't use the Quick-Play spell on in-deck copies of the level 10s. And on top of that, needing to use EXACTLY 10 levels of Ritual Monsters in an archetype made up of level 4s and 8s is REALLY frustrating. It's kinda why I run the level 6 Cyber Angels right now, until I get better cards.
@@jj12343211 I agree they have their flaws. In an 8000 LP game with 40 card decks, it can get hard to field enough damage for an OTK, even with MP2 Gustav. And a ritual-from-deck trap, as great as it is, can be interrupted due to its lack of speed. I find duel links to be a much better format for them- tighter deck size means a more consistent engine, even with halved burn for Ruin & Gustav. And in a pinch, Temperance + Manju is 10 levels.
In all honesty I did play gray wing in a harpy deck back when I used to play old school gba yugioh, I don't remember the name of the monster that let's you special summon a wind monster with 1500 or less atk from the deck, but gray wing was good when it had nothing in the back row that would prevent it from attacking, which harpy decks loved to destroy back row.
A possible replacement for Ruin at #10 would be Lord British Space Fighter (my favorite card in the game, lol). It doesn't need to be ritual summoned, but with only 1200 ATK and the requirement to destroy a monster by battle to attack again, it could easily be a top 10
The last deck I was running before I stopped playing Yugioh was monk themed. They might not have been good but I loved the idea of them, and lone wolf seemed broken to me at release.
My step-dad made a ritual deck that ran 3 of Ruin and Demise. I thought it was a brilliant deck until I took it to locals and lost in the 2nd round to a Cyber Dragon deck.
7:53 - Honable mention: Hayabusa Knight. It has the same ATK, 700 DEF and is an Earth monster that can attack twice. It doesn't have any ability other than that. This might make it sound like it's just a straight-up downgrade by comparison until you look at it's typing: Warrior. Which has *WAY* more support than Thunders, not to mention being searchable via RotA. While it shares this distinction with Mataza the Zapper, which has a bonus effect and 300 more ATK, Hayabusa Knight is still an option if nothing else, and anything that works with Mataza with regards to its typing would work with Hayabusa, which is likely why Duel Logs didn't put it on the list despite not having a secondary effect.
I have an idea. Spell cards that are the attack name the monsters Burst stream of destruction Infernal fire blast Cosmic flare Photon stream of Destruction
Dark burning magic would be the most powerful, requires both DM and DMG but in return its a board wipe, pretty easy to set up to, since their is a fusion monster that can be brought out easly with secrets of dark magic that floats into DM and DMG, and DM spells and traps are insanely easy to get
I'm surprised Lord British Spacefighter wasn't an honorable mention. It does have the benefit of being a level 4 light machine monster, meaning you can simply normal summon it and attack. It gets one of its effect when it destroys a monster by battle, once of which is to attack again. The main problem is it's attack is only 1200. If it had even say, 1850 or higher it could potentially be a consistent tool for beat down. As it is now it only really has a niche in Gradius beatdown. As it's a valid target for Limiter Removal, Honest, and cards like Inferno Reckless Summon.
Dunno if you've done this, or if there are even enough cards for it, but top 10 cards with a mulligan effect would really help a gimmick deck I'm working on
As a Gladiator Beast player, I'm "Glad" that Gladiator Beast Dimacari didn't make this list -- I'm assuming that it's due to it actually being played during Glad Beasts rise to power, as opposed to it's lack of usefulness in today's game....

In the LORE if you can even call it that. Ruin and Demise are husband and Wife. Take that for what its worth lol. Also you only ran Ruin for waifu points.
I think that there was a way to make Number 1's OTK a bit easier..... just add "Opti-Camouflage armor" to guarantee the summoned token can attack directly..... though that doesn't really help it any since Equip spells are pretty bad, it's another card you have to get for the combo, and it still fails if your opponent has any decent interaction.

Obviously this questions comes with SERIOUS caveats and it would change the landscape of the game significantly. But, I wonder what would happen if ritual monsters were implemented to the extra deck instead of the main deck while keeping the spells in the main deck. Obviously there would need to be A LOT of erratas and possibly a new master rule on top of it. Would that make rituals more usable if that were the case?
You said yourself, there would be tons of errata and bans required. Like, every single card that search ritual spells became immediately 100 times better for example.
@@thaddeusgenhelm8979 Agreed, ARA would become insanely broken and probably require a ban. I just think it's an interesting thing to think about, given the design of rituals was meant to accommodate a much slower game when they were introduced.
@@noukan42 Agreed, the rites cards would become much more powerful and pre-preparation would become useless. I like the pondering the possibility of this, even though it won't happen. I always thought rituals were really cool in concept, just executed terribly.
Maybe instead of being in the extra deck they could have their own Ritual Deck that can hold ritual monsters and ritual spell cards separately, while still being able to be slotted in the main deck. You could during your draw choice to either draw from your main deck OR your ritual deck. That would give you more room in your main deck while making ritual cards and monsters WAY more consistent. High Manipulator of Souls is hilarious, because it seems to be designed around the assumption that it’s like MTG and tokens attacking is a viable strategy. I genuinely can’t think of too many tokens that have even 1000 attack.
Gorz is the obvious answer (besides the Nibiru token, but your _opponent_ gets the Nib token so it's not exactly helping). And Token Stampede is a thing. But really it's obviously meant for its own effect. The thing very specifically makes a token with half your opponent's LP as atk points if summoned via rank-up, so it's just a really roundabout "empty your opponent's field and you get an OTK" card
If Panther Warrior was a multi-attack monster, it could easily be in the first spot. Regardless, it's cool to know most of those cards because the vast majority of them are unplayable.

I admit it, i use Berserk Dragon in my Zombie World deck its actually kinda fun to just have giant beater on the field for basically no cost.
Branded should also have easy access to it.
But isn’t it hard to summon?
@@misterbadguy7325 Balerdroch is exactly what i play. its by no means a meta viable deck but its fun to whip it out at my locals and just mess around :)
and usually i play just 1/1 so its always either a nice surprise or a brick in hand.
I’m not surprised if the Monk series have fallen into obscurity and never considered into having support.
What’s sad is that it’s buffed from the anime, since the anime version could only attack up to 4 monsters whereas the actual version can attack every monster, so up to 6
More than 6 if they float :^)
Works amazing I'n Branded Deal With Dark Ruler and Beserk Dragon
Berserk Dragon should get more recognition. Level 8 monsters can be send to the Grave easily nowadays (think the Danger Monsters for example), the Spell is highly searchable (via Archfiend Heiress, Fiendish Rhino, Tour Guide, e.t.c.) and you can use it (or even multiple copies) during the Battle Phase, which can surprise your opponent. And 3500 ATK for a Monster that can attack as long as your opponent has monsters on the field is pretty high stats, even in 2022.
Berserk Dragon is the secret main deck boss monster of Branded
Top 10 level 5 or higher monsters that can be normal summoned without tributes
Berserk dragon is actually really good in branded as every fusion monster is lv 8 and you can send most of them to the gy with virus cards and if you fusion summon again with a lv 8 for mirrorjade so it's a free 3500 beat stick and you can use it as fusion material and shuffle it back in the deck with springan katt and by using it as material in hand, gy or banished so you can recycle it. The best bit is on a deal with the dark ruler it says if a lv 8 is "sent" to the gy not destoryed and its a quick play.
Finally someone else realized he's perfect for Branded. Check out the spell card Advance Draw for Branded also
How about a series of the top 10 cards from each set, starting ALL the way from the beginning and leading up to current. Think of it as a nice nostalgia trip
Davinator1212 does that.
Maybe someone can do top 10 for side sets cause he doesn't
I was not expecting OCG Ring of destruction during Fangs of Critias.
One of the few times censorship made a card cooler.
Deal with a Dark Ruler was kind of fun when you mixed with Stardust Dragon, since you could negate a destroy effect and get a big beater out of it.
I summoned Berserk Dragon in A Fiend goat deck with dark necro fear as the lvl 8. Was very funny
You should make a list of the most fun gimmick decks over the years
Master Monk has been clutch for me in my Megarock Dragon Goat deck, it cannot be normal summoned so it helps go through more cards with Reasoning and Monster Gate, and it's ability to attack twice has come up to close games out after something like a big Megarock is barely not enough

This one is a simple fix; make the multi attack effect _When this card destroys a monster by battle this card can make another attack._
Additionally, king and queen each could have the shared effect of _Once per turn, After you activate this effect, you can add “End Of The World” and 1 ritual monster listed on it to your hand from your deck or GY._
You know what, let me proper retrains written out for each one:
_Ruin, Queen Of Oblivion_ (LIGHT)
Level 8
Fairy/Ritual/Tuner//Effect
_You can Ritual Summon this card with "End of the World". When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can activate this effect; this card can make a another attack in a row. After you activate this effect resolves you can add 1 “End Of The World” and 1 ritual monster listed on it to your hand from your deck or GY._
ATK/2500 DEF/2000
_Demise, King Of Armageddon_ (DARK)
Level 8
Fiend/Ritual/Tuner/Effect
_You can Ritual Summon this card with "End of the World". You can pay 2000 LP; destroy all other cards on the field. After this effect resolves, you can add 1 “End Of The World” and 1 Ritual Monster listed on it to your hand from your Deck or GY._
ATK/2500 DEF/2000
And maybe some love for their shared ritual spell as well:
_End Of The World_
Ritual Spell Card
_This card is used to Ritual Summon 1 "Ruin, Queen of Oblivion" and/or "Demise, King of Armageddon" each. You must also Tribute monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels equal or exceed the Level of the Ritual Monster(s) you Ritual Summon._
THERE, now the king and queen have a matching and beefier ATK stat, are both level 8 tuners because I hear that’s currently the best level for a tuner in the current game, Ruins multi-attack effect works better and they both have a way to help bring each other out. In addition their shared ritual can now bring BOTH out at the same time if you have 16+ levels of monsters in your hand or on your field to tribute for it, while making the level requirement for even summoning one of them more flexible.
fang of critias here's the thing in duel links its very useful in raid duels along with power of the guardians to deal a lot of damage
I was considering playing berserk dragon cause the condition is actually very flexible. And 3500 atk isn't too bad. I just never got around to it. Wouldn't have figured I'd see it on this list lol
Being a garnet if you can't find the right spell was probably a big factor there.
@@teddyhaines6613 it isn't a "terrible" garnet since you can play it from hand unlike assault mode monsters but the conditions to summon him and the payoffs just weren't there. It's basically boomer borrelend without the good effects. It's a cool gimmick but I realized I don't play enough big monsters to use the spell and those big monsters are usually game changing on their own anyway
Berserk Dragon is excellent in Branded

To be fair, even in that deck you don't particularly want to run the original Ruin if you don't have to.
But those cards are all really bad. Source: I played them.
6:31 damn, I kinda like savage DuelLogs, that should happen more often
I love how relaxing these videos are
The last deck I was running before I stopped playing Yugioh was monk themed.
Just wanted to say, I love your videos here and identical twins channels, they are always a good time, keep the great work
7:53 - Honable mention: Hayabusa Knight.
Spell cards that are the attack name the monsters
Burst stream of destruction
Infernal fire blast
Cosmic flare
Photon stream of Destruction

I mean, they're basically an alternative fusion gimmick at that point, so I assume yes? Advanced Ritual Art would become pretty heinous, though.
And to balance it out you can only have an extra deck OR a ritual deck.

High Manipulator of Souls is hilarious, because it seems to be designed around the assumption that it’s like MTG and tokens attacking is a viable strategy. I genuinely can’t think of too many tokens that have even 1000 attack.
Ojama tokens after Ojama Country is in play... but that implies that you run several niche cards as well as be playing Ojamas.
