It took me until about half way through the video before I realized it. Grew up in Stokes county and lived in King for about 15 years before moving to Winston but I still head up that way when I ride. Awesome bike, love the color!
Like tjis guy I was tired of trucking on a Harley and having to pass up all those dirt roads calling me to explore. The most enjoyable bike I ever had was ct110 back in the 80s I put thousands of miles on that little mule exploring trails and as a around town runner. I am. Going to get one of these in The spring!
I had a KLX300SM. I wanted to love it but it was painfully slow so I sold it. In a different timeline, all of the Japanese bike companies sell DRZ400 esque fuel injected dual sport bikes
I’m pretty sure with the KLX 300 the speedometer sensor is on the front tire so changing the sprockets won’t mess with your speedometer which is a plus. I have the 23 KLX and wish I had gotten the new headlight and plastics. And for god sake Kawasaki put a fuel gauge on these bikes!!!!!
KC Outside just did a video showing converting to the new style plastics. The headlight stayed the same because it's very expensive. But with the KX450 front fender it looks pretty dang sharp👍
It was a fairly easy install. The only issue I ran into was the stock clutch lever was too long I had to trim it down. The front brake lever fit fine. I bought these ones from Rocky Mountain ATV. I put the link in the video description. “Acerbis X Factory Handguards”
Someone should exsplain how too cross train tracks I’ve seen people on bicycles and motorcycles get messed up without proper training and or exsperiance ❤ Safe Traveling 😊
My take: don’t be fooled by the 300 cc motor it is the off-road inspired engine and has plenty of torque and guts I have the 2023 version I love it it does everything well suspension is terrific off-road and it has plenty of torque through the gears up to about 65 miles an hour on the highway Super fun around cities/Towns/ villages because it’s light nimble no question about it -you could throw it around If you happen to hit the freeway and traffic is slow you can zip around the cars it’s a slender bike. I’m in advanced rider and I prefer this to jump on and do errands and have a good time with off-road Red lines about 9000 to 10,000 you can rev it to about seven 8000 comfortably and have a blast with it
I was going to mention a newbie and not wearing gloves and I saw the comment below me absolute facts don't learn the hard way get gloves don't grind your meat off your hands
Man I think I want the D/S I’ve been eying up the Klx300R now and they have a killer deal for the D/S at my local Kawasaki shop $5399 for left over 2024 model… I’ve been watching your videos it seems like it can handle the woods just fine.
I would jump on that deal! It does do great in the woods. I’m working on a video now where I was keeping up with UTV’s and SXS’s through mud and creek crossings etc. I would recommend swapping the sprockets and getting more off road oriented tires if you want to hit tougher trails on the DS.
Love my 22' KLX 300. Got lots of mods on mine as well. Perfect for what you are doing, and also perfect if you live in a rural area, but out here in the Southwest, the bike doesn't have enough range to do BDRs and long trail loops and stuff like that, so I ended up getting a Kove 450 a couple weeks ago.
Throwing one on the sprinter van would be awesome. Yes it’ll pull me and I’m 6’6’’ 280lbs. They have it geared really well for 50/50 riding. For a little more pull I’d switch to a 13 tooth front sprocket.
@@DerekDualSport I’m in Northern California so we tend to get more rain and colder compared to southern but still mild winters with no snow so yes, I have a number of bikes and I ride year round whenever there is a break in the rain I go riding…..
Cool video man, where are you located? Also welcome to the dual sport community, I can tell you are a new rider to dualsports/dirtbikes with that full fist'ed clutch pull 😉
@@DerekDualSport When I stop to help people who didn't wear protective gear they get blood on my gear! I've been riding since '74...we bought our gloves at the hardware store back then. Blacktop can make a mess of your skin. Anyway, great bike for urban use, ski hill roads, twisty back roads, dirt/gravel roads, light off road use.
I learned my lesson back in 1976. Crashed on a sandy asphalt turn. Worn gloves ever since. I still remember one particularly big "zit" that eventually expelled a small rock from that crash. Feel absolutely naked without them. Fortunately I learned young.
I've been riding since the late 70's both street and dirt and anyone who doesn't wear gloves either didn't have a worthy mentor or hasn't had their shit chewed up yet! WEAR GLOVES
Who gives a crap about if someone wants to wear gloves or not? Why is there always that one person that has to throw out their opinion on something that doesn’t even matter…..some people don’t wear gloves, some people don’t wear helmets, some people might ride naked……good for them
Surprised that your topped out at 75 mph with 13-40 gearing (3.07 ratio). My 250S is geared 14-45 (3.21ratio) and tops out at that. Did they change the internal transmission gearing perchance? Anyway, 75 is a bit too fast for that bike as the wind really starts to push on you.
I’m sure the KTM 500 EXC F is an awesome bike. I’ve had nothing but fun with the KLX though, and it’s half the price. It works for what I bought it for.
Call me an old codger but is your criteria for riding off road as simple as "Welp, I don't see a No Trespassing sign, so I"m good?" Be careful during hunting season, I guess. Personally, I enjoy the ride a lot more knowing I'm allowed to be where I'm riding, but that's just me. Stay safe out there.
Yessir. I think these bikes are relatively cheap. All the new MX dirt bikes are over 10k nowadays, and KTM and Husq dual sports are all over 10k as well.
Yep.. $7K out the door? Golly... too much. call it inflation or greed, but the KLR650 which is a real bike, but too big is just a smidge more. No Fuel guage? No Thanks.. Yamaha needs to put their MT03 engine into an updated XT250 chasis. Water cooled, high compression, EFI is a baseline. A Twin would be much appreciated over a big thumper. Small engines need to wind up to at least 12K please.
So much fun, cheers from Argentina!
Cheers buddy! Thanks for watching.
Subscribed. Good content and a fellow Klx 300 owner. Be safe
Thank you! These are fun bikes for sure 👍
I got on a month ago in Massachusetts 7k out the door. All tax and fees. I think it's a great little bike been having lots of fun in the woods.
All the 300cc dualsport are marked up to 8-9k its crazy
Wow that is crazy, here in NC they aren’t marked up that high, and there’s a decent supply of them.
@@DerekDualSport im in so cal, i know people who bought crf300l for 8.6k OTD. For a tenere 700, youre looking at 14k OTD. Yeah fuck the dealership
Yes our the door ready to go 9500
That’s King! Awesome! Great analysis…killer bike!
Oh yeah it is! I was wondering how long it would be until someone recognized it. Thank you!

I can't believe noone has anything modern 400-500cc that is a true dual sport, it keeps me up at night.
@shdoddadbod brother, I don't get it either. Im prob gunna get a 450 and just put lights on it and go that route unfortunately.

I’ve been having a blast on this bike! I’m excited for warmer days.
Congrats on the bike 👍🏼
How easy was it to install those "bark busters" you have on the handlebars? Where did you purchase them from ... looking for something like that.

I liked the Shinko Sr 241 on the klx sunderpowered tires were fine for dtreet and trails.
I just got the SM last week, it's not heavy 304 In, fun to ride
Prices are Nutz Riding is Fun ❤
New plastics look great!. I'm seriously thinking about downsizing from my KLR to one of these (in a couple years probably)
Hey might as well have both 😂
I am thinking about when the KLR is too much for me to handle on the trails as I am probably quite a bit older than you :)@@DerekDualSport

Your right about that they definitely don’t have a lot of range. The Kove 450 looks awesome!
Fuel bladder.
How about turning the turn signal off.
I want one to throw on my sprinter van kinda afraid of it being to underpowered . Does it pull u at your weight ?

Half the weight is those massive forks lol. It's made for adventure and accessories 👍
Cool. I was going to ask your out the door price. I got quoted $9,100.00 recently, crazy.
Oh man 9,100 is steep. I’d keep looking. I was a little over $7,100 out the door. The Honda dealership near me quoted me 9,200 on the CRF 300L 😱
I bought the grey version last week, $7800 out the door. High taxes here in good ol’ California…..
The ole California tax. Congrats on the new bike! Do you get to ride year round in Cali?

@fastdude2002 awesome! Sounds like that California tax might just be worth it then haha.
If you don’t mind me asking, what Protaper bar and risers did you choose to use?
I got the pro taper CR high bend and Tusk 30mm risers. Worked perfectly didn’t even have to change any of the stock cables.
@@DerekDualSport awsome thanks for the quick reply. I’m leaning heavily towards getting the same bike in the next month or two. Great video!

I get all over the city hwy too
Never understood why ppl blur their plate. The whole world sees it going down the road.🤔🤔🤔
Spent your glove budget on cameras?
One way to tell a newbie from someone who’s been riding for life? Gloves. Newbies eventually learn though- through pain.

I am unsure if they changed the transmission gearing. I have to agree though I’m not too comfortable at high speeds on the highway on the KLX.
hown does it handle jumps and ruts?
I got this bike it flies
Are you in NC?? I used to live near King
Yeaaaah buddy, this is me cruising through King haha
Your turn signal is still on, gotta watch that. BTW 7k for a dual sport that needs a pile of mods doesn’t seem like much of a deal. Maybe next time.

No ABS available

No proper break-in will lead to higher oil consumption and lower compression.
