Environmental Charity Greenpeace encourages people to pot their Christmas trees after use. Although the branches may already be drooping, you’ll be surprised at their ability to recover if planted in a pot of soil and left to establish. I see a lot of tree “experts” adamant that a cut tree cannot survive…. I have seen one survive with my own eyes.
That's because they want to be able to sell Christmas trees to people, if everyone is replanting their own, they are scared that they will go out of business.

The tree is dead.... you can't actually plant a cut tree.
Newsflash. It's dead and some squirrel is using it to scratch its butt as that's the only use for a dead tree. Unless you're a top gardener with laboratory expertise in aboriculture and you get really lucky with the rooting hormone powder, then it'll die. Some very rare cases they've survived, but that's pure fluke, probably less than a 1% chance you can recover a cut tree.
@@brettjohnson6820 If you take the small cuttings of the tree, make verticle slits up the stems, and dip them in root harmone, you can plant a garden of new Christmas trees.
@@atmosphericraven true fir trees don't root well if you do everything perfect and use last year's new growth. Planting a 12 year old fir tree that has been cut is impossible.

I get a live Christmas tree every year and it takes forever for them to completely die, I have had one sit outside all winter, spring, summer, and then fall when we went to chop it to use for a fire it was still partially green and the trunk was "sappy". I have found it takes a good 2 years for a Christmas to completely die unless you keep it inside a dry place. I'm thinking, if replanting is possible, put the insides of a lot of disposable diapers in the dirt to help absorb as much water as possible!

I have only ever seen 1 tree take root and grow after being cut and it looked like it was going to die for at least 10 of the 15 years it lived before a lightning bolt hit it and killed the whole damn thing.
Edit: This tree was planted directly next to a creek for those who care.

It is impossible. It'll die before it can establish any kind of roots.
When I was in high school, I had a friend who's family tried to re-root their X-mas trees in their yard 5 years in a row. They got two of them to survive. The critical item was having a steady supply of water - they left the garden hose running a trickle of water to the tree for months, until it either lived, or died. Yes, they left the water trickling even when there was snow on the ground.
So, I've seen it done. I suspect the tree in this video died. In my opinion, "plenty of sun" is less important than "plenty of water."

Why we are still cutting down xmas trees is a mystery to me... we have been duped:) We need trees to survive... .and 100% trees feel pain. If Einstein was correct with quantum science and entanglement theory, we feel the pain of about 200 million pine trees each Christmas that are cut down. yes, I've heard fire prevention, but pines need fire to open their seeds. In places like Costa Rica, it's illegal to cut down trees... and it's beautiful to see how locals get creative by creating trees out of metal, or scraps. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but we HAVE to stop cutting down trees. Or at least replant them afterwards. Human beings are struggling hard at the moment since we have placed ourselves superior to nature. These trees are 100% our brothers and sisters. Great Vid

Today i had trees removed due to a storm damage and the arborist actually volunteered that he replants his x-mas trees even though they have no rootball! I should’ve asked for more details, but i was speechless. Also the tree would need to be regularly and deeply watered. But if it can be done, IMHO this video shows the only process that MIGHT work.

Never seen it done from the main stalk, however you seem like someone that doesn't think planting dried beans, or apple seeds from your apple will result in plants. If you plant the top of a pineapple it also grows a new pineapple. We throw away so much that can be replanted. Some things won't work out for you but it is possible unless you don't try. The reason I know about the pineapple is because I tossed the top in my compost pile and it started to grow. I do know you can turn that one tree into 50, you might not be able to do what he did but you can definitely grow trees from your Christmas tree

Never seen it done this way but you can definitely get around 50 trees from the cuttings from the tree, I don't know if this would work or not but it is cool and worth trying

I’ve personally seen this work before, not sure if my experience was a miracle circumstance but it did indeed grow.
@@s.thompson9 I have done plant cloning in my biotech class. It was just a small cutting from a carrot, but it does work. Plants can regenerate, I have seen this done with different cuttings from cabbages, carrots, onions, pineapple, and other plants. I have also seen cut and fallen trees start to root along the side. Grape vines will root from a cutting, make sure you get rid of them once you remove them from your yard. I think the key is watering it. And the honey prevents water loss. But the fact is only 1 out of 10 seedlings survive transplanting. So it is not BS, but there is some luck involved. Perhaps timing, the fresher you start to get it to root the better.
