I love this game. For me, the only major flaw is with having to do every mini game twice. I think if you only had to play through Blink's missions once and could get both the egg and light gem in one go, they would be far more tolerable. They should actually make a full on original adventure with Spyro, following the events of Year of the Dragon. Very similarly to how Crash got a new game.
I consider hero's tail a good game but if we're comparing the trilogy makes me think it's unfair. I'm still aware of its flaws but I give praise to all the effort they've pulled to show that insomniac is not needed. Just handled better

As for Crash I adore 1,2 and WOC, I really like number 3 but the fucking vehicle levels really tarnish my enjoyment, Twinsanity had cool music but the game design is so lacking and causes it to be far more frustrating than fun, the GBA games I actually really like, they're mediocre but fun and feel like Crash, the Mutant games are alright but much like most later Spyro games they just don't feel like Crash should. As I'm sure you can tell, whether a game feels like the series it's meant to be or not is very important to me, you can stick Spyro or Crash in any game but if the game design, gameplay, art style and music isn't right then as far as I'm concerned they're not Spyro or Crash games.
@@johnathonturner2279 word. at least we got sonic mania. that game feels like the classics. spyro and crash STILL don't have a game that comes close to the originals.
The first and last game were my favs (really the last because WE CAN FINALLY FLY AROUND!). The Eternal Night one was the bane of my existence. I get it is supposed to be dark because of the name, but why to the point of barely seeing anything in some spots and locations?!
I love how at around 5:35 with the kicker, you show a scene with a frog. In dutch, a frog is a "kikker" and is pronounced exactly the same. Just thought that was fun to share lol
I hope you end up covering the handheld games too. There was a lot of surprises on there. Like the GBA version of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night being a Metroidvania
Crash Trilogy- Spyro Trilogy Wrath of Cortex- Enter the Dragonfly Twinsanity- A Hero’s Tail Mutant Games- Legend Games N Sane Trilogy- Reignited Trilogy
IMO, this was actually my favorite Spyro game. I loved the direction it went, the music was fantastic, the art of the world was beautiful. And it made me sad that no other games were made in the style of this one.
I got this on PS2, and I loved it! Controls are much better. Love the music, graphics and the story is pretty okay. The Swamp music is my favourite! I've 100%ed this game tones of times :] If anything, this is way better than Enter the Dragonfly lol
To me, Spyro should be lighthearted & funny stuffs than going dark and edgy. I just don't see Sypro going out darker & gritty personally. Also, the original gameplay is better.
Shy. I know. It's just I prefer how Sypro was in the original main series than being mixed with beat em up kind. Plus the original series has power ups for Sypro to fight against enemies or protecting himselfs.
@@jjc4924 Tbh I only played the reignited trilogy and I liked it, a lot I did the first two 100% but I like more TLoS (logic since they are the games of my childhood). I really like platforming games but I also love beat'em up gameplay, it's just about what people prefer
I don’t think I could choose if it was the best, but I truly love this game as well. It would be awesome if they remastered it like the reignited trilogy.
Ngl a hero’s tail was and still is my favourite game, it was the first Spyro game I ever played and the first game I ever actually owned, so I’ve got a soft spot for it
I have good memories of this game...I remember getting it, and a Walkman for CDs one Christmas, and I stayed up with my little brother playing it all night long. We loved the trilogy and had all three, this one didn’t compare, BUT it was super fun to have Spyro back!
Jump On Everything I got Pokepark 2 a few months ago. In my opinion it is an upgrade from from what Pikachus Adventure was. I mean come on, who doesn't want to play as Snivy!? My favorite Grass Type starter aside from Chikorita btw. ☺
I played the game and it's so weird because it's just these two dragons with no context or info apart from what they say and then after the first boss vanish completely.
Just started to play it again and I really like it... It has some clever new ideas, beautifull locations and the feeling of exploration when you basically had one big area made it great.
Spyro isn't exclusive at all though. It's been confirmed for an Xbox release at launch too. I think they're waiting till E3 to announce a Switch version
VV is working on the Xbox and PC Ports while TFB is making the Switch version. They assisted them in the other releases of the Trilogy as well. comicbook.com/gaming/2018/03/12/crash-bandicoot-n-sane-trilogy-nintendo-switch-developer/
Fun fact: Red's motive and backstory aren't explored fully until Spyro Shadow Legacy... which unfortunately means that to really understand what's going on, you have to play Shadow Legacy, and I wouldn't wish that torment on my worst enemy.
The Pac-Man World trilogy is sinfully underappreciated. The Pac-Man World games for the GBA and Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (especially the TV show), though, are blatantly unfinished.
Yeah but that’s not what made me not like it as much. The overall level design and lackluster 3D mazes was a downer for me. I still think two is the best out of the trilogy though.
Tommy Deonauth's Archives Where that is also the problem. Skylanders was supposed to be about Spyro and his allies, but Spyro and all Spyro-like assets were killed off then Bowser, DK, and Crash got involved somehow
THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE SPYRO GAME THAT I COULD NEVER FIND. This game was my first game ever and it’s been recessed in my brain for many many years. I have never been able to find anything in this series that I recognized but that intro broke down every hidden wall in my memory
I havent played this game but they all look like really good hd versions of classic Spyro. That said, for better or worse, my final and top fave Spyro game, is DotD.
This is the first Spyro game I ever played and made me love the series... Then I played the original 3 and made me love them even more... Then I played the next games in the series and didn't want to play any again until recently :/
there's something about seeing so many comments saying they love this game that makes me think the critics didn't know what a game was when they reviewed AHT
Didn't get why Spyro himself was so dumb in this game. He looked lethargic and sleepy.. His personality was different from previous games. Apparently all the zapping fairies did to him to save the game or checkpoint his progress made him lose a bit of his IQ if I remember correctly.
@@rednebula3503 I love the Spyro is a jerk in AHT. My RaC bias showing but still. I also have a extremely high tolerance of childish (and cringy) writting and I actually found AHT's funny.

3D platformer curse. Applies to everyone but Mario, apparently.
@Max Jones No it isn't. Sonic was much better off than either Crash or Spyro.
word. they FELL OFF. almost to the point where, i sometimes wonder WHY i liked them in the first place.
@@johnathonturner2279 word. at least we got sonic mania. that game feels like the classics. spyro and crash STILL don't have a game that comes close to the originals.
Spyro looks like he ate too many of Hunter's "Special Brownies"
was barley a spyro fan when I played it and I thought it was perfectly fine
"Lastly, there's Blink...the bain of my existence!" Truer words have never been spoken.
I really liked the legend of spyro series lol
pooballify same thing but I want to try the original trilogy
The first and last game were my favs (really the last because WE CAN FINALLY FLY AROUND!). The Eternal Night one was the bane of my existence. I get it is supposed to be dark because of the name, but why to the point of barely seeing anything in some spots and locations?!
Yea
Spyro: A Hero's Tail one of my favorite game ever and spyro 3 year of the dragon !!!
I was sitting on my bed thinking huh antdude hasn't uploaded anything about Spyro *turns on phone* huh neat
Pikapower9 jeez. You a min reader???
He has uploaed enter the dragonfly review. And waayy back he reviewed the Og trilogy
jockaloo nation I was talking about the reignited trilogy
I love how at around 5:35 with the kicker, you show a scene with a frog.
In dutch, a frog is a "kikker" and is pronounced exactly the same.
Just thought that was fun to share lol
I hope you end up covering the handheld games too. There was a lot of surprises on there. Like the GBA version of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night being a Metroidvania
Crash Trilogy- Spyro Trilogy
Wrath of Cortex- Enter the Dragonfly
Twinsanity- A Hero’s Tail
Mutant Games- Legend Games
N Sane Trilogy- Reignited Trilogy
IMO, this was actually my favorite Spyro game. I loved the direction it went, the music was fantastic, the art of the world was beautiful. And it made me sad that no other games were made in the style of this one.
I got this on PS2, and I loved it! Controls are much better. Love the music, graphics and the story is pretty okay. The Swamp music is my favourite! I've 100%ed this game tones of times :] If anything, this is way better than Enter the Dragonfly lol
Literally everything is better than enter the dragonfly, this guy is just whiny lol
I love this game in terms of a sandbox experience. I loved the open ended exploration.
Thank you!! I've been literally begging you to do this game. It was always my favorite.
I actually liked The legend of Spyro series. It's not better than the originals but I liked what they did character wise like Spark and Cynder.
Dimitri Beauchamp Agreed, I appreciated the characters and story even if the gameplay was meh
To me, Spyro should be lighthearted & funny stuffs than going dark and edgy. I just don't see Sypro going out darker & gritty personally. Also, the original gameplay is better.
@@jjc4924 There was no gameplay xD Two things you can do: breath fire and charge. And platforming. There's more gameplay in TLoS
Shy.
A hero's tail was so underrated. The best Spyro imo
I love AHT & TLOS. 😎
I loved alot about AHT. But that damn mole can jump into the hell pit he spawned from.
AGREED
@@ZyliceLiddell Same.
I don’t think I could choose if it was the best, but I truly love this game as well. It would be awesome if they remastered it like the reignited trilogy.
Ngl a hero’s tail was and still is my favourite game, it was the first Spyro game I ever played and the first game I ever actually owned, so I’ve got a soft spot for it
Audience: But wait what about the Kirby anime?
Antdude: woah look it's spyro!
This is my favorite Spyro game. I beat it for the first time in years just yesterday and then you upload this video.
I just beat it this afternoon after a good few years of it gathering dust.
I used to love this game when I was younger. I wasn't good at the challenges but I had fun just exploring the stages.
This was my favorite game ever and it was my only spyro game for the gamecube
I have good memories of this game...I remember getting it, and a Walkman for CDs one Christmas, and I stayed up with my little brother playing it all night long. We loved the trilogy and had all three, this one didn’t compare, BUT it was super fun to have Spyro back!
Pokepark 2 video when?
Jump On Everything I got Pokepark 2 a few months ago. In my opinion it is an upgrade from from what Pikachus Adventure was. I mean come on, who doesn't want to play as Snivy!? My favorite Grass Type starter aside from Chikorita btw. ☺
When i was younger, Spyro A Hero's Tail really was the only Spyro game to REALLY stick with me. I loved it.
4:04
Girl Spyro looks like she would probably be the best antagonist in any new Spyro game.
It's funny you say that given the Legend of Spyro games...
She kinda reminds me of Amy Rose
I played the game and it's so weird because it's just these two dragons with no context or info apart from what they say and then after the first boss vanish completely.
I can see her getting pissed because Spyro didn't love her
This was my first game ever and I still love it!
This game needs a remaster
Nothing more true has been said
No
Just started to play it again and I really like it... It has some clever new ideas, beautifull locations and the feeling of exploration when you basically had one big area made it great.
PLEASE let the Reignited Trilogy be on Switch, for Malefor's sake!
Deaddy Fazpool It might be. I mean, the N. Sane trilogy was a timed exclusive, so it could be the same for the this one.
Spyro isn't exclusive at all though. It's been confirmed for an Xbox release at launch too. I think they're waiting till E3 to announce a Switch version
Best case scenario is that it may come latter. After all, Toys for Bob is kinda busy with this remaster and the Switch Port of Crash.
VV is working on the Xbox and PC Ports while TFB is making the Switch version. They assisted them in the other releases of the Trilogy as well.
comicbook.com/gaming/2018/03/12/crash-bandicoot-n-sane-trilogy-nintendo-switch-developer/
That would be amazing honestly
Fun fact: Red's motive and backstory aren't explored fully until Spyro Shadow Legacy... which unfortunately means that to really understand what's going on, you have to play Shadow Legacy, and I wouldn't wish that torment on my worst enemy.
Ember wasn't that bad of a character, she had potential its just the developers ruined her.
11:25 Elder Tomas was in the first game and he has nearly the same exact line. It's not a bad joke but rather a callback to the very first game. :-)
Thanks to the help of Twitter I can watch this at the time I’m supposed to and not 3 hours late
Wait this one went through
Flame looks more like his model should've been used as Spyro than the actual Spyro model itself. Spyro's model creeps me out in this game.
Spyro looks the best in this game
@@caithlin If you like dragons that look like they smoked a bowl, then sure lmao
I like legend of spyro
A cool twist could have been, flame becomes a dragon corrupted by red or somthing. But...alas..
Will you review Pac-Man world one day?
Ah yes the first two games were awesome. The third one, however, not so much.
Hindu Frappe that would be cool. I might actually review them too
Pacman world 1 on PS1 was a really solid game, it had really fun physics and was pretty damn charming.
Id love to play 2 and 3 someday
This was the first Spyro game I got and it was my childhood version of Spyro so this was the stock standard for me.
This is the best Spyro game in existence.
Skylanders. The most cursed name to the series.
The Gamer Of Legend Thank god it dropped the Spyro name for the later games....
Tommy Deonauth's Archives Where that is also the problem. Skylanders was supposed to be about Spyro and his allies, but Spyro and all Spyro-like assets were killed off then Bowser, DK, and Crash got involved somehow
Its not a bad game, it actividion just tried to make spyro its selling point
No, thats Enter the Dragonfly. The Skylanders games are actually really good and have a surprisingly solid cartoon adaption
The Gamer Of Legend The skylander games are not bad.
12:09 Huh. So Ratchet & Clank wasn't the only series to have a Biobliterator in 2004.
In this game, Spyro looks like he just got done smoking something very strong.
LOL. Spyro on some ketamine
THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE SPYRO GAME THAT I COULD NEVER FIND. This game was my first game ever and it’s been recessed in my brain for many many years. I have never been able to find anything in this series that I recognized but that intro broke down every hidden wall in my memory
I wonder if Fawful'sMinion would like to hear what Ant has to say about blink...
I fucking loved enter the dragonfly when I was a kid and I still love it
Yay a new video!
4:11 Oh, the Kirby Air Ride Meteor Event theme sure fits this perfectly. Good job AntDude.
This game was actually my introduction to the franchise, and I really enjoyed the heck out of it.
I havent played this game but they all look like really good hd versions of classic Spyro. That said, for better or worse, my final and top fave Spyro game, is DotD.
this is actually my second favorite after the first game.
7:05 Fawful's Minion would like to have a word with you
Can you do all the Isometric Spyro Gba games next. Not spyro orange.
WE DON'T SPEAK OF THAT
Isometric exercises
@@potassiumnitrate420 Why is there smoke coming out of your oven?
@@tbana2396 that's not smoke, that's steam!
This is the first Spyro game I ever played and made me love the series... Then I played the original 3 and made me love them even more...
Then I played the next games in the series and didn't want to play any again until recently :/
Last time I was this early, Littlefoot's mother was still alive
Get ready everyone, we're going on a feels trip.
FrenchOrange Too soon. Making this joke about a 30-year-old movie is still too soon.
....Y u do this? ;__;
Liek if u cry evrytim (for real. Thogh)
there's something about seeing so many comments saying they love this game that makes me think the critics didn't know what a game was when they reviewed AHT
I think its in that perfect zone of good for casual players and frustrating for those who play games for a living.
I can't close my eyes anymore. I'm afraid if I *Blink* , I'll see this game again.
yay my favorite spyro 3 character has returned bentley
Didn't get why Spyro himself was so dumb in this game. He looked lethargic and sleepy.. His personality was different from previous games. Apparently all the zapping fairies did to him to save the game or checkpoint his progress made him lose a bit of his IQ if I remember correctly.
One million brain cells
He was also unnecessarily mean. I know that Spyro in the original games was mischievous and playful but this Spyro was just an asshole.
@@rednebula3503 I love the Spyro is a jerk in AHT. My RaC bias showing but still. I also have a extremely high tolerance of childish (and cringy) writting and I actually found AHT's funny.
Heros Tail was my fave game as a kid and sometimes i come back and watch gameplays of it because i miss it
The "cringy" lines were the best. I actually loved that about the game. Always made me LOL :p
I liked being able to play as other dragons, even if they're just skins, it was a neat thing, kinda hope they bring that back.
Can't wait for you to cover the Legend of Spyro series. I realized they are flawed and quite a bit different from the original trilogy, but they are among my favorite games to this day.
(edit: about two-ish minutes into the video) Oh come on, you know you want to.
I gave this game a chance back in the day. I didn't like it for the most part but I really wanted to finish it. I've been stuck on a level involving the mole and haven't picked it up since. I totally want to finish it some day
I actually really like the music, in my opinion.
Same!
This brings back memories of this being the first time I was introduced to spyro
When AntDude uploads a spyro video, that's when you stop whatever you're doing and devote your full attention :)
i played all these games out of order and for some reason i thought it was a continuous storyline so you had random lord of the rings stuff and then what the heck enter the dragonfly was (sidenote i like the legend of spyro series just as much as the original series though that might be nostalgia getting in the way)
