The victory against Sinner in an epic and tough match, overcoming the ghosts after his two previous defeats with him, I think it has been the determining mental factor for Carlos to finish believing in his great chances of winning US open. Bravo for you Carlos. A spectacular achievement that hopefully is just the beginning of a long history of triumphs. McEnroe said that players like Carlos only arises every ten years, but I doubt very much that we will see in the next 30 years a player as complete at his age and with the same achievement: 19Y old and Number One 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Congratulations Carlito, amazing ,all respect, admiration and a big Thank You for filling the gap that Roger, Rafa and Nole will leave when they retire. The most spectacular tennis and also becoming no 1 at only 19 years young !!! Pleasure to watch your game, the variety (that I love the most) passion , intensity, desire to win and also so humbled and happy when you play !!! Your positive attitude and smile on the court even in the toughest situations, filled our hearts of joy to watch you play !!! Thank you and to many more titles !!!
Just a psychological side note: it‘s very uncommon that s.o. at such a young age is so confident touching and hugging other people (he’s still a newbie on the tour). He does it so naturally with Ferrero but also with complete strangers such as players and tournament officials. A very healthy sign of good parenthood and utter confidence in one‘s own skin. Remarkable boy
I like that he’s setting his own records, stepping out of the shadow of being “like Nadal” etc. Not youngest SINCE…. THE YOUNGEST NUMBER ONE! Youngest Winner of US OPEN (and not just a clay court miracle). 5-set champion, tie break champion, latest match in US open history. I can’t wait to see what more this wonderful young man will surprise us with! Such a pleasure to watch on and off court.
He is his own man and finally proven it. Fitting he won his first slam here . He is more a double handed Federer with shades of nadal (hits with more spin on average than Roger) but also Djokovic. The best attributes of the big 3

Tsitsipas needs to ditch his parents as coaches first, Zverev may be more motivated than the rest fr, remember their match at RG22?! Sinner, for me, is the most dangerous player against Carlitos, but I feel he needs to bulk up and improve his fitness like Carlos and PCB.
Finally, a worthy champion to carry the sport into future generations. Fully deserving and no other way to prove his arrival at the big stage. Even though I cannot really connect in the same way as do with Nadal, the level of tennis produced by Carlos was certainly up there with the big 3. Unfortunately, the speed at which he climbed the rankings is a real testament to how overrated and inconsistent the rest of nextGen players are.
Tbf, Alcaraz didn't go against a Big 3 this tourney. Not discounting his amazing opposition or him. He has all the shots to put away the big 3 and mentality to hang in there. Just that he needs that level of pressure like other nextgeners got (remember when Nishikori, Monfils, and Dimetrov were next gens? Lol)
@@batmon696 agree. the real test would be to beat at least 2 of the big 3 in one slam. no human has done it, with the exception of Nalbandian in a masters 1000 event (i think). Irrespective, really glad to see him not only arriving at the big stage (in style), but, also setting the benchmark for others to catch up. After Nadal knocking off, i was worried this would again be so underwhelming as Zverev v Thiem (2020).
The real test is now. You can take the example of Thiem , he lost motivation after just single grandslam. Two weeks fighting for the trophy is very exhausting both mentally and physically . The top 3 achieved this 20 or more times. The real test starts from here how he carry himself forward.

I never thought he'd be able to even reach a grand slam final to be honest. Even after Roland-Garros, I found him a player ranked well above his skill and believed him to be where he was largely for putting in the work and doing an insane amount of matches. Now, it is clear to me that he has consistently stepped up his game. He is only 23 (Tennis players tend to peak at 24-25) meaning he will likely still have room for a decent amount of progression - and of course, the top players continue to pick up skills to the end - so I would not could him out of winning a slam yet - even if he is still not the most likely contender, he should be part of the conversation after two finals in 1 year.
