    Great advice. You make good points about the low action and even spaces between strings is utmost importance. I remember you on youtube more than 10 years ago. I learned from you as a beginer. Yes its true. We have all come a long way since then! Also listen for bad guitars with too much plastic varnish the sound will not come through and plastic sounds on the 3rd string are common in badly constructed guitars.
    Thanks sooo much.

    Another thing to keep in mind: Will you always be playing the instrument while seated, or sometimes from a standing position? If the latter, it will need a strap holder!

    • @markwheeler8869
      @markwheeler8869 6 років тому +1

      That's true, and I myself would never play standing, because I find it uncomfortable and don't like the effect on my technique -- but many nylon-string performers, including Edina, Rodrigo and Gabriella, Jesse Cook and others who are not strictly classical or flamenco players, do play from a standing position. Their guitars need to be equipped with strap holders.

    • @TheSpanishGuitarHub
      @TheSpanishGuitarHub  6 років тому +1

      Yes I need a strap holder otherwise it would not work. Not even mentioning all the Rumba bands are standing up, Gypsy kings. And all the Mexican bands who play on nylon string guitar as well. So it is not that uncommon.

    Clear explanations though nothing on the guitar sound. I've spent weeks listening to different flamenco guitars on web sites and UA-cam and there is a variation, and not just depending on price. Shops have a limited range but are useful if a beginner (then the choice is not so important) or one is already sure on what to buy. I have made a choice (so far) but still unsure if two identical guitars would sound similar, or sound as demonstrated on the internet. With this doubt I will not order without trying it first which means await the end of the epidemic then travelling to Andalucía because of the availability and number of guitars (so to try out a number of identical ones).

      Listen, I have the same problem until now... I've found this seller on eBay with links to youtube for each guitar and some under $700 with an amazing sound. Matter of fact, I almost bought one today that was only $769, heard it, was nice and then heard another costing just $999 with case and the sound blew me to Hell!! I thought I was hearing a Felipe Conde worth $11,000 Euros!! wow!! Sitka Spruce, Flamed Maple, Ebony board and even a 'Carbon' inner Rod to keep the neck straight for years to come, I mean, Real Quality and best of all, I get to 'hear it' before I buy it and I'm buying it tomorrow. Hear it here in this link: ua-cam.com/video/a8Rsv2MDMlQ/v-deo.html

    Excellent video. On the nots of acoustic-electric guitars, I find the piezoelectric pickups not very nice sounding. So, I am wondering whether it is better to get a guitar without mic, and buy an external microphone on a stand instead. What is your opinion?

    • @TheSpanishGuitarHub
      @TheSpanishGuitarHub  3 роки тому

      Depends on what you want to do with the guitar. If you are a touring musician it is not a good solution because you play in many different PA systems and probably most times you would feedback. Obviously for playing and even recording I do not use the pickup just for live performance. But to be honest I recorded so much with my CAMPS electric-acoustic guitar (with external microphones) and it is just sounds lovely. But a guitar without pickup can sound better it all depends on the brand, type etc.

    About “cutaway” classical guitars- are they always electro-acoustic ? how do they sound unplugged ? and do they have same width at the nut generally or narrower like metal- strung acoustics? I like the idea of better access to higher frets but dont really want to have to keep plugging in to an amplifier!!

    • @cmcapps1963
      @cmcapps1963 3 роки тому

      Often acoustic electrics sound as loud as non-acoustic electrics: in fact most manufacturers have 2 versions of the same model, and they are identical except that one has a pick up and/or cutaway. About half of the cutaway guitars I see for less than $1,000 with nylon strings have full size necks and the other half are slightly slimmer. Not as narrow as a steel string but just a little less wide than a traditional classical. This is especially true of "thinline" models, where the whole body is thinner. These do have a little less volume than a regular acoustic although you certainly wouldn't need an amp to play at home.

    You make no mention of scale length, 650,640,628, nor of nut width which is different on a classical vs flamenco instrument. Did you need to consider those when you purchased yours? What about a radiused fretboard? Seems that those ar catching on right now?

    • @TheSpanishGuitarHub
      @TheSpanishGuitarHub  6 років тому +1

      I considered scale length when I bought mine, but not nut with. Mine is flat fingerboard. What I needed actually with mine, is that the strings are closer on the 12th fret, cutaway, also double preamp, one in the wood, one in the bridge, so I can amplify the wood as well as the strings. And that it is not feedbacking. Although I already had some issues with feedback so I bring for smaller stages or not so nice PAs I still use my Yamaha guitar, it never ever feedbacked and I played hundreds of shows since I bought it. And of course I wanted a bit narrow neck, the classical neck is too wide for me. I guess everybody has different needs when they buy a guitar. I rather tried to find these qualities on a guitar then go for a brand.
