Even more crazy if you've been following Johnny's career since the mighty morphin power ranger days like I have. I did'nt even know he worked on anime until this show came out and even then it took me awhile. I kept having this strange feeling like ok that voice sounds really familiar. One day during high school i finally looked up his voice actor on the internet and got my answer. In short Johnny is awesome and I'm so happy I watch anime, not only is he now the voice of a really important charachter in One Piece but he get's to return to the role that first made me aware that he was a voice actor and finish that series properly.
It seems they didn't tell Johnny he would be interacting with Morita, but Morita was able to make this video cooler with his comments about Johnny's performance. I really love it!
I don't think it's Johnny's fault, the people who orchestrate these videos don't always tell the VAs what the video is going to be about they just give them a generalization and try to wing it so one side does one thing and the other does it another way.
Just because the VAs acknowledge each other doesn't mean the fans have to lol. I'm sure the English dub is great, but unfortunately I can only hear one audio track at a time, and for me that's going to be the Japanese original. I also think Masakazu Morita's Ichigo has much more passion when delivering certain lines. A passion that I cannot imagine Ichigo without.

Further, they didn't claim to be an expert, they just gave their opinion. For me, while there are some great English speaking VAs, I generally default to the Sub over the Dub. I find that Dubs often have at least one or two VAs who are just horrible. And I don't mind reading subs and I have gotten used to understanding inflection in Japanese, even if I only understand like 5% of what is being said.
Bleach is one of the shows where the dub absolutely crushed it. I hope that they get as many of the original actors as possible back to reprise their roles!!!

Johnny's career has really evolved over the years. Starting off as a Black Power Ranger to doing voice over roles. Doesn't surprise me he is almost close to turning 50.
Just hearing JYB saying the words "Thousand Year Blood War" got me pumped. And I agree with everyone that both the sub and the dub are great. I'm probably gonna watch both.

With One Piece, my exposure to anything dubbed was 4Kids, but after that, I only watched it subbed. When I went back to see how some of the voices sound dubbed, while I do think some voices work, like Zoro, Nami, Usopp, etc, with voices like Franky and Rayleigh, I just can't even. Franky is one of my favorite Straw Hats, and 40% of that is the Japanese voice actor, and Franky's dub voice sounds like a surfer dude, and instead of sounding regal and wise, Rayleigh sounds like a bitter and crotchety old man. I don't like those voices at all. I could _never_ watch One Piece dubbed.
I hate it. It's obvious that Japanese seiyuu are pressured to make these shows of politeness to English voice actors. The former are coerced by Japan's culture of politness to sacrifice their self-respect to pretend that the latter are their equals.
I was literally waiting for that iconic, “BAN-KAI! GETSUGA…TENSHOOO!!!” scream off between Johnny and Masakazu. We need that video before the Thousand-Year Blood War arc ends.
I have my respect for both English and Japanese voice actor of ichigo because they both nailed it really well & i hope bleach anime will live on for future generations
That's the thing. Japanese VAs are forced to give shows of respect to English VAs, out of pressure from Japan's culture of politeness. If they were allowed to be candid without judgment, I think Japanese VAs would consider English VAs beneath them as much as fans of Japanese VAs do.

It's wild to me, as someone who started out watching Bleach on Netflix in dub, then transitioned over to sub once the Netflix episodes ran out. When I think about Ichigo, I think of an amalgamation of the two of their voices together. So hearing them both side by side is absolutely wild to me. So much respect for both of these guys.

So like you, I think there's something amazing about both the dubbed and subbed interpretations and really appreciate both! Wish more people could be more wholesome about just enjoying everything about Bleach, period.
@@stepehend2498 Totally agree! Dub!Aizen is perfection. For such a huge cast, I think the choices on both ends of the park are fantastic. And this is even when I do have preferences. I.E, I think dub!Grimmjow could have been better. I would have preferred a VA with a deeper candor like Junichi Suwabe. But I also prefer dub!Hitsugaya, over the Japanese. It's fun to have an appreciation for both sides.

i started watching bleach on hulu in sub (back when hulu was actually free to watch with no account, crazy huh?) and like after almost 300 episodes in (somewhere around karakura arc) i finally got tired of reading the screen and switched to dub. then after a few years of not watching it i tried to watch it in english, but then went back to sub cause i preferred it lol. might have saw some of the movies in english too. it is strange hearing them together. im not a big fan of bleach dub but jyb is perfect for ichigo.

Johnny and Morita voice Ichigo pretty differently. Morita is more the "loud type", and Johnny is more the "quiet but sharp type", but both of them still feats to Ichigo's character perfectly. Johnny in general is of my favorite English VA with characters such as Nero (DMC) and Yukimura (Sengoku Basara).
It's pretty cool to see the JP and EN voice actors for Ichigo doing a collaboration video like this. I'm excited to see this final arc in anime form; especially since apparently they're going to expand upon some of the more rushed plots from the manga.

This was so wholesome and brings back SO much nostalgia! I was in early MIDDLE SCHOOL when I first started watching Bleach, was probably nearing the end of high school when it "ended", and NOW I'm earning a Master's in college and working a full time job... This anime's amazing.

They both sound a bit different than they used to... but not so different to change the crazy nostalgia from hearing them read those lines

I have never watched the Original Japanese version, but the Japanese VA _definitely_ has Ichigo down, I can easily hear the character from both of them.
Heartwarming to see both interact. Regardless of everyone's choice between sub and dub, it's pretty cool that they decide to show both and give them equal importance.

As much as people rave about Johnny's voice acting, Masakazu is still #1 for me. To this day, he still has one of the most unique voices I've heard in anime. There's a little fray in his voice now that he's 50, but he's still the same old Ichigo. Love this (one-sided) interaction between the 2 voice actors.
These guys are the voices of a huge chunk of my life. From college watching episodes when it aired on adult swim for the first time to waiting to watch new episodes in Japanese and falling in love with the true sub experience. Thank you both for amazing memories. Your legacy is being passed down to my son. Getsuga tensho!!!!!!

Gotta say, I absolutely love Johnny as a voice actor and I tend to watch the Bleach English dub, where available, if I'm re-watching Bleach clips BUT Masakazu Morita's "bankai!" against Ginjo is comfortably my favourite of the whole series. He's such a fantastic voice actor. And It's not always easy to fully appreciate voice actors when they're speaking in a language I don't understand. Sometimes the tone helps... I do feel like Kuroko's Basketball and Stein's Gate sound far better in Japanese, even to my English ears. I'm just grateful that the art of anime exists.

Hearing both of them do Ichigo's line in their respective language gave me chills! To see this interaction for the first time for me, really made me smile. Not a big fan of the arc itself after finishing the manga, but the voice acting in the ENG and JP versions should be a treat for viewers and hearing this little demo from two great VAs was a nice distraction and odd motivation sitting here drawing my own manga! Hope there's more of these, and the final product really gives fans even more hype just like these two did!
I love bleach as a kid I would always watch it every Saturday night on toonami and it's been 10 years when the last season finish back in 2012 and I'm glad it's coming back because bleach is apart of my childhood

You know, you can laugh about getting old and maybe its not same energy, vibe of voice of the character, but since soooo much stuff happened in story, characters are getting old too, they develop, so its even more natural to slightly show this difference by voice. On purpose or not (because of age), you can just feel this, cant describe this but feel it.
I remember watching Bleach through the English Dub first. I unironically enjoyed it even after I started watching the JP dub. Whenever I think of Ichigo I always think of his English voice.

Johnny was going to make his voice sound closer to Morita’s performance but the English director wanted to tone it down for the English audience.

This was so wholesome and brings back SO much nostalgia! I was in early MIDDLE SCHOOL when I first started watching Bleach, was probably nearing the end of high school when it "ended", and NOW I'm earning a Master's in college and working a full time job... This anime's amazing.

Yo ngl... I can't wait to watch the subbed and dubbed versions... it's really interesting hearing both Japanese and English voice actors going over old lines back to back. They both sound a bit different than they used to... but not so different to change the crazy nostalgia from hearing them read those lines

I have never watched the Original Japanese version, but the Japanese VA _definitely_ has Ichigo down, I can easily hear the character from both of them.
Heartwarming to see both interact. Regardless of everyone's choice between sub and dub, it's pretty cool that they decide to show both and give them equal importance.

As much as people rave about Johnny's voice acting, Masakazu is still #1 for me. To this day, he still has one of the most unique voices I've heard in anime. There's a little fray in his voice now that he's 50, but he's still the same old Ichigo. Love this (one-sided) interaction between the 2 voice actors.
These guys are the voices of a huge chunk of my life. From college watching episodes when it aired on adult swim for the first time to waiting to watch new episodes in Japanese and falling in love with the true sub experience. Thank you both for amazing memories. Your legacy is being passed down to my son. Getsuga tensho!!!!!!

when the voice actors get the tone of the character!. never cocky but always sure of himself. they both have their own personality that comes through.
I gotta be honest, never heard Ichigo's dubbed voice, I preffer the japanese one, but Jhonnie's "BANKAI" gave me goosebumps dude. Very happy Bleach is back and we get these chads voicing Ichigo again. Based

Gotta say, I absolutely love Johnny as a voice actor and I tend to watch the Bleach English dub, where available, if I'm re-watching Bleach clips BUT Masakazu Morita's "bankai!" against Ginjo is comfortably my favourite of the whole series. He's such a fantastic voice actor.
And It's not always easy to fully appreciate voice actors when they're speaking in a language I don't understand. Sometimes the tone helps... I do feel like Kuroko's Basketball and Stein's Gate sound far better in Japanese, even to my English ears. I'm just grateful that the art of anime exists.
That was Soo incredibly wholesome!!! I am Soo happy to see the Japanese voice actor being Soo fond of beloved Johnny Yong Bosch's voice for Ichigo!! It is indeed Soo cool!! And I hope this means the English dub is on the fast track for BLEACH TYBW!! I'm so happy to see their enthusiasm for bleach!!!
Hearing both of them do Ichigo's line in their respective language gave me chills! To see this interaction for the first time for me, really made me smile. Not a big fan of the arc itself after finishing the manga, but the voice acting in the ENG and JP versions should be a treat for viewers and hearing this little demo from two great VAs was a nice distraction and odd motivation sitting here drawing my own manga! Hope there's more of these, and the final product really gives fans even more hype just like these two did!

I love bleach as a kid I would always watch it every Saturday night on toonami and it's been 10 years when the last season finish back in 2012 and I'm glad it's coming back because bleach is apart of my childhood

I always loved the English VAs for ulquiorra, aizen, and shinji. I feel like they fit the characters perfectly
You know, you can laugh about getting old and maybe its not same energy, vibe of voice of the character, but since soooo much stuff happened in story, characters are getting old too, they develop, so its even more natural to slightly show this difference by voice. On purpose or not (because of age), you can just feel this, cant describe this but feel it.

I remember watching Bleach through the English Dub first. I unironically enjoyed it even after I started watching the JP dub. Whenever I think of Ichigo I always think of his English voice.
