It is called as type 1.5 diabetes. At first their pancreas functions properly but over the time the cells of pancreas is destroyed by our own immune system autoimmune later part of life thus called as Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults or LADA diabetes. I think keto works at initial stage. If started earlier we can stop immune system further damaging pancreas. Kasturba medical college Mangalore
Thanks for your valuable time. I think I've been given the run around about my conditions. Last March I woke up to double vision. It only bothered me when I was driving. Day two I didn't need to keep my bad eye closed, my muscles wouldn't let me open it until Memorial day. Saturday I noticed that I could see better through my "bad" eye than the other. Since last April I told myself it's time to jump on another wagon. This time it's sugar, sweets, pasterys, white rice, bread. No fruit juices, no sugary sodas, no "diet" sodas. No sun dried foods, granola / energy bars. I've lost 13 pounds and I'm down to 157 @ 5' - 7". You suggested to your viewers to purchase some books on dieting. Bought, but not read. Once again, thanks for going out of your way and sharing these valuable information.
Please do something on skinny diabetics. Am on low carbs and don't want to lose anymore weight, but it's the only diet that keeps my sugar from spiking
5 years ago my exam found me with blood glucose of 268, and another test with an A1C of 10.8. Started Keto that day, in 3 months A1C 6.8, another 3 months 5.9, and for the last 4.5 years I've never been 6 or higher. My Doc said I tested insulin resistant. I have never used any meds, accept I needed to boost iodine to help my thyroid. All this I hear you talk about and I know your accurate. Thanks for helping so many people! I might add something nobody is talking about, since I've been on my Keto diet- 5 years- I have not had a cold or the flu... is that weird or lucky, or???
@@D_gas_bob Is it possible to hit Hba1c 8.0 due to covid and then get lower than 6.4 and find out that I am prediabetic but not diabetic, I don't have thyroid problems though
This is exactly what happened to me. Spent a year trying to treat type 1 with metformin!!! The misdiagnosis was something I had to figure out for myself via on line research. My Dr refused to consider that someone in their mid forties could become a type 1. Even though I was a healthy weight and ate a very healthy diet. I got a new Dr 😊
MODY 4 here. Of course misdiagnosed at age 16 as T1, then T2, then LADA.....participated in a family study with Joslin Diabetes center where we found my mom is diabetic. Both sides riddled with diabetes. T1 in my mom's sister. Supposed T2 in my dad, most of his brothers and his mom. Took until age 40ish for DNA testing to catch up with what we suspected all along. We have four generations of this type of diabetes in the family, so we long suspected MODY. Doctors gave a quick "that's so rare" evaluation and dismissed the notion for two decades. TWO. Also got the same answer when I turned up with mitochondrial problems. That's so rare!!! WES testing revealed MODY 4, one of the rarest of the rare diabetes. It's only rare until you have it. These diseases are not as rare as thought, they're just not being looked for or acknowledged. Now we know that at least three of the MODY variants also cause mitochondrial dysfunction, those being MODY 1, 3 and 4. I didn't get struck by two exceedingly rare issues, one simply caused the other. Sad and discouraging that I had to push for decades to get the answers for myself.
Thank you for the tip. I was diagnosed with type 2 a few weeks ago and put on tablets the same day. I’m 45, very active and with a BMI that puts me officially in the ‘underweight’ zone. My doctor did not explain why he diagnosed type 2 but I feel too intimidated to ask.
I have MODY 3, my daughter was genetically tested and this type of MODY runs in my family. I'm a nurse and most doctors, with the exception of a few good endocrinologists, don't understand these types of diabetes. I was diagnosed with diabetes as a teen as was my daughter and nephew but never treated correctly. Thank you for this video, you're one of the few who mention these other types of diabetes.
I've never heard of MODY and LADA until today. I am 36. I was diagnosed type II at 14. After hearing this. I think I might be MODY. Considering my c-peptide has always indicated that my body produces lower levels of insulin. But as I've gotten older, sensitivity has decreased. Wow... Thanks doc!
I have also learned that although I have a family history of both (a maternal aunt with type 1) and most other maternal family members type II, in all cases it can be linked to their poor diets, passing a certain age (metabolic syndrome) and getting morbidly obese followed by all the other damage their diets have created. I myself have been diagnosed "Pre Dietbetic" with my highest A1c to date being 5.7 (it's at 5.1 now)... That however was due to my sedentary lifestyle (cared for a disabled aunt who was prone to falls) and weighing 310lbs at 5'10"... Not to mention getting frustrated because I ate zero fat, whole grain, and followed the SAD Guidelines given by the nutritionist. SAD is DEFINATELY an appropriate description for it. Because I could not lose or maintain any weight loss. Am fairly certain I am near or at being fully fat adapted since I changed to a Keto lifestyle back in April. My sugar cravings are a distant memory and I have lost 50 lbs... My belly fat has diminished considerably as well. Anyway... Its IMPORTANT to know "YOU" and to be aware and never assume your doctor knows everything... Because if they did? There would be no need for doctors who "Specialize"... Never be afraid to ask your doctor "Why" or "What Else" or my favorite... Is this going to just treat the symptom? Or does it address the actual cause of the problem? You might just be surprised to learn that most times? It's just treating the symptom and doesn't address the cause...
32 years ago, I was misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Taking 6 different medications by mouth and mixing insulins, I couldn’t get a doctor to listen or believe me that I was doing everything right but still having high blood sugars. No doctor would understand or help me. Through Dr. Berry in another video, I learned about the c-peptide test, which my doctor did upon my request, showing .3% which I thought was not normal. But my doctor did not address it. I continued to struggle. This past year, I FINALLY found a doctor who listened and believed me, did the proper testing, only to find that I am not a Type 2 but a Type 1. I’ve had so many close calls over the years that it’s a miracle I’m still alive…and the times I went to the ER, it surprises me that none of the doctors recognized that I was a Type 1. They in fact gave me an IV, when I asked what was in it, the nurse said, “sugar water.” Still believing I was a Type 2, sugar water should never have been given to a Type 2 either. Now that I finally have a terrific doctor who did the proper testing, changed my insulins and prescribed a CGM, my a1c has now been between 6.1 and 6.0 and I no longer feel like a zombie. It’s been so long trying to get a doctor to listen and understand, I’ve forgotten what it feels like to feel normal. Last blood work, my average sugar reading for the past 3 months was 118. Praise God. My prayers were finally answered. Thank you, Dr. Berry for educating us with your videos so that we can keep on pursuing in finding a doctor who will listen and believe us. To anyone else out there who has been through the ringer like I have, keep on trying until you get a doctor who will listen, believe and sincerely help you.
Just before turning 60, my older sister told me she was pre-diabetic, making her the 3rd generation from both sides with this. As an ICU nurse, I independently arranged to have my labs drawn. A1c slightly elevated, fasting glucose slightly elevated, insulin sensitivity very high, and insulin level low normal. Huh! Made a Dr appt. and negotiated a Kraft assay. That showed reactive hypoglycemia. GP sent me to Endo after. that. Endo added antibodies to the next set of tests only after I pointed out the abnormalities in the ones I had drawn. Results, very early LADA. Without MY persistence and demands, I would not have been diagnosed or I would have been diagnosed as type 2. The odd thing is that no one in my family has been overweight when diagnosed. Now I wonder if we were/are all LADA. Just for “fun”, most type 1’s are actually diagnosed after childhood. The difference is that children get all sorts of support from family, organizations, camps, schools, etc. They even get a teddy bear from one of the organizations. Adults get nothing. We are basically told to go and figure it out for ourselves. Yes, Dr Bernstein’s book is a Godsend, even though my Endo still gets a disparaging voice at each appt when she says, Oh, you’re still doing that keto/low carb thing. Each appt, my A1c is lower than the one before. Go figure. Not on insulin, yet, but my plans to retire are trashed because of the cost of diabetic supplies. Insurance won’t pay for my Libre or testing strips. Everything is out of pocket. To me, it’s worth it since I don’t want to find out that my beta cells are totally defunct via DKA, but that’s just me. Without an accurate diagnosis, I would not be nearly as vigilant about my glucose levels and food choices.
You are awakening lately please don't put India under shame when so many docs in South India already doing since 2016. I myself from Kasturba medical college Mangalore
Thanks for another informative video Dr. Berry. I had asked my Dr. about a c-peptide test. She said she only does them for people with worse numbers than me. I was diagnosed as type 2 and take 2 different meds. But thanks to your help, my a1c is down to 6.5. Still working to lower it.
@@pamelapati1219 she probably will. I wasn't insistant about it at all. I really like my PCP. I don't want to go to anyone else unless it's Dr. Berry. I don't see that happening anytime soon. 😊
The C-peptide is almost never checked. I was diagnosed with T1D using exactly what you described at the beginning, they saw I was 11 years old and my HBA1C was high so they immediately diagnosed me with T1D. I've had T1D for almost 20 years and to this day I've never received a C-peptide test, in fact I discovered that this test existed in the last year.
Diabetes is diagnosed with fasting sugar blood tests or with A1c blood tests, also known as glycated hemoglobin tests. A fasting blood sugar test is performed after you have had nothing to eat or drink for at least eight hours. Normal fasting blood sugar is less than 100 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/l).
A friend of mine was tested at 0.8 mmol/l. That explained a lot. He now eats packaged garbage "food" constantly and only has the problems when he forgets to eat. He hasn't bothered with tests to find out the root cause.
Me too. During my last pregnancy I was treated bad and was even told I was going to harm my baby because of eating. Come to find out my body isn't making insulin. Even on keto my bs shoots up.
Yep. I am 6'2" tall and went in almost in DKA with very high blood glucose. I weighed in at 118lbs. No one asked me what I weighed a few months before. They gave me a prescription for metformin and sent me home.
Hi Dr. Berry! I believe I was misdiagnosed with gestational diabetes. After being following keto and carnivore restrictly for the 6 months before become pregnant, my doctor required for me to do the one hour glucose test. I had to drink that yucky sugary drink even though I knew it would be really hard for me to process all that sugar since it had been 6 months no sugar in my body. Of course the results came altered. My dr said I had gestational diabetes and I would need treatment. She sent me to talk to a righ risk pregnancy doctor wich would prescribe me medicine. When I went to talk to the doctor I said to him: hello, nice to meet you, with all due respect, before you go ahead prescribing me drugs, I would like to share with you my history of eating and life style. I also mentioned that I would like the tests that I heard in your UA-cam videos, a1 and c peptide. I mentioned to him about the dawn fenome and etc. After hearing me quietly he said: "you are a really well informed women, who know how your body works and what is best for you.(which I give credits all to your youtube videos) . He said he would accept for me to keep monitoring my glucose after meal before he really decided for medicine. Which it was a great decision. Because eating meanly carnivore, my blood glucose is completely normal, between 70 and 90 and I don't need drugs. Just a conscious carnivores, keto proper way of eating. Thank you Dr. Berry
I've been being treated as a type 2. I asked for a c peptide test because of your videos and my peptides were low. If it was for you I would have continued being mistreated and kind of a little bit blamed for my high blood sugars even though I eat pretty low carb.

Can’t get my 93-yo father’s physician to test him for diabetes, have tried for years. He has signs and symptoms, but they won’t treat him for it, nor give him dietary advice.
Yup lots of places you can order online. But also you can just finger prick him several times over a few week period and see what that shows. Very affordable to do this just by getting a meter from Walmart or amazon.
Wow! Going to call my husbands New Endocrinologist and ask for this test. As we can not get hubbys sugar under control even on keto. He has spikes. And going on insulin in 2 weeks. I think he should be tested before insulin.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in April. I started intermittent fast thanks to you and Jason Fung. I have lost 16 pounds. But now it seems im at a stopping point with weight reduction. What can I do?
Doc, you`ve saved my life twice this month! Thank you! I started carnivore diet 3 weeks ago for i`ve watched your 30 day challenge, and lost 41 lbs :) but today, it was a high carbs day for me for it was my son`s B-Day and I ate so much carbs i`m feeling so bad! About diabetes... i`ve never had that test you mentioned and I had 5 different specialists saying i`m type 1 & type 2 diabetic. I take 4 tabs of Metfomin 500mg / day, 3 insuline shots + 1 slow before bed. I don`t see much changes, my blood sugar is high, even when I fast and drink only water... Do you reccomend anything?
I had normal c-peptide levels, but GAD autoantibodies which is how I found out that I have LADA. With all do respect, we do need c-peptide test, but we need a GAD autoantibody test as well. Get both!
I was misdiagnosed as a T2d. Turnes out I have LADA. I had to insist that a c-peptide test be done. They also did an antibody test. I flunked both tests. I am now on insulin and getting the worst blood glucose readings I have ever had. I feel lost and angry. I don't know what is going on or what to do. If things are not going the way you think they should be...INSIST ON MORE TESTS YOU MAY NOT BE T2D!

I was mis-diagnosed as having type 2. Despite a low carb diet I could not get my fasting levels down. Year after year I had diabetic check-ups and each time I begged the Doc to consider if I had type 1... after all I already had 9 Autoimmune diseases so it wouldn't be unlikely and each time they were very clear it was not possible. Last year I must have irritated him enough he looked to see what the antibody test result was to shut me up and of course they had failed to test for antibodies. At last I had that test. Result, Anti-GAD was over 2000. I reckon I had it 15 years ago. All that damage. I am gutted.
I am so sorry to hear that! My 10 year old son got diagnosed with type 1 diabetic last year base on his blood sugar and a1c range. It was a huge shock and sadness for all of us. We did not even know such a disease exists..I wanted to make sure they diagnosed him correctly so after educating my self I asked them to do a autoantibodies blood test and guess what I was told by the doctor!!! "For sure he is type1diabetic and no need for those type of blood tests since they are super expensive and they can cost the insurance a lot"!!!!!! I was super angry, we are talking about my son's health and that stupid person is telling me how much this test is going to cost. My dr never thought to check this, been type 2 for 10 years. And I then I asked him to run, and mine was indeed 3.5, at the higher end of tru type 2. In fact showing I can make probably too much insulin, hence my insulin resistance. His only answer was "well you cant make insulin like you were 20 again" . I let it go but now seeing DR Robert Cywes remotely do do the real fine tune I need. Been keto, now carnivore alone 14 months. Still on metformin but thats all and glucose ramping down all the time.
Thank you Dr Ken Berry for sharing such a vital piece of information in this video. My doctor had assumed my diabetes as type 2 and with the medication he prescribed I was losing weight. In fact I went from a healthy 58kg (I am 165cm tall) to my present weight of 43 kg. Based on this video I got my Fasting C-peptide tested and rightly so the value was 0.57ng/mL(against a normal range between 0.81 and 3.85). Then I got a GAD65 Antibody test and that indicated Negative. Hence it is clear that I am having MODY type diabetes. My present HbAiC is 8.6 and Insulin Fasting is 1.30 uU/m. I have already switched over to a healthy keto low carb diet 3 months back. At present Liver function test, Kidney Function test and my Thyroid tests are all normal. Scary , scary that a Doctor would assume the type of diabetes their patient would have ! You would think if a type 1 Diabetic is getting medication for type 2 diabetes and the sugars are still out of control with a regulated diet , further investigations would be done ! Really if a primary physician is either not comfortable or uncertain of treating a patient with diabetes , they would refer the patient to Endocrinology ! I agree that the GP , is responsible to recognition of an issue and continued care ! But if the patient is not responding to current treatment , seek a consultation !
I am an adult confirmed type 1 back at age 32 (confirmed with 2 separate C-peptide test) however, I have for many years tried to tell my doctors that I am like a type 2 as well. They strongly corrected me every time saying I can not say that, you can Only be one type. Well, after their suggestions on conventional diets and exercise plans with no results I found LCHF and later Keto and fasting. Guess what works for me? :D So now down 3 sizes of clothes, taking half the insulin I was on, and feeling better than ever, with doctors puzzled by my blood works being so good. One day I will again be insulin sensitive. Hope you will make a video about us T1:s that are insulin resistant. I bet, since our bodies cant dose out that insulin by itself there are other things happening with the insulin that we take and how the body reacts to that? And tips on how to work out what things to try? Thank you!
According to my endocrinologist, it's a screw up in my genetics. They are still trying to figure it out. I feel better when I don't eat. Anything. If I have carbs I have to have insulin.
I’m a retired acute care BSN, RN and I have a question. Why is a fasting insulin level not sufficient? Is it because it can be variable like a fasting blood sugar? Does the C-Peptide give one an estimate of insulin production over a longer period of time?
I was misdiagnosed for years. 6 months ago my doctor gave me a test and it came back positive for MODY5. I still do not understand how that changes anything. I am still required to take insulin. I have 4 grown children will this affect them? Do you have any resources for this type. I was told it is a rare form, is this true?
We need to use as little insulin as possible. The more insulin we use, the more our diabetes progresses. The goal is to get rid of all the ineffective body-produced insulin we are swimming in. (hyperinsulinemia). Type 2 Diabetes does not have to be progressive.
Andy Taylor I’ve lost a lot of weight cutting down on carbs for sure I can say that, I don’t eat like I used to and life is good I’ve lost 15 pound in. A few months i lisen to my body and whe. I’m craving meat that is a good thing ☺️
What are the numbers for c-peptides? Husband was diagnosed with T1D then we moved and the new endo says he is not. But no mention of c-peptides checked.
I'm 29 yo and have a have a hx of 2 prior autoimmune diseases. I asked my PCP and Endo if they thought my diabetes and out of control/unpredictable blood sugar was related and they both told me no. I'm assuming that because I am overweight, not by thatt much, and have a strong family hx of T2DM they automatically assumed the same for me. I was questioning it because no matter how I ate (I'm a dietitian, so I *know* what to do), or which meds I was put on didn't work- initially metformin then sulfonyurea. Then I was put on ozempic/rybelsus and farxiga. Then my Endo finally told me she ran a GAD65 and my test determined the level to be >25000 and that I was actually LADA. She wants me on a strict low carb diet and taking the same meds without the sulfonyurea, but I am fighting her to start insulin just because the mental aspect has me jacked up. I can't enjoy life, eat an apple, or basically breathe without my sugar going up. I suffer from major dawn phenomenon that causes my sugar to shoot up to 180 in the am and give me headaches that last until noon. I know this is long, but my point is if you think something is not right with your diagnosis then speak up! I never would have been tested for antibodies if I didn't speak up.
No. 5.9 insulin would be a wonderfully low value for a type 2. It could be type 2 but generally, insulin goes up in a type 2 BEFORE blood glucose goes up. Insulin resistance. Type 1 develops over time. Many have a long, degrading period of "sufficient" insulin production. We call it the "Honeymoon period". You could be a type 2 but I would look into this more closely and monitor blood glucose. Get a meter and some test strips.
@@paulpladin9590 Thank you. Yes I have a meter and test strips I've been a diagnosed Type ll for 11 years. But have always had a heck of a time getting my numbers down, even with Keto the last 3 years. The only time it really went down significantly is when my Endo put me on Invokana, which we all know is poison and I have been off that for 5 years. I take Metformen 1000 2X day. That doesn't really seem to impact me at all. Not even sure I should keep taking it. I Check my BG 2-3 times a day. I'm now Carnivore in my 4th week. Hoping to get my numbers down. Meat and water. I sometimes feel that what is working for everybody else is not working for me. So something must be off in me that I haven't identified yet. But i'm in it for the long haul and hoping for the best.

QUESTION! i have had symptoms of diabetes, even landing me super sick at a few points. recently, many blood tests were done including a1c, which resulted at 5.2. my doctor then said i was completely fine based off of that test but i have still been running high sugar (about 120 after 9 hour fastings, and 140-190 2 hours after meals). lastly, a couple weeks ago i was out with friends, ate a meal and drank two alcoholic beverages, within a few hours i got super sick and shakey. turns out my sugar was at 62. could there be a possibility of something else, besides diabetes that she or I am not catching onto? i just feel as if my numbers aren’t totally normal especially for my symptoms when i have them. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you!
I would say definitely blood sugar issues, it probably rises and then all of a sudden drops way to fast, my suggestion is go on keto, I was diabetic for around 15-20 years and nothing helped me more then keto, I tried carnivore a few different times and it just didn't work for me, but try it see what works for you,
You should have the C-peptide test... & get another doctor if she won’t do it. You’re doing permanent damage to the smaller blood vessels when your blood sugar skyrockets & you could die from low blood sugar.
Yes. Very different. C peptide is a marker/value of how much insulin your pancreas has made recently - in about the last 48 hours. Highly Sensitive C-Reactive Protein is a marker/value of how much inflammation you have. It's usually checked as part of a liver check-up.
If you go keto IF and your blood sugars A1c of 14 drops to a pre-diabetic doesn't that mean you're a type 2 anyway or am I wrong? I haven't been able to get it out of pre-diabetes yet, I'm still working on it.
I was misdiagnosed at 8 year's old at Kaiser. I was originally type 2 and on glipizide with lantus at night until I was 12 and in the beginning it did work . After that I started insulin full time and still had the diagnosis of type 2 but they said type 2 insulin dependent . They even told me for a good few years I could mix novolog and lantus at night even though on the bottle it says not to. It wasn't until I was around 17 and many doctors and a different insurance later that I was told I'm type 1 because my pancreas doesn't make insulin. I don't remember if the endocrinologist told me that was the test but I'm assuming it was that.
In my case it was quite clear, my insulin was far above the roof. First time ever a doctor asks to check this in my blood test. I had just moved to the US, so I had to change my doctor. I guess I'm fortunate, he's young and I guess still open minded and motivated enough to keep up with the science. Probably the fact that he is an OD instead of an MD has something to do with that too. He just saw it coming: I was in my forties, severely overweight (no blood test needed to know that), and when I first came in his clinic it has because I needed a prescription for my high blood pressure. Looking backwards, I think the only thing that could have been a better indicator of insulin resistance was having a tatoo in my forehead saying "Insulin resistant", and I had been like that for years. My blood glucose was just above normal limit (101), like it has been for about a decade, no other doctor gave it importance, in spite of all the other obvious signs. So he ordered to check vitamin D, A1c, insulin, this other test that is mentioned in this video, and after the results he had me done an OGTT, which was what finally clarified the diagnosis of T2D. I guess I had just gone one step beyond prediabetes. An even more shocking, when they had the results of the OGTT, they gave me a call and told me "you are diabetic. Stop eating sugar, bread, pasta and rice". Never, ever, I got this kind of advice from a doctor or nurse before, they just told me "you need to lose weight, lower your calories, exercise" (as useful as if they had told me I needed to have sex with Scarlet Johanssen). I obviously freaked out and arranged another appointment to clarify it all, which was very helpful. I have mixed feelings now. On the one hand I feel very fortunate, because this doctor managed to detect my problem when the damage was still very limited, and pointed me the right direction to go. Thanks to him I also knew what to look for in internet, and I found a ton of info I would have never found. I'm doing IF and now keto, and I lost 60 lb so far. On the other hand, I wonder how all the doctors I had in the last 15 years (they have been a few, I moved a few times) missed this.
My experience is that all type 1s are first misdiagnosed as type 2. The sin is in how long this misdiagnosis stands...A day or 3 months or until you are admitted into the ICU with DKA. And it is so unnecessary. The tests doctors perform are to detect the much more common and assumed type2. It seems that type 2 is assumed unless proven otherwise. Just getting something as simple as fasting insulin would tell them a lot if it was low with diabetic symptoms. Type 2's generally have insulin resistance and high insulin. A low insulin result would make them question their assumption but I have not ever heard of a case where this was checked at diagnosis let alone, the better C-peptide. But they are taught that diabetes (in general) is a blood sugar condition. It isn't. Both are insulin dis-regulation problems with night and day differences...if you look for them.
I was a Marine in my 20s and my nurse said I had type 2. She put me in for a C-pep test and turns out I have LADA. I’m in the honeymoon period. I take 1000mg metformin and 10units Lantus. All I take. Did a high intensity workout in the morning (fasting) shot my blood glucose to 160. When I lift it lowers it to 80. You rock doc. I’m hoping with keto, fasting, and exercise I can extend my honeymoon period until a tubeless closed loop system hits the market with an app. The idea of wearing two patches and having a phone app to replace my pancreas is futuristic and badass!
Dear Dr. Berry, I am not sure if you will see this but I hope you do. I have been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic for 13 years. 6 years ago I had a c-peptide test and proved I was type 2 and eventually landed up on insulin which I did not tolerate well due to side effects. Since then I have been trying to deal with my type 2 with fasting, and eating a very low carb diet with on and off insulin and oral medication therapy but have consistently had high blood sugars, A1C of 11+. In Feb 2022, I went into a diabetic coma (ketoacidosis confirmed) which lasted for 5 days and upon waking I had no short term memory and I was told that I was a type 1. This didnt make sense to me but no one could answer why this happened. No blood tests were done to confirm type 1 but I left the hospital with that diagnosis. Then when I finally was able to attend the diabetic clinic in April 2022 the doc said I was definately a type 2 because of my c-peptide test which was done 6 years ago. I am in Canada and our system is weak when it comes to ongoing chronic issues, but finally I was given the req to go and get another c-peptide done - and I was given it only because I wanted it, not because the doc felt it was necessary to re-check. I will find out the results next week. If I am a true type 2, then why would I go into a ketoacidosis coma? Thank you for your help.

Had never heard of this before. Thanks for posting about it!
Most don't until they end up in the intensive care unit with Diabetic KetoAcidosis.
I asked my doctor and he okayed the test for me! Going next week! Thanks for the information!
I was ignored or misdiagnosed for 15. No one would believe my word. Finally 2months after I spent a week in the hospital with Diabetic ketoacidosis
I was diagnosed as LADA. 1.5
That’s terrible !
I am so grateful to come across this information!

Hi Dr.

Why is it bad to eat very little sugar shouldn’t we be using our insulin? An avocado raises it a little bit
Carbohydrates uses insulin.
Andy Taylor we gotta use the right carbs and less carbs
What are the numbers for c-peptides? Husband was diagnosed with T1D then we moved and the new endo says he is not. But no mention of c-peptides checked.
1.1−4.4 ng/mL is considered a normal range by LabCorp. Type 1 diabetics will have C-Peptides from 0.0-0.3 typically
Can that number be artificially low if one is already on keto ? Will it be accurate if you are already eating low carbs ? Thanks !
Very informative thx! Next lab will ask for it. During Keto down from 6.1 to 5.5. Still trying to get a bit lower
Thank u
Following u from algeria 🇩🇿😍
Still waiting on your new t shirt logo... " Come at me bro I'm CARNIVORE "😂😂😂 🐂🍗💪🙆
My C-peptide is 1.82 and insulin is 5.9 Does that confirm me as a Type ll?
@@gailchafe8746 I guess I assumed you were on your way up to diabetes rather than down from it. Sorry. Keep up the good work, My wife is a serious type 2 and we have managed to get her fasting insulin down from 25 to 17 to 12 and I hope well under 10 in the next draw. It sounds to me like you are on the right track.
QUESTION!
i have had symptoms of diabetes, even landing me super sick at a few points. recently, many blood tests were done including a1c, which resulted at 5.2. my doctor then said i was completely fine based off of that test but i have still been running high sugar (about 120 after 9 hour fastings, and 140-190 2 hours after meals). lastly, a couple weeks ago i was out with friends, ate a meal and drank two alcoholic beverages, within a few hours i got super sick and shakey. turns out my sugar was at 62. could there be a possibility of something else, besides diabetes that she or I am not catching onto? i just feel as if my numbers aren’t totally normal especially for my symptoms when i have them. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@KenDBerry If a patient c-peptide is 2.2 and has fasting insulin is 5uIU/ml. What will be the type
Plz replay I need more info on this
C peptide....is that different from HS C- reactive protein ?
yes
I haven't been able to get it out of pre-diabetes yet, I'm still working on it.
does A1C cover peptides in the test
No They’re separate. A1c measures glucose over time and C-pep can tell you much insulin is rockin’ when you eat carbs.
@@Yellowlabratory thanks for the feed back
I was misdiagnosed at 8 year's old at Kaiser.
So I have a cousin who said she is T1.5 but I have never heard of that.
Is this test valid if taking insulin shots?
Yes
Please tell me what happened since you wrote this a year ago.
@@pearlyq3560, my endocrinologist has diagnosed me with type 1.5 (LADA). This makes sense to me now.

This video helped me a lot. I'm seeing my doc next week so going to tell her. Thanx.
