GD is literally once in a lifetime kind of artist. So much talent and charisma.... Truly the first influencer..... Trendsetter....he started the Idol Producer, and getting brand endorsements and attending Fashion Shows..... Started the lightsticks in kpop by designing it. Too many to list....too precious.
There's a reason why G-DRAGON is called the King Of Kpop.
he’s the real musician. a rapper, singer. composer and producer. all BIGBANG songs was made by him.
90% idols nowadays idolised him and Taeyang. he set the standard so high for VIPs.
The more i listen to them as a group and their solo's man what a time it was for groups dropping the sametime they were haha that is like dropping on the same day as drake you can't do that. I mean I am infuenced by his hardwork to take care of everything and do it as a high level. Now i am inspired to do the same with reactions and other areas of my life. Thank you for sharing that! Coz they knew BIGBANG would obliterate their album or songs. . . And those who dared to release their songs on the same day BIGBANG did, their songs will not reach the #1 spot or even the TOP 10 in music charts. . .coz BIGBANG dominates it. . . So long as BIGBANG dominates the #1 spot, others can only take #2 and below spots. That is if BIGBANG released 1 song not an entire album. If it was an entire album all at once, TOP 10 will be filled with BIGBANG songs so those who dared can only take TOP 11-20 spots. . .Only those artists with massive fandom or massive fame can insert their songs in the TOP 10, breaking the streak. But even famous artists were having a hard time dominating the charts against BIGBANG. Getting only 1 or 2 songs out of their entire album. Even having 2 songs inserting/breaking the BIGBANG streak was already an achievement. Coz usually, it's only just 1 song that did it. That's how dominating BIGBANG was in the music industry. 🤣🤣🤣
GD is the true all rounder/ace in k-pop. He's known as one of the best rappers in k-pop. His singing voice is unique with full of emotions and he wrote and produce almost every bigbang songs and all of his solo songs. He is also the biggest fashion icon in Asia. I can talk about GD for hours...
Ace for sure! I knew he could rap and heard about his singing but after watching this I can't believe how powerful and strong he is as an artist. You can tell he really put the hours in to perfect his craft. The emotion's part is what got me. Every lyric he sang was believable and he made me feel like I was going through it with him. Not many people can honestly do that. What is a song by G-dragon where he had some cool or crazy fashion? I got to see this lol

I don't think there's anyone in the K-pop industry who has a unique voice like GD's.
His voice is so raspy when he sings, and I really love his flow when he raps. He's perfect. No wonder he's called the king of K-pop.

I don’t think any new Kpop fans or any fans AFTER big bang, will ever understand GD’s influence.
BIGBANG was massive because they even had non-Kpop listeners fans of their music. Their fan base had a large male percentage, which is unusual for a kpop group. They took the entire continent of Asia by storm.
GD was one of the first Kpop idols to write and produce music - had wrote the biggest hits for BIGBANG (23 of them hit #1 on the Gaon Digital Chart). He started his career early at 6, and was in a hiphop group inspired by Wu Tang Clan. Outside of his musical achievements, he was THE fashion icon. Whatever he wore would sell out instantly. Not to mention he was the first Asian male Chanel ambassador and he still rubs shoulders with the Chanel creative director quite often.
If you google him, you’ll see he was in the news for quite a number of scandals. He’s probably the only Korean idol that could go through as much negative spotlight and make it out unscathed. There’s a reason why GD is so loved by Korea and much of Asia. He is just too influential. I won’t say anything else but let you discover on your own why GD is so special. I don’t think the Kpop industry still has anyone that comes close to his impact that he had at their peak.
CAP I am a new Kpop fan love and I would say i may not understand the influence as much as someone else who has been a fan since day one but i can tell you that through what peopled have shared and watching his lives you definitely can see the influence. Even in new Kpop groups today you can see GD's influence in the way they rap, sing, their lyrics, and videography. His influence is crazyyy and I hope we can go out in the world and create positive influence as well. I meant it was a lot of fun to live thru it- I’ll give you an example. Growing up in America in the 2000s, you didn’t tell people that you listened to Kpop. Heck, even anime got made fun of but look how cool people realize it is now! But when BIGBANG was popular in Asia, some of their popularity trickled to the States. It was wild to see guys at school dressing similar to BB, having their hairstyles, learning their choreo…when I went to the Alive concert in NJ back in 2012…to see thousands of fans of ALL different backgrounds be able to sing along to every word of Haru Haru in KOREAN? It was a beautiful thing. If it was like that in the US, can you imagine how it was in Korea!

Talk about pain…This song is truly heartbreaking for most VIPs. GD was all set to release the song Bullsh!t but decided it was inappropriate because TOP had tried to unalive himself, so this was the song GD released instead. So every time I hear this song it brings back the trauma from that. 😭😭😭 It is a beautiful song tho.

True. If I'm not mistaken, this was the time when TOP's drug scandal was brought up by the media while he was in the military. He's gone to deep depression and overdosed some pills. He was in a coma for days. So heartbreaking. 😩😭❤️🩹

G dragon is amazing at everything. Although his raps aren't really appreciated by western fans because his specialty is wordplay. Korean rappers who are amzing at flows translate better. But GD is the only person that can go to a place in Korea where they live and breathe hip-hop and a bunch of rappers will come up to him and say you inspired me to pick up the mic. He could go to a dance studio and a bunch of people will come up to him and say you inspired me to start dancing because he was the first dancer in Korea with swag and his own style and not military precision. He could go to one of the big entertainment companies and a bunch of people will come up to him and say you inspired me to become a singer. He's just GD. There's a video someone made where they put quotes of famous people who love and respect GD the videobis 30 minutes long.
That gave me chills cause i can only imagine what that feels like. To dedicate your life to your art and people be inspired by it. Even in America there a few people that can Act, sing, and dance at the highest level in each of them. So for GD to be able to inspired people in Korea to dance, sing, rap and with his fashion like is actually crazy! That got me fired up to go and work hard to inspire people the way that GD inspires the people in his country
I think GD moved his real rapper role to TOP because GD was the rapper since 13 years old before debute with BIGBANG.

While GD is very humble, I think his lack of confidence with his singing voice is tied not only to his identity as a rapper, but to the absolutely amazing vocal qualities of his band mates. Everyone was taught to never brag and always be humble, of course. When in conversation, to express one’s own inadequacy and insecurity publicly is to show humility and bring yourself closer to your audience. It also allows the chance for the other side to dismiss your self-deprecation and give you the praise you deserve. It’s just a dance of social etiquette. It does not necessary mean the person lacks confidence. I know you’re an American and you might find this jarring and unnecessarily complicated. Since you’re living in Japan knowing the difference between a person “showing inadequacy” and actually “feeling inadequate” might be beneficial to you socialising with local people. Apologies for the long rant btw 😅 Keep up with the good work!
I love this comment! Thank you I would say "Asian culture" is maybe too broad to say. I would say that in the japanese and korean culture that is normally the case. I don't think it is a misinterpretation, but I will say it mostly stems from the value of showing humility and bringing themselves closer to their audience. I agree with you that it is a social etiquette that a westerner may not understand and find it complicated. i take responsibility in that. Yes, I think both of you guys "get it" (based on the above 2 comments), but may I please add that there is also the additional factor of needing to show the desire & willingness to be constantly working towards one's own growth & improvement, because it does not matter how great you are, you can't ever really be considered so perfect that there is no more work that you can still do, to be even better....
I'm pretty sure, historically, it mostly stems from Korea's deeply rooted, very strong beliefs and ties to Confucian philosophy. Although nowadays, I think it's most readily seen when it comes to school/academia (including sports, or things such as playing musical instruments, etc.) & work/career/business.
I am not sure how easy it is to truly understand the depth of that concept, if you weren't raised to think that way & believe that your whole life, or if it can really make sense logically to somebody, if they haven't really always felt like that about themselves, but I do hope it can at least help shine a tiny bit more light on to the subject for you. (*I can only speak for myself on this as a Korean, because I'm not really familiar with how Japanese society's beliefs are on this particular matter.)

When it comes to GD's live performance it's hard to pick one favourite, but i would definitely recommend watching Obsession + She's Gone from OOAK Tour, (ua-cam.com/video/QL2K-cqgelM/v-deo.html). These two songs are a part of one storyline, it's dark, crazy and kind of violent. GD really shows what it means to act on stage and what stage presence is, he just becomes a mad man in this one. The lyrics tell a story that id scary and even murderous in some ways.

Some people had noticed that if you add GD's birthdate up it comes to 2014 08+18+1988=2014.
GD writes music and lyrics and produces most of his own solo work (with other individuals or a team quite often supporting too.) and so I think it comes from what inspires him and this connection to the music comes through in his performance. He us akso talented, orofessional and hardworking and do knows how to deliver too.

He must was locked in everyday just working no days off. I can imagine now why a lot of songs are about heartbreak. I am sure it is hard to be in love when you are making 99% of the groups music on top of everything else he was doing. Liked reaction, thanks. Part way through the mv the clouds behind GD form a V on iur left and a P on our right with GD as the i in the middle - spelling out VIP, BIGBANG's fandom name. BIGBANG never forget their fans and always give appreciation for their success to their fans. This mv was completed within 2 hours even though 2 days were allocated to it. GD has some great music - not all of which has an mv. Everything from the same album as this is soo good. Need lyrics though cos they are integral. The album is all about him as the person Kwon Ji-yong (name of album.) Eng subscare worth it, even though some Korean wordplay and culteral references don't translate in full. Thanks for keeping with them.

So it was dope that he integrated VIP into his m/v makes the VIP's feel heard and loved for their dedication to them.

Because GD hasn't returned for so long, fans leave comments here when they miss him. I don't think GD is lack of self-confidence. In Asian culture we are often taught to be humble and not over estimate ourselves.
But saying you are not good at something when you are singing in front of thousands of people and selling out shows sounds like an underestimate. Being humble and not overestimating yourself is a big part of Asian culture but correct me if I am wrong, I feel like it can make some lack confidence...
Actually, I realized for me it is a hard concept to understand for I didn't grow up in that culture. i would say from the outside looking in it seems to be a lack of confidence but intrisically that person may not lack it. Thank you for this I will continue to keep an open mind

I guess for Asian culture its not to surpress confidence but more of to express humility. Better be humble than arrogant when you cant back it up. With GD and singing i guess he knows he can sing well but he isnt the "BEST" by his own standard. Man is a damm perfectionist😂. You should see some behind the scenes when they are in recording studios. He'll make you repeat that one line the entire night if he has to.

the way he was able to balance work, success, and chill. he looks cool and chill, but he's totally not -- he has ZERO CHILL when rehearsing/prepping for the stage. also, he was able to lead while still being flawed. a lot of leaders (not only in kpop, but in other aspects of life) try to be or seem to be perfect, but not GD.
GD is as human as possible and showing that it takes hard work and discipline to be great. Finding a balance that works for you with work and success that helps you to reach higher heights. Just talking about him inspires me @@dedmatters
