I love this song, and the way the guitars fade in. It's almost like the water sounds and synth represent safety, comfort - something familiar. And the guitar is the looming, impending darkness (whatever your "darkness" may be). The song starts off in your "safe place", quiet, calm, comfortable. Then the guitars - the darkness - starts to creep in. Slowly but surely getting louder. Closer. You almost feel panicked as it draw nearer. It sounds like danger. At last, it's screaming in your ears. No escape. Eventually you perish, as the song fades away.... I wish more ambient/atmospheric BM songs could paint a story in my mind the way this one does, and some other burzum songs. Thats the way ambien/atmospheric music should be On a side note, any one know of anything similar to this ?
+Spencer Dennis Well I began working on a little personal atmospheric black metal project, check out my latest 2 tracks, while not so professionally made and not as epic as this piece of music, I hope you might be able to enjoy the gloomy atmosphere. *Check out my youtube channel
Man. This is so beautiful. The gradual increasing in the tune of guitar is overwhelming. I started to love Black Metal since I listened to Filosofem. Varg is genius
@@MaxAmmo666😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 way too hilarious AND ironic AND somehow saddening. But don't worry, Allah made Heaven fer the believers and the ones doing good deeds.
I wonder what tales this village and landscape could tell. This Video produces such an overwhelming atmosphere, thanks for the upload. it's the perfect location for listening to filosofem. I bet, it's even more atmospheric, to be there in real live.
When I was a teen & the others went to parties to get drunk & dumb, I often took long walks. I brought my walk-man (& a pencil to rewind the cassette without using up the batteries) & I just walked, in rain, in cold, in darkness & alone. I did not participate in the Fall of Man.
This song is like not showering for 2 weeks, only eating peas and drinking dirty water and then one day you go out into the forest at 4 a.m. to just continuously stab yourself in the stomach with a wooden rod until your last breath. But it's good.
there is something so intensely powerful about how this song builds, and you, my friend, captured that essence gracefully. Thank you, and Hail Burzum!!
Amazing how he went from the two first albums to this, because this along with det som engang var is world class, really. He had to loose everything, become a murderer and go to jail to produce this. A tragedy really. But this along with Ildjarn is the only black metal worth hearing. Emperor made in the nightside eclipse which was good but not great. The other bands were fun but nothing that will last. And neither will Burzum, I mean most people will never know. So it will be buried in a forest in Norway with all the memories, and that's how it's supposed to be.
I listen to most of Filosofem every time I fly fish for brown trout, that and a few other tracks, such as Daudi Baldrs; it's a fairly intense experience and I would highly recommend it.
It is situation, when every rich man wants to have modern villa, in these places instead of old building. Fortunately this village is protected by government as ethnographic village, houses and other buildings stands here even from 18th century. And it is not museum, people live here normal live!!!
glorious, eternal and powerful, that in the former lives behind passages, only those able to have that feeling privileged to hear the song of a warrior- X@nBuRzUm - Piracicaba-São Paulo - Brasil
so I think this song also makes a reference to human life, the distorted sound that starts to sound throughout the song, it gets louder, it represents human life, and at the end of the song, the sounds of bones are heard, which means death, because when you will die, your bones will break, the distorted sound that starts to sound louder and louder represents the advancement of age within a human life, this is my opinion about this song.....
@AlgizJ no offense, but in every country in the northern hemisphere in the same climate zone you can find such forests and places.. some people just don't ever leave their cities and go to the forests outside. they just think there's nothing else then steel and grey walls. they would find such settings in nearly every forest.
@DomKoelsch89 Yes, in general you are totaly right. There are a lot of beautifull forests in the same climat zone . But when I write „such places“ I mean ancient villages in these forest. Of course you can find such viliges not only in Lithuania, without doubt in eastern/northen europe you can find even more impressible views. But day to day they are dissapearing, because they stands in beutifull places, forests, near the lakes and rivers.
@AlgizJ Really, it seems little overgrown, well this country sure has its beautiful places, as to country where I live, there is not much of freedom, everywhere's a private land of farmers who grow something.
Part II of THE best song made in the Universe EVER. My favorite for 27 years and counting.

Footage was filmed in south Lithuania, in small, ancient village and surroundings. I suppose it fits to the song's mood very well.
