I'm in AZ, which has been controlled by the GOP for decades. FOR decades, it was effectively ILLEGAL to give WATER to the HOMELESS even in 120F heat. This was eventually struck down by the courts after waves of death of homeless being literally cooked to death, but it's still disgusting that it went that far: NEVER let ANY republican claim that they don't support GENOCIDE.

@@novampires223 It's the sort of EVIL thing that lost the GOP the Governorship this election! 😠
Skeezy politics is, sadly, the norm here: APS Power Monopoly got Rooftop Solar outlawed for about 7 years to protect their profits until they got caught (they were feeding dark money to a PAC... that they started).
Obvious Anti-queer and racist hate crimes go uninvestigated or half-assed investigated, rarely leading to arrests (this is only slightly better now).
A few years ago a cop pinned a man down, drew his gun, put it to the back of the guys head and executed him in a parking lot: no ramifications, no charges.

First, most people aren't republican. They are the minority. But also, there normally aren't these long lines to vote in places where republican voters are going to be voting. Then, before the election we all get our voting papers which can be posted back or we can wait till election day and vote in person (doesn't matter if you lose the papers, you can still vote with id). We all know when the letter is due so fraud is difficult.
This is why it's a silly move by Republicans, our government swaps from left to right still. If you try to deny someone their lawful right to vote you make it likely that they will vote against you for that very reason.

I'm a disabled senior who vote by mail. Before the voter suppression laws were passed here in Georgia, I could request a vote by mail application during the primary. Being disabled, by requesting the ballot during the primary, I would then be sent a mail in or vote by mail ballot for each and each round of voting without having to fill out the application for each vote during the election cycle, primary, election and if a run off was necessary, now they've made it very difficult to vote by mail during the complete election cycle in Georgia. Oh, during the 2020 election, they were going to cancel my right to vote because I moved, same apartment complex, just a different apartment. I had even filed my change of address with them and received my new voter card from them. They sent me the letter informing me that I had a limited time to correct my address or I wouldn't be allowed to vote. The irony is that I had my corrected voter card from the state, and I hadn't missed voting in every election since I moved to GA in 1997. They even tried to claim I hadn't voted for several elections as a means for dropping my voting right.

What a shame that every State doesn't follow suit. I often think that, for every Federal election, there should be Federal voting laws. Laws like the one you described. Laws that every American voter believes is fair.
If States want to introduce voter suppression laws for State elections, then I still find it all disgraceful if there is any voter suppression. Yet, I 4understand that, due to the MAGA Party's incessant whining about the Federal government getting too involved in State affairs.
However, I don't understand why it's so difficult for anyone to understand how much more fair and easier it would make Federal voting by having exactly the same voting laws in every State. Surely this would also help stop all of the excuses that red States keep coming up with to blame cheating, no?
Let's face it, MAGA Republicans, like DeSantis, are happy to take Federal financial aid after a disaster and let the Federal government pay for some other Federal interests.

Here in Australia we vote on a Saturday, and every public school plus some other community halls is a polling place from 8am-6pm. For those who work that day or cannot physically attend there are mail in ballots available up to two months prior, and also we have early polling places open for the week beforehand for anyone who cannot make it on the day. Also if you are out of your area on the day you can go to any polling place and lodge an absentee vote if necessary. We have compulsory voting so this makes it easy for everybody.
