Reading through these comments some more...someone mentioned below that a fiddle was different than a violin. To clarify for some here, a fiddle is simply a slang term for the instrument. A fiddle and a violin are exactly the same thing; he just saw some differently made instruments. The difference between the 2 in musician speak is in the style of music played. Classical, Irish, Scottish, (any "Celtic") , Bluegrass, country, etc. etc.) are all just styles of music, and most "fiddle" players use the term fiddle for their instruments, while it's usually the strictly trained classical musicians who can't seem to use that word. lol. Speaking as someone classically trained for decades... now mostly playing Irish and American fiddle music, It's all good. :) And I bet I say "fiddle" for my violin now more than the other. :)
fiddlemuse you are mostly are right but we don’t use as slang, let’s say we are doing professional work we still don’t call them fiddles, but you are entirely right that it is based on what style you learned and play
They're really very good and we should encourage them to keep working at it. Very impressive. It's nice to see fiddlers who are relaxed and into the "groove". Keep it up and you can be legendary.
I was told this by one of my music teachers so I could be wrong, so I might check sometime. I normally agree with that particular teacher because he has been playing for more than 5 decades. Have a great day.
master gamer 75 FYI tunearch.org/wiki/Annotation:Catharsis I wish I could find the place i first learned about this. there were comments and one was from Amy explaining how she came to write the tune. If I stumble accross it, i will try post.
And I'm pretty sure that it's a fiddle, not a violin. Violins are for classical music, Fiddles are more folk such. Fiddles are also more compact and rounded then a violin, which tends to be rather flat last I checked.

Correct, the violin sing and the fiddle dance
No, there's a difference: Nobody cares if you spill beer on a fiddle.

Tam Lyn is scottish
Many great tunes are Scottish. "Miss McCleod of Rassay" for example. Scottish music is very popular here in Ireland.
But catharsis is a celtic tune good job though
+master gamer 75 Amy Cann the American who wrote it would probably disagree with you.
