- Title: UNROLLING FENCE WIRE HACK TOOL - How to.
Unrolling heavy rolls of field fence on the farm has been a big challenge for us as we do alot of fence work. We researched how to unroll field fence economically and flexibly without breaking our wallet or back in the process. With about $200 and little bit of farm engineering we came up with our own field fence unrolling tool hack for the tractor. With this set up, you are not spending hundreds of dollars on a new tractor implement that is single use. Each component in this setup is multi-purpose which is important for a small farm. And most importantly, it is easy to assemble and wont break your back. The LaLa Farm channel is an informational and educational - how to - DIY - channel that follows the day to day activities happening around LaLa Farm. LaLa Farm is a small, family owned farm located just south of the Florida - Georgia line in Glen Saint Mary, FL (Northeast Florida). We focus on producing small scale marketable farm products, while moving toward food self-sufficiency for our own family. We breed Registered Kiko, Boer, and Nubian goats for market and meat. We raise our own poultry for meat and eggs. We grow seasonal fruits and vegetables and maintain a colony of bees for honey and pollination of our plants. The goal of our UA-cam channel is to educate and share with our customers, followers, and anyone else interested in the homesteading or small farm lifestyle - our approach to managing the little slice of paradise we call LaLa Farm. Our channel, just like the farm, is truly a family endeavor. On any given week, you may see videos from any number of our family members depending upon the topic being discussed. Each of our family members has unique interests and skills that they bring to our farm. We would love to have you join us - the Robinson family - on our self-sufficiency and homesteading journey by subscribing to our channel.

OUR JOURNEY TO THE HOMESTEAD:
LaLa and I (Rick) grew up in a small agricultural region of New York State. LaLa was raised in a dairy farming family and I grew up in a small town. LaLa and I were high school sweethearts, who married in our late teens - and have now been married for over 30 years. We moved to Jacksonville, FL in the mid 1980’s, after being stationed there while serving in the U.S. Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician (I fixed phones). The plan was for LaLa to be a stay at home mom. In the early 90’s I was injured while serving on active duty and I was abruptly discharged from military service. By this time, we had two young children, and it never seemed like there was enough time in the day. LaLa went to work - I went to college - and we somehow found enough time for each other and our family. We always dreamed of having a small farm to raise our kids and our own food. For nearly 20 years, we lived in the city and watched as the city encroached in upon us and grew up around us. In the early 2000’s we moved from Jacksonville, FL to an adjacent and more rural area of Baker County, FL. We eventually found the perfect piece of land to realize our dream of owning our own farm, and in 2015, this dream became a reality - a reality that is today - The LaLa Farm.
Thank you so much. Just finished one km with 330' rolls of game fencing using the bucket on my little Kubota with a version of your system although it did cost $30 for the materials I was lacking.
Thank you for the idea. Already have the pole lift.
I really like the simplicity. I was trying to figure how to roll out over 600 feet of field fencing. Thanks to you I know.
I has worked really well for us. Thanks for watching. - Rick
I was searching for just such a solution and when I saw the chain and 4 x 4 on the ground I went holy cow!!!.....you're a genius! Thank you for such an easy solution to a problem I had thought about all day long yesterday. I don't have a swivel pulley,, but I'm sure I have something I can use around the farm. Going to go put it up now!
Awesome - Let me know how it works out for you. I have used this solution to pull several thousand feed of fence without any hickup. - Happy pulling. - Rick
Worked like a charm....I found an old wheel caster that was missing the wheel. The inside of the fencing got caught because with the materials I had, I put it at the bottom on a bolt. So...an old tube over the setup fixed it perfectly.
Thank you again for the great idea! I subscribed to your site. (I have videos too....meant to be comedy....check out "dagrmast")
Want to thank you for the video, it helped me a lot. I found the pulley but couldn’t find a hook large enough to go through it so I had to substitute. One thing I’ll have to look at is the 4x4. It worked great with a full roll but as it got small it would catch the wire. But overall, outstanding idea. Again thanks.
Thanks for stopping by and watching. It takes a little up and down the tractor to finish up the very end of roll. However if doing it as a team it makes fixing the wire - block kinks pretty easy as one person walks along and one drives. - Rick
LaLa - Yoou are the whole package! Outstanding farm aid and what a head of hair!
Thank you!
Works like a champ, Great idea !
Genius. Thanks
Too simple to be true! This is great thank you!
Clever solution thanks for sharing .
Thank you!!! Ive been fighting with 100’ 8’ rolls and knew there had to be a better way… I was thinking of a saucer they could sit on to push easier but you are way beyond that idea! I think scotch tape will be harder to dispense 😂
I have almost the exact same scenario and have been wondering how to make an inexpensive way to do this.... This is perfect! For sure I'm going to start using this method.
Outstanding!! Glad you found this helpful David. Good luck in your fence install. - Rick
This is going to work great, thanks.
I want to thank you for this very excellent idea. We are in the middle of a winter fence project here at Woody Acres and since I have the components and you had the idea my fence pulling will still happen, barring any further snow fall.
I am really glad you found this useful - I have been using this for about 3 years now and it works like a champ!! Thanks for watching. - Rick
Great idea,
Thank you so much for stopping by and watching. - Rick
Thanks for the setup! I'm working on fencing right now and this was a great idea.
This works like a champ!!! Thanks for stopping by and watching. I have subscribed to you to follow along with your channel. - Rick
A great idea, thanks form posting the clip now its time to buy a good used small tractor.
Thanks for watching!!! It really does work really well. The downside is you do need a tractor. :) - Rick
Wow i love this system..we have to do some more fencing this next year..i am showing hubby ..thank you..
It really does work really well. The best thing that it is not a single use tool!! Thanks for watching. - Rick
Very good
omg this is genius lol
i will attempt to make one and hang off my front loader
Thanks for that idea that is nice
It really works like a champ - thanks for stopping by. - Rick
@@TheLaLaFarm you know when I pull Barb wire or Netwire I set my brace post pull all my wires then drive my t-post I'm the only one that does it backwards like that that I know of if you drive all your t-post and pull Barb wire the barbed wire hangs up on every post seems like so I eliminated that malfunction everybody thinks I'm crazy but it works for me try it sometimes
Thank you for the tip I like it so far
Great idea. Thanks
Thanks Pete for the feedback!!! I really don't like single function tools and could not bring myself to purchasing a single expensive piece of equipment. This solution works like a champ. I we continuously doing cross fencing - and have used this method for all of it. Thanks for visiting the farm. - Rick
Good video
Thanks Michael!
Great idea! Good stuff.
Thanks for stopping by and watching. - Rick
Heck ya i like that thanks for the info. 5 star
Thanks for visiting and for commenting. When we first started with fencing - I thought there surely has be some some easier way. I dont know if it's smart or just good ol' engineering - but is works well. We saw you subscribed so I am pretty sure I did a shout out for your channel at the end of our video that premieres tomorrow.
I know it method doesn’t work well without a swivel so the chain won’t bunch up. I see you have one.
DAMN LOVE IT!!
Thank you!!! It works really well John. - Rick
Hello, I had subscribed earlier, but had forgot to ring the bell. Just found you again on Walsh Farms. I like your idea on spooling out fence.
Well thank for visiting - Walsh Farms is a great channel. I just hate the idea of buying a single use tool so i came up with this spooler idea and it works like a champ!!! Thanks for watching. - Rick
Great video than you
I think you mentioned at the end having to pull it, is that why you can't just attach it to the fence the same time you are unrolling it? It wouldn't be tight enough?
Each run is a multi-step process. After posts and H braces are installed, we then roll out the wire then stretch (pull) it across the run. This keeps the run taut. Over time, and as animals rub up against it, it will stretch. If we didnt stretch it tight at the beginning, it would get far too loose over time. We are doing a series on each step in the process. Some of the videos are already up. We will be putting them in a complete how to playlist about installing sheep and goat fence. Hope you enjoyed it.
Do you ever pull off of the contraption vs attach and drive off? Considering making one of these
Disconnecting it is really no effort at all. Since the boom is operating on the 3 point hitch attachment - it is also really easy to connect and disconnect.
@@TheLaLaFarm thanks but I may have not explained my question well. I meant do you ever park it in one spot, grab the wire, and walk away from the tractor to unroll it? To get the wire between trees where there isn't space for the tractor, for example
Oh OK. Yeah - there is always that project with hiccups, such as going around trees or obstructions. That has to be done manually. I try to avoid such obstructions as much as possible by either moving the fence line or removing obstructions.
@@TheLaLaFarm ok awesome! That answers my question, I was curious if it worked for that. I have a farm fence business and have not figured out a good way to roll sheep and goat fence through dense trees and I'm considering fabricating a standalone or trailer hitch boom like this after seeing your video.
American ingenuity
Thanks!! It is incredible how well this setup works and you dont need a dedicated piece of equipment. We appreciate you stopping by the farm. If you haven't already subscribed - please consider adding us to your subscriptions. Thanks!
Guesin this wouldn't work for 8 foot heavy game fencing...(400+lbs per roll)
When you've unrolled the length....bungie cord the 4x4 to the 3 point hitch and you can tighten the fence......
Thanks for stopping by and watching. We tried 3 different stretching approaches and none worked out well for our application except the dead man post method. - Rick
The pulley link from amazon is not the right one like you had. It does not turn so it will not work.
Thank you for letting me know. It looks like the one I had linked has been discontinued. Here is a reasonable substitute rated at 1,00kg (2200 pounds) which should also work: amzn.to/3rpSLCg
too much talking...
