TimsComputerFix...
In this video I chow how to properly replace the screen on an HP Notebook model 15-dy1032wm laptop. Todays laptop screens are being assembled with the display screen being adhered to the top lid with tape. I show the correct way to properly remove the adhesive during removal and adding adhesive during assembly. If you are in the Savannah GA area stop by my shop and say hello
Brilliant fix, Tim! Laptops and phones are becoming more and more difficult to service and repair, however I do not believe it is because the devices are becoming thinner, it is primarily the manufacturers attempts to make it as difficult as possible for users and technicians to do what used to be more straightforward and easy repairs. For example, using tape and glue instead of small screws etc. This has definitely increased the chances of breaking screens, bezels etc during the replacement process. This has been one of the most honest and professional videos I have seen on laptop screen replacement. Thank you for your patience in your explanation and demonstration in this video, your efforts are well recognized. A fellow tech.
I appreciate the comments. As usual for whatever reason the pc repair is evolving. We as techs just need to evolve ourselves and roll with the punches.
I agree...he helped me fix my 15 inch hp!!!
Design engineers said “Let’s put five meters of dental floss in there…that’ll throw em off”
It isn't a conspiracy, it's engineers making it cheaper. 100%. They do not care who repairs. Two strips of tape are considerably cheaper than a hinge that extends up the sides of the laptops when you are talking about manufacturing 50,000 of the laptops. Follow the money.
@@kevinmoore9875 : You’re both right.
So great Tim. Changed my first HP Laptop screen for my son to go to college. I am disabled and recovering from an awful traumatic brain injury. I didn't have the money to have an old laptop fixed. Your video empowered me to go ahead and try. Thank you. Now I can help others believe in themselves for computer repairs like this. Amazing!
Glad the video helped.
Great video, I just changed my daughters screen , a drop at University cracked the darn thing. Impressed with the step by step, I wouldn’t have been successful without the help. Keep up the good work
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this video. I have spent the last 2 hours trying to find a video that would help me replace the screen on my laptop. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the videos that I watched basically said that after you remove the bezel, "Just remove these few screws and the screen will pop right out!" I fought for probably an HOUR with my computer screen to try to get it to come out. No luck. I was just about to give up when I came across your video, and realized that I have the EXACT SAME MODEL. Finally, when you mentioned the adhesive on the back of the screen, I realized what the problem was. I guess what I am trying to say is that a small miracle happened when I found your video. I am not very tech-savvy, and this is the first time I have replaced the screen on a laptop, so having the help of someone who ACTUALLY knows what they are doing is wonderful. I am about to order the replacement screen. Also, I am typing this on the laptop that has the broken screen after I connected it to a TV, so I know it is just a screen problem. Thanks!
Glad the video helped.
Absolutely perfect! Only video i found that showed me the illusive sticky tape behind everything. One note to whoever cant seem to find it. On my laptop (15z-cw100), the tape was only barely visable from below (a tiny tab) and was white instead of black
Glad the video helped. Thanks for commenting.
I followed you instruction to a tee. It was perfect. I replaced my laptop's screen effortlessly. Thank you
Glad it helped
Thank you sir for this video. It is the only one I found that talked about the tape behind the screen. I had a Duh moment after separating the screen into multiple layers trying to get it off the cover. Life saver! Also, thank you for the tape recommendation, I was trying to figure out how to re adhere it when the replacement screen came in. Absolutely appreciate your detail! Thank you! This video worked for my hp 15dy1086nr screen.
Glad the video helped! Thanks for commenting.
Thank-you so very much. Old grandma just replaced her grandson's computer screen thanks to you! I've never done one before, but I watched your video several times, ordered the tapes, the screen and now it's done. I used nail tools instead of ordering the one you had, worked great. The touch screen isn't as responsive, but the mouse is working. From the looks of the broken corner, it took a hard tumble. Thanks again Tim!
Glad I could help!
@@TimsComputerRepair If the touch screen isn't responding exactly, should I pull it apart again & reseat the plug? Other than that the screen is working. Thanks again for your help.
I am a 46 year old woman that has no experience whatsoever in computer repairs! i ordered the screen online and watched a couple of videos but couldn't get it right. After watching your video and pausing at every step I fitted the new screen and it works perfectly! Thankyou very much! 10/10 for explanation and easy to follow instructions!
Glad the video helped!
Such a great video. Super detailed. I just used this video to change the screen in the laptop that I use for editing my UA-cam videos. It made the job easy and simple. 5 out of 5 would use his tutorials again. Subbed.
Glad it was helpful!
Good job Tim i can see it requires quite a bit of patience too. these screens aren't cheap. hP wants almost as much as the lap top costs for them.
Thank you Tim, had a tough time with this exact model today, found your video while trying to figure it out. Really appreciate your time and effort. My 2 cents, bring back the bigger heavier screens it's a bugger to work on these lol.
THANK YOU! If I hadn't found your video I never would have tried this myself. So happy that I did not have to replace my entire laptop, especially when it was less than a year old!
Excellent!
Finding this video saved my day when I was about to give up. Thanks a lot!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for making this video!
I might attempt a screen replacement for the first time and I didn't know that the screens were held in with tape similar to those in cell phone batteries.
I was actually thinking about using a heat gun on the adhesive but I'm glad to know that I shouldn't.
If my client ends up approving the repair then I will reference this video multiple times. While I do not have the same model, I hope that it will be similar enough. A service manual does exist but all it does is say "remove the LCD" instead of explaining HOW to remove the LCD.
Thanks for commenting.
wow.. thanks for saving me hours of frustration and bending the lid. staff member just broke the screen and wanted a "super speedy" way to get it fixed lolll.
Glad it worked out. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks so much! My son and I were able to replace a cracked screen with your help!
Glad I could help!
Just wanted to thank you for making the video, and adding the parts links as well. My daughter's 15 series laptop needed the screen replaced and after watching the video the repair went nice and smooth! Take care :-)
Great to hear!
Magical guidance!!! Old screen off and new one fitted within 15 minutes. Thanks Tim
Great!
Felt like crackin' a safe. Satisfied and relieved. Nothing broke. Couldn't have done it without this content. Thank you.
Glad to help
Thanks a lot. Saved me $175. and I had fun learning how to do something new! I really appreciate it!
Glad it helped!
hp wants to charge me 450 bucks! you sir have saved me a lot of money!!!
I did not expect 2 sided tape to be holding the screen in place... Really glad I watched your video. Thanks
Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have had my laptop and the replacement screen sitting next to my desk for the past month, but thanks in huge part to your video I was able to make this fix in an hour's time with no experience whatsoever.
Glad it helped!
Thank you, Tim. I watched this video and still thought I was nuts for trying, but with the video at my side, I was able to replace my touch screen. My laptop appears to be slightly newer and I had adhesive around all four sides of my bezel and the curved piece at the bottom of the screen is attached to my bezel, and not a separate piece. But the principles still applied. The plastic shins are critical! Thanks again.
Great to hear! Thanks for commenting.
My screen was similar but these instructions worked great. I'm typing this on my repaired computer. This clip was great because you showed some the pitfalls and potential issues. You've got a new fan
Glad the video helped.
They had planned obsolescence
Now there so greedy they are making stuff impossible to fix!!!
I do my own repairs on everything I find most stuff is designed to be replaced not repaired On PURPOSE!!!
we buy everything over seas or south of the border
It's cheaper than repairs hear that's why when you send something back to the company or do a insurance claim they just send you another one
Something you pay $200 for in the USA costs less than $20 in china or Mexico
My DAD'S motto was if you can't eat it f**k or fix it you don't need it I agree!!!
I'm actually learning computer's and plan on building my own computer that's fully serviceable running on Lennox
I'm going to make using a brief case everything will be modular and replaceable
I'm done paying $2000 for a computer that I can't fix and is obsolete before it's payed for it's self
I think we would be better off leasing computer's and training them in every year
Thank you! You saved me 100's in getting my laptop repaired. Excellent instructional video
Glad it helped
Thank you sir! U just save me some money! My local PCgeek repair going to charge me 200 bucks for replacing my laptop screen. I can DIY it myself base on ur instructions
Good luck. Thanks for commenting.
Just a couple days ago I took off my laptop screen because my dog chewed the corner of it and damaged it so I had to order a new one, this video helped a lot.
Glad the video helped.
So glad I watched this, you saved me a lot of headache and time lol
Great!
Thanks so much! I have a laptop just like the one you used in the video (besides the touchscreen) and I broke the screen. Thanks to your clear instructions, I was able to repair it without spending $200!
Glad the video helped.
Just to post a big THANK YOU for this video: yo saved me with the sticky bands tip! I was loosing my patience and would destroy something without your help...
Glad it helped!
If only I had found this yesterday, I wouldn’t have ripped off the housing bracket and dented up my case. Great video! Thanks.
Thanks for commenting.
thanks for the great tip. Pulling the black tape is a life saver.
Glad the video helped.
Perfect video! I am not a tech person but I am good at following directions so I purchased my screen repair kit from screenarama from Amazon and I was able to remove my cracked screen and replace my new screen on this first try. Thank you!
PS I managed to break the bezel but it still works so it’s just cosmetic lol.
Glad it helped
The tape snapped on mine on one side. Decided to heat the rear of the screen for a few minutes before continuing as I'm in a cold climate. This seemed to help. Also found it easier to remove the clutch panel (the silver plastic bit) so it was easier to position the black frame first and ensure the WiFi cable stayed put.

Saves my day. Never worked on anything this new and I was wonder why the display was glued in place. HP is now like Apple with the pull tabs.

Thanks to your tutorial, I didn't have to experiment with this HP screen replacement! One thing I noticed: Those screws up top does not need to be removed because the screen is secured by the adhesive correct?
Correct. Thanks for commenitng.
thanks Tim! Successful home repair in under 15 minutes.

Thank you so much for making this video - the black tape would have thrown me for a loop without your prior advice. I got both tape strips loose without either breaking thankfully - screen did come with one bad pixel but customer bought the part so I'll let him ask the vendor about that before I button it all back together - on far right side so should be no issue anyway - I'm thinking to use a few small dabs of RTV silicone in place of the black tape. Will stick but be a little more forgiving than the tape. Have you tried that before?
I just cut small strips of the used black tape and place that near all 4 corners. That is well enough to support the screen.
@@TimsComputerRepair Makes sense. I wasn't sure if it had enough sticky left. I used 6 dabs of silicone calk.
Great step by step explanation. Good job bro.

thank you for the video. Can you provide also a link for the replacement parts? I have to replace the display bezel, the display hinges and the display cover
Hey that was very useful, I need a small help, after fixing the display I also changed the display Bessel, and now I'm finding difficulties in routing the WiFi antenna to the WiFi module, for when I do it and fold the laptop the antenna cable gets crushed, so can you help me
Thanks
Thanks for the tips the monitor replacement was easy with these instructions.
Glad it helped
Yes they're done like a cell phone battery. The double sided tape pulls from the end and usually pulls out as 1 piece. If you pull it properly.
Thanks for commenting.
Such a helpful video! Thanks so much!
Good video, very helpful, took your time and you were very clear. thank you.
You are welcome!
Lost the screws when trying to remove the screen. I have the same exact laptop. Any suggestion where I could get new screws and what size they were.
oh cool thanks for that video so many tutorials and not a single one mention the tape. :)
Glad it was helpful!
Just as you showed . Thank you !!!!!
You are welcome!
Hello, amazing video! great instruction, do i have to unplug the battery from the computer before changing the screen?
No need
This video's a godsend, my dumbass tossed my rugged smartphone and somehow managed to get that thing to cartwheel right into the center of my HP laptop, screwed the screen up really badly. However, if such a simple tumble could ruin a PC like that, I might as well just replace the computer entirely. I'm getting a replacement monitor soon, but I'll definitely get a more rugged laptop later next month.
Thanks for commenting.
Outstanding video sir, no BS.

Hey there, so I followed everything to the T however you didn't put the screws back in . Did we need to ? And I didn't use tape when I put it back, is that a problem and absolutely necessary?
I'm replacing a cracked screen so there is no need to spend a lot of time trying to wiggle the tape that holds the laptop to the lid. I simply apply a heat gun to it to loosen up the adhesive tape and pry it off. Now I wouldn't do that if my screen is good and i'm just trying to maybe repair a loosen lcd cable. But if the screen is being replaced, just pry it off.
You can do that however there is a chance you can bend or damage the top lid prying like that. Thanks for commenting.
Loved the video Tim.
My screen has been flickering and Im wondering if its the actual screen or the ribbon flex cable. Is there a way to find that out?
The screen seems fine when it's not flickering but when it does, it goes bright and sometimes white (picture is good but colour/brightness/saturation changes).
Cheers for any help given or not.
Appreciate your amazing run through of the replacement.
It is the display that is the problem.
@@TimsComputerRepair yes the display. Flickering white lines and now has vertical lines and a bright "rising sun shape" at bottom middle of screen. I could email you a picture or video. If that would help.
I just bought the same laptop right now. I am totally unsatisfied with the TN screen. Can you replace this laptop's screen with a full HD IPS panel?
That silver part that’s between the keyboard and screen, is it replaceable? I think it broke 😩
Santo Dios!!!😅gracias en verdad😉
No black tape behind mine. I bent the sides trying to pull the goop off. I had no luck until I used a heat gun.
I wish I had seen this video. The other guy had me taking the hinge screws out, which stripped trying to get them rescrewed. Apparently they are incredibly fragile and barely screw in.
So now I have a working screen, a non working right hinge and the black perimeter veneer won't snap back in because of the wire sticking out.
I do not get these hinge screws and how easy they get ruined with so little torque. The hinge is the biggest priority. I can tin snip off the bent side metal and hot glue the veneer on. But I don't think super glue and epoxy will seat these screws enough since the tall screen has lots of mechanical advantage.
This is a wonderful video. Thank you.
worked exactly as described. thanks
You're welcome!
Hi Tim, Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Is this same screen ( from amazon) applicable for newer HP model 15-dw3045cl. Any input will be appreciate.
Great video, easy to follow instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Thank you. I watched ur vid and fixed it.
Great to hear!
Thanks for your vdieo..Iam from Kerala, india
Thanks for watching!
Great job I have one to do will order screen today 👍🏼
Hope the video helped.
Great TIP about pulling the TAPE like those 3M COMMAND SRemovable Stickers for hooks or hanging strips. ONLY ONE Question, once repaired the 3MDouble Sided TAPE that you used is Standard Double-Sided Tape so in the worst-case scenario that we need to remove the screen again this tape might not remove by pulling like the Original Thick Tape? thanks for your help, before seeing your solution I was looking for additional screws and was getting ready to use a heat gun to help me remove the adhesive, you git the Jack Pot!
Yeah you would then have to use a bit of heat and carefully pry the screen off.
Hi, thanks for the video very helpful! I am facing the same replacement but i want to upgrade to a 1080p panel. Is there any chance you can tell what 1080p panel would be compatible? I looked online a bunch and didnt find much info. I can see its thin bezel type panel but i guess the EXACT size would be key. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
could the screen replacement be the same for the model HP 15-ef2012ca?
Where would I run the numbers to find a screen ?
Hello! Great video! Is the connector 30 or 40 pins? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the tutorial Tim! I'm going to be repairing my laptop soon so can you please send me a link to buy the replacement screen? Thanks! Very much appreciated!
Thank you so much Tim !!
My pleasure!
I have a problem screen went in fine but how do I enable the touch screen? It displays and works fine as a normal display just no touch. Thanks for the help, great video
Perhaps you ordered non touch version of screen.
@@TimsComputerRepair I checked and I did. Does it have to be enabled anywhere within windows?
Was the new screen an upgrade or was it the same specs? Looking to upgrade mine but not sure if a better screen will work
Do you know where can I find those pull tape like that. I mean, I replaced laptop screen but I use only a thick adhesive tape. I wish I could use this pull tape. So it can be very useful to just pull it out and swap a new one.
Thanks for your help on this much appreciated.
Glad to help
Thank you for the video, it helps a lot.

@@TimsComputerRepair you're welcome dude.
Nice job Tim. My mother in law dropped her HP 15 dy1031wm and now the screen doesn't work The computer still works because I can hook it up to an external monitor and everything is fine. Do you know how to take off the bottom cover to inspect the video connection there or anything else to make sure it is the screen that needs replacing. Thanks again for the great instructional video.
Glad the video helped.
Thanks for the great video Tim
You bet
I was just wondering if the heat tape was something that you had to use or if you could just do the repair without it.
The tape helps secure the screen in place. You could repair without the tape but the only thing holding the screen in place would be that thin bezel.
@@TimsComputerRepair I guess I should have been a little more specific... Lol. I meant the tape you put over the little connectors on the back of the screen. I plan on using the double sided tape for the screen it's self. I was talking more about the other tape you used. I wasn't sure if that was just for extra adhesion or if it was something you HAD to use. Know what I mean? Thank you for getting back to me tho! Ur amazing!
Does this model have removable ram or is the ram soldered on the motherboard?
Would this be the same way to replace a hp 15s fq1505sa? Looks very similar
My non-touch screen just broke today, so this is timely, even though it's old. If that makes sense.
