Bethany-You’ve really been consistent with your videos, and I see you have over 10k followers……CONGRATULATIONS! You’re really good at speaking, it seems very natural for you. Great video
I have heard that starting Zinnia seed inside will make them weaker & more prone to mildew and bugs. Plant Zinnia seed directly in the garden soil and do not fertilize or over water. They are one flower that does not need a drip system. Easy plants. I have been growing them for over 55 years. I sold Zinnia bouquets for 19 years.I live in Northern Illinois and these flowers can really withstand drought conditions and full sun.
I’ve hear that too! I’m going to try direct sowing some this year and see how they compare to the ones started indoors. I don’t know if I could go without drip though bc my containers dry out so fast and I need some way to water while I’m out of town 😆
Oh my! So beautiful! Your garden overall is amazing . This year I plan to do zinnias in containers I’m trying the purple prince and giant colored mixed
Thank you for a very informative video. Never thought to eat my zinnias. I have some problems with Japanese beetles in my smaller varieties. Soapy water in a red solo cup in hand i go through the garden (5 raised beds) every morning.
If I could only grow one flower for the rest of my life it would be zinnias lol! You have a beautiful collection. My favorite variety to grow are the State Fair mix I get from Burpee. I also love the Queen Lime Red.
👏 I think in warm climates zinnias are easiest flower to grow from seed and it's not even close. Plus pollinators love them, including monarch butterflies. I grew parks lilac this year. It starts out pink then fades to purple. The blooms were huge! Have you seen florets precious metal zinnias? I've waited to buy those for YEARS now. Profusion zinnias are incredible for tiny spaces too.
Thank you for this video! I am a new strictly container gardener in Louisiana, and you have helped so much in this new adventure! I absolutely love zinnas. I grew benary's giant and queen limes of different shades this year. I have 2 of the giants in a 10 gallon grow bag and it has produced beautifully. Very large flowers. There is a benary's lime green that I am interested in growing.
Very informative and a delightful presentation. Lots to think about and plan, thank you for your expertise. Could you in another video show the process of planting in your raised beds & containers from the start? Thank You so much! 🙏🏻 🌺
I accidentally broke a zinnia that had a beautiful flower on it while weeding. Just to see if it could continue growing long enough for the flower to finish, I put it into the ground and covered it with soil. To my surprise, it produced roots and continued to grow and produce more flowers. So I found out by mistake that zinnia can be grown from a cutting.
Thank you. I’ve gone zinnia crazy this year. Here in SoCal 9b, I find the Oklahoma variety does really well. Trying to keep mini green grasshoppers from eating the leaves. I only fertilize with fish emulsion.
hi , I bought a zinnia in bloom about 10 inches hight , it took me one hour to reach home , but after planting in pot it faded and died , whats the reason
Zennias are beautiful. However, I hate how much foillage grows with it. How do you get more flowers and less foillage for their first year of growth? Or do I need to find a variety that has more flowers? Ps your back deck is so pretty!
If the zinnias are edible, I have to ask the question, are they medicinal? Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, I have several packets of zinnia seeds in all different colors as well as many other flowers too but have not planted any as of yet. I am always afraid of growing flowers amongst my vegetables for some reason, or maybe it is just a fear of failure. I forced myself to buy some echinacea starts from my local farmers market last year and they of course were very small all last season and produced no flowers. This year they have really taken off and are taller than I am (5' 1"), but the amount of flowers is just gorgeous and I love them. I am currently drying my first batch of leaves and flowers ( after I enjoyed them in a vase for a few days of course ) so that I can make a tincture from them. I am really getting into the world of herbalism and enjoying it, and I cannot wait to add more flowers to my gardens in the coming years. Again, thank you so much for teaching me about the zinnia. May God always Bless you
I’m just getting into edible flowers so don’t know a ton yet! From what I’ve read there isn’t a lot of it for medicinal purposes but it’s also likely I haven’t come across that info yet.
I’ll also get zinnias that look different from the same plant! Some have the fluffy center, some have just a rim of petals. This variety definitely has more variation of the flowers than any other zinnias I’ve grown.
Just found your channel and my growing zone is the same as yours (I’m in the suburbs) I’m thinking about growing zinnias beca use I have a black thumb and I want flowers this year. I already have a dirt bed formed in front on my house by my foundation on each side of my front door - would zinnias grow nicely in these spaces? They get full afternoon Sun. Morning? Not so much. Tia
I’m in 6a in Chicago! I have allergies as well and I’ve never noticed any issue with zinnias. Some other plants have caused my skin to get itchy, but not these. I say that though knowing everyone’s allergies are different!

Thank you so much, that means a lot! I can definitely tell I’m more nervous in my videos from when I started 😆
@@ChicagoGardener You’re welcome! Truly i’ve never noticed you being nervous, you’re a pro 😁
Great video!! I usually direct sow mine once the weather gets warmer. I’ve grown them for over 30 years around my mailbox. Love them!
I’m going to direct so a lot more this year!

I haven’t tried purple prince! Let me know how it does for you.
Thank you for the useful tips of growing Zinnias!
You’re welcome! I’m glad it was useful!!
Thanks for a great info on how to grow Zinnias in container, I have mine this season in container as well.

I love zinnias so much! No other flower is as productive in my garden.
I love zinnias! They are hardy and love the sun. I always sow wildflower seeds and they are mostly zinnias and cosmos! The butterflys love it!
I think zinnias will be my first cut flowers, I plan on putting them into containers. Thanks for the vid
They’re my favorite cut flower! Let me know how they do for you.
Loved the taste test 😂 My husband is a chef so I’m going to let him know. Corn flowers are edible and so so beautiful in any dish!
I’m going to have to eat those next!

I haven’t seen the precious metal zinnias! Are they on her site?

That makes me so happy to hear! I’m very interested in the giant lime now so I’m going to have to get some seeds for next year.

I definitely will! Planting season has started and I’m filming each bed I plant!

Yes! Then I have branches break off I’ll root them in water.
Can they root in water?@@ChicagoGardener

I grew Oklahoma pink last year!
Am in Florida and grow my zinnias from seed by direct sowing them but they always get powdery mildew😢
I’m sure it’s a battle with your humidity!
@@ChicagoGardener it sure is
Hi, at 20:35, when u r holding pink zinnia, what is the name of other plant next to it(one that can be viewed Rightside of pink zinnia). Thank u
I think that was the Bonita Shell pink china aster
I’m growing zinnias and some do get tall and oh how pretty they look blowing in the wind.
How often do you water your zinnias.

I keep harvesting the flowers and the plants will continue to get bushier and produce more flowers!

Just googled for pictures and now know that there seem to be different blooming stages😂

Hi - what size of pot do zinnia isabellina need? Can I plant 3 in one pot? 😊
I did 3 zinnias in a 12” diameter pot last year and they did great!
Thanks!

I think they would do great there! They can handler poor quality soil and are pretty easy maintenance wise.
@@ChicagoGardener thank you so much! Going to get sowing (is that the word? Lol) 😂
June,😂i live in the Interior of Alaska. Last frost, mid June, first frost end of July.
Does that give you time to grow zinnias?
What liquid and slow release fertilizer do you use for your zinnias
I like proven winners water soluble fertilizer for my annuals and then I use espoma biotone at planting!
Est-ce que tu dois ajouter de l’engrais à fleur ?
I add liquid fertilizer about once every two weeks!
Are you in zone 5b(Chicago and suburbs)? And my 13 year old has allergy….are Zinnias harmful to those with allergy?

I wish you would put names on screen because spelling is not my strong point.
I do now! I have a recent zinnia video for this year where I show what I’m growing with names on the screen if that helps!
Ohh bet your flowers are not traumatized.. Plus the probably love you
Shame
