This makes them irrelevant in station or ship boarding operations, and since there's no place for the soldiers or weapons in the vehicles they're carrying (except sitting in their stations in those vehicles the whole way), they're not really ideal for deploying assets to the field.
Billy Hyde re. Deploying soldiers onto the battlefield how many people bother sitting in the seats in the Valkyrie. People line up in the doorway, check out any number of Rexzilla ops. The Cutlass should have gotten a dedicated section. So far some Hoplites and Valkyries seem like a very good combination. The Retailiator also has a cramped interior, so I hope the module allows dropping troops like bombs lol. I guess they could strap some seats to the ramp of the Constellation too (which I suspect will also end up with a rework later).
as you said, I like the idea to use the cutlass for moving troops because the ennemy can't know if it's a regular cutlass with a solo pilot, or fulled with an army.
I like the prowler because of it's agile nature, stealth, s5 weapon hard points, it's gravlev tech that will allow it to stick to hulls of larger ships and air shields for space boarding and supposed to be able to take a beating. Seems the only one designed for ship to ship boarding in mind. It is very spendy though.
I really hope the Redeemer can be... Well redeemed. It was the first ship I saw that led me to discover Star Citizen and eventually become a backer. And I must confess I really like the nutcrackers :P
Great vid as always! I'm currently waiting on the Hoplite to go on sale again (3.6 live maybe?) as it's a ship I'm waiting for to help round out my support fleet. Adding to a list of ships with potential future dropship potential, I personally think the Herclules M2 would make a fantastic candidate. At present it can hold 2 tonks which presumably could be swapped out for quite a few smaller vehicles, but imagine being able to drop two-dozen troops into a hot LZ instead!
Great video! I personally think the Hoplite is the best option currently, although I would like it to have two more seats. They could fit them where the engineering station is (unneeded IMO on a craft designed for shorter missions than the other variants) or stuck in the center of the isle with the new wider interior. Eight seats compared to six just feels more viable for transporting troops. Of course, there is currently nothing stopping players from standing in the center if an org wanted to fit more people in.
Drop ship style game play has never felt like my thing unless its as an extra crew member but since the moment i went aboard the Valk I've loved that ship, now with recent rework the vanguard is looking pretty slick too, i may need to reconsider...
Thanks for the informative video. The swap-able central module of the Vanguard is huge news. It makes a Vanguard so much more versatile than it was already.
1:55 i think, the Redeemer get's after the Rework more focus as a Gunship. But the 2 Turrets make it perfect as a Dropship and i think, it makes it a better Dropship then the Hopelite.
I think Valkyrie escorted by Hoplites would be a decent setup, with a Hercules thrown in if you needed some tanks. A Valk and 4 Hops gets you 44 infantry and a light vehicle, and takes 13 flight crew. 2 Heavy vehicles with a Hercules thrown in and 3 extra flight crew (If using the M2).
Surprise or misdirection are always key, and should be used in all permitting circumstances. The only time you should be straight with an opponent is during a double-bluff.
This was a really good summary of all the options we have moving troops. Thanks. I do believe the A2 and M2 should have gotten mentioned though (since you included the Starliner which is more a "passenger airplane" imo).
bback they are in the same boat... not a drop ship. I mentioned only to squash some misconceptions. The Herc is too large for people to assume it to be a viable platform
The Scimitar was way better then the Redeemer in my opinion. Btw... the Hoplite has room for storage... it just lacks trading console support. The Cutlass has also extra seats in the back which makes it naturally fitting here. Maybe we should also add the Starlifter because of it's vehicle dropship capabilities. Then there is the Caterpillar which was meant to have modules for troops and boarding (or deploying Dragonflies)... but no one knows if this will be abandoned or not. (Honorable mention: There is also the Reliant Tana which has everything the other dropships offer... but is just for 2 persons^^)
The Prowler Stealth Plus 20 grunts that is designed to sneak up on ships and ground based locations. Sounds like Seal Team 6 Stealth Helicopter with extra room to me.
I got the tali for my drop ship. It felt silly to have a dedicated drop ship (for cost) but a ship that could be used in org missions as a anti capital bomber (even if its entire payload dosnt even scratch the hammerhead) or slip in a drop pod for transporting troops. If you don't have many org mates then some of youre turrets can be ai driven with the 'shards' Then when iam just getting on an doing my business slap in the cargo module and enjoy long haul deliveries in the best looking ship in the game (hugely biast opinion right here 😂) Thanks for the video!!
I like how you mentioned the Cutlass. That ship is obviously NOT a dropship. But one can make it work as a makeshift dropship if nothing else is available. Depending on the anticipated enemy defenses a squad of several Cutlass might even be the more sensible choice, since the loss of one ship wouldn't automatically result in the loss of 20 soldiers. You also did not mention the mother of all "certainly not a dropship but you might be able to make it work, if you're desperate"-dropships: The Argo.
I could be mistaken, but I believe the Hoplite is the only drop ship that can fit in a Idris. Being able to drop troops off or bring them back to the Idris for medical attention, would make the ship far more useful to me, compared to the others on offer.
I'm not sure, but I thought the Retaliator had 2 swappable modules. That'd mean it could seat 24 people and hold 2 Titan suits. That seems pretty good as long as there's a way to quickly load and unload people.
talking about the redeemer . wonder if the Retaliator or Gladiator will ever get a rework .only wondering about them two because close to every ship that got released to hanger has been reworked and both of them are super old specially the gladiator
The prowler just scares people to death so not as many weapons are required. It just looks so menacing in landing mode. Perched and ready to deliver death like a scorpion or something. Valk is a great ship though. Love the VTOL and all the guns sticking out of it.
You forgot to mention the Cutty also has 6 jumpseats built in already, and ample room for a vehicle. Add the fact it was supposed to get a door mount for a tractor beam, which I would wonder if it could not be swapped out for a weapon as the Valkery has and you have a nice hidden-in-plain-view dropship, maybe?
I have always felt two or three hopolites would be better than a Valkari. Pretty much the same amount of flight crew, more baskets for the eggs, air cover and fire support for ground troops. The current vehicles that the Valk can deliver is out weighed by the amount of firepower three Hopolites can bring. In today's terms the Hopolite is a Hind and the Valk is a CH 53.
Great video! Now we need to see the same focus on ground combat. Having a tank and rover is nice but there’s no dedicated IFV/APC concept that I’ve seen yet. The nova tank is literally just a tank with no troop carrying capacity and the rover’s 4-man passenger capacity just isn’t sufficient enough to call it a troop-carrying transport, in my opinion. 4 dudes is maybe enough to provide a screen for the rover but not a full-on mechanized assault. I’d like to see some focus on that by the devs, especially since me and my org mates specialize in mechanized warfare.
NOOBIFIER you completely forgot the oldest and most traditional definition/role of a dropship in science fiction - a troop lander dropped from orbit with limited flight capability, one usually intended to be recovered back to orbit by a salvager or tug. These were not drop pods. These were ships that freefell from orbit into atmo / near-surface and then flew from the end-of-freefall to the insertion point. For trans-space travel they were carried by a troop carrier in the style of the Idris / Bengal / Retribution. In the original book of Starship Troopers they used this style of dropship, and the marines on the ground were exfiltrated by a different class of ship than the one they landed in. The drop ship in Aliens was originally written as a fast-falling / slow-return-to-orbit flight performance - the high powered exit-to-orbit flight in the Aliens movie was not a capability of the original performance of the ship and was added to the movie for dramatic effect.
Surely the Tali could fit 2 of those modules to deploy 24 troops and 2 titan suits? Or perhaps the other bay could fit a vehicle drop bay (probably for bikes), equipment to set up a command point, or a bunch of bombs to raze an area before dropping off troops. At the end of the day, it doesn't need to be a better drop ship than the Valkyrie, as in lore it's limited use in this aspect is probably what inspired Anvil to design the Valk.
The troop transport module is in the front section of the ship. The larger of the two bays. The back bay didn’t have a dropship module for it but it did have a cargo module which you could probably fit some bikes into or you could keep the torpedo bay and swap out the S9 for rocket pods to saturate a landing zone
Fair enough! I didn't realize the bays were different sizes. Maybe they would make a rear troop module that doesn't include the Titan charging node? Although a giant rocket pod does sound pretty cool...
The warden has a niche purpose and the weapon load out for the entire line is underwhelming. It's not hard to take one down with an avenger titan or 325a.
I figure the Genesis Starliner would function like a Liberty ship when it came to troop transport, don't know why anyone would even want to try to land something that large in a warzone. I really am curious to see what happens to the Redeemer, it will be an interesting day when we get some news on it.
Hoplite is what I am looking at right now we are a small org and the hoplite fits the bill the best and I can us it as a heavy fighter to support in other operations. I do love the cutty because it can do a bit of everything but there is so many of them in our org that I feel like mixing it up.
I would like to know how they are going to use things like secured seating, life support, etc. to affect using ships like Cutlass and Freelancer to transport large numbers of players.
The retaliator is a stealth dropship. It has several turrets to cover upon landing. I don't see why this wouldn't be the go to ship. If you put the torpedo bay in the rear you have the capability to atleast disable whatever is in the dropzone. If they add bomb bay to rear module you could even saturate the dropzone before landing. Everyone treating retaliator base like windows phone. Nobody talking about it.
Good, straight to the point video, Noobifier, as always, although I'd have loved a little bit more of detail or insight per ship. Maybe another video about dropships/gunships when the Prowler is closer to release and we know something about the Redeemer or the Retaliator? Regarding the Retaliator, I think that it will have to be reworked due to metrics and modularity, thus we may see relevant changes in the ship, not just the size (I'm talking weapons and turrets). I like the Retaliator, but what you said in the video... well, my thoughts exactly: the crew/soldiers ratio just doesn't add up... unless we are talking NPCs, blades... or major rework. I think it will have to become a little bit wider (as per the work seen on other reworked ships). Also, not sure if you implied "the" central module of the Retaliator when you said "one" central module of the Retaliator. Could you please clarify? :-) Generally speaking, I love the idea of multi-purpose ships through modularity.
I'd like to see a drop ship with a forward facing loading ramp, similar to the UD4L from Aliens, as it seems Star Citezen takes alot of design ques from the Aliens/colonial marines franchise. I just like the idea of being dropped off by a ship that can provide suppressive fire via missles or turret.
The only things I have issues with is how you stated the Redeemer to have two "stories" when it's a ship, not a building, and therefore it has two decks, not stories, and how you didn't use a a definite article (such as "the") when describing *the* Retaliator at 5:30; the latter point is a subject of major annoyance to me because it's an INCREDIBLY simple grammar rule to follow, but I've been seeing it routinely ignored as of late, and with my being a graduate of English specialization, I tend to harp on such things. Other than those issues, which I have more because I'm a stickler for proper terminology and grammar, I'd say this is a good video with excellent formatting, the highlighted list at the bottom was a nice touch. Regarding your reservations about the Retaliator having a DropShip module, I would contend that such a module could possibly make the ship an excellent craft to form a mobile Forward Operations Base if fitted with a cargo bay module to carry additional supplies along with the DropShip module and had its turrets used for area denial.
The Prowler for me. Nothing says Special Operations like trying to board and steal an enemy cap ship with no one being then wiser really appeals to me.
I wouldn't call its turret coverage good when landed -- a drop ship desperately needs guns on its sides and undersides, where a Gemini doesn't have them -- and it's so tall and wide that the guns it DOES have still don't offer good protection against ground targets. On top of that, its overall performance leaves a lot to be desired, particularly in an atmospheric theater. I would classify the Gemini more along the lines of the Genesis - it would be good for delivering to an operation, but not to combat.
Great vid, per usual, but I have to disagree with giving the Hoplite cargo. The Valkyrie with cargo I can understand and can totally see it resupplying forward positions but the Hoplite is a heavy fighter that can carry troops. Given the size of the ship and number of troops it can carry I cannot see this carrying cargo as well. Adding cargo just so it can do cargo missions doesn’t seem to fit its role in the Verse either.
cutless is very risky to use as a dropship, it doesn't have troop module, and as far as i am aware off it's not getting one ,, means no seat to strap into , so flying in atmo you will swing around and dying in the cargo room , same for freelancer
Although I think there are other, better ships in the game overall, the Valkyrie stands out as possibly the best purpose-designed ship CIG has shown us thus far -- and by that I mean, it's able to do the job it was specifically designed for better than any other craft. And, on top of that, it's got multi-role and multi-crew potential all over it, and it's just FUN.
I've finally moved into a house and gotten a proper desk for my computer, so hopefully I can buy a starter package and some joysticks soon. Please keep up those control stick reviews, especially on the low-to-mid price points.
T16000M is all you need to know. For the price you will NOT find anything better. I got the stick, throttle, and pedals for $172 delivered from TM on amazon.
That's my top contender for the moment, though given the 6DoF control format I'd probably go for dual sticks instead of a HoTaS setup. I'm just surprised no one has entered the market with a direct competitor. Everything priced below it is junk, and pretty much everything else available is twice the price or more.
So many choices, indeed and I wonder how "convenient" it will be to grab the right ship for the job... If it's halfway across the 'Verse. Thanks as always Noob!
I always though that if we got a version that was If the Genesis was going to get a version That was able to deliver troops into the middle of a battler field I was be designed with the thought of para-trooping Infantry, supplies, and vehicles (for vehicles like the Nova Tank you would have to fly pretty low to the ground for this to work sometimes fly so close to the ground maybe 25 ft that you all you need to do is release the tank no shot needed mind you and get the hell out of there)
I disagree on the Hoplite getting cargo, it defeats the purpose of it's gunship role. Quick deploy to do CAS for your ground troops. I think of it similar to the Mi-24 in that sense.
cowboy10uk If you are referring to the sling load/external stores, I am aware of it but you are missing my point Unless you can quickly jettison those stores on landing all I see is an easy target for someone in the middle of combat.
WAIT... right in the beginning you said that we can't forcefully open ship doors atm. There was a time where we could force them open by shooting them with the railgun or a grenade. Doesn't that work anymore?
The six troops in a Hoplite or Redeemer and the 12 in the Tali makes sense to me with 6 man squads, consisting of two 3 man fireteams. 4 Hoplites/Redeemers or two Talis carry a platoon, 2 Rifle squads, a weapon squad, Platoon Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Corpsman and FAC, plus a 2 man Sniper team or two spare seats. 20 seats makes less sense. You could run 3x8 man rifle squads a Weapons Squad and 4 man HQ but the Valkyrie seating arrangement doesn't really support that. If you are running yhd same 6 man squads. You are missing the Corpsman, really should be there and the seating arrangement is wrong. So for the Valkyrie what is your squad and platoon organization?
I love how this video started right away! so rare that an introduction is less than a minute long before the video actually starts.

If you don't have many org mates then some of youre turrets can be ai driven with the 'shards'
Then when iam just getting on an doing my business slap in the cargo module and enjoy long haul deliveries in the best looking ship in the game (hugely biast opinion right here 😂)
Thanks for the video!!
I especially liked this video. Keep it up, havent missed out on any of your content so far!
I could be mistaken, but I believe the Hoplite is the only drop ship that can fit in a Idris. Being able to drop troops off or bring them back to the Idris for medical attention, would make the ship far more useful to me, compared to the others on offer.
TheLordDeliverence only ship for now... there are at least 36 concept sales between now and 2022
I'm not sure, but I thought the Retaliator had 2 swappable modules.
I think a rework is highly unlikely but they will probably get a polish at some point.
I didn’t really forget. I implied it would be suitable
Prowler is for me... especially with my ninja tomcats coming out of it. :)
I love my valk so much. Now that is capable of carrying cargo, it's for sure the sort cutlass
Please do more ship class overview videos. These will be very useful
I hope the engines on the Hoplite are eventually going to spin, at least in atmo'.
A module, or variants, for Freelancer and Cutlass dedicated to transport people or drop troops would be interesting.
Cutlass Black in this role reminds me of the MH-1 Little Bird. Just hop in with a squad and drop them anywhere.
Nice video man, I really wana see how the vanguard progresses, I really like the ship, but it always feels like something is missing
The warden has a niche purpose and the weapon load out for the entire line is underwhelming. It's not hard to take one down with an avenger titan or 325a.
@@lostmf1279 agreed man
I figure the Genesis Starliner would function like a Liberty ship when it came to troop transport, don't know why anyone would even want to try to land something that large in a warzone.
Cutlass Black, most bang for your buck. If you had to start with one ship, that is the one I would chose.
Great comparison video. Need more of this kind. Thanks Noob
Generally speaking, I love the idea of multi-purpose ships through modularity.
Jaume Sabater I will be doing updated ship fight videos
I'd like to see a drop ship with a forward facing loading ramp, similar to the UD4L from Aliens, as it seems Star Citezen takes alot of design ques from the Aliens/colonial marines franchise. I just like the idea of being dropped off by a ship that can provide suppressive fire via missles or turret.
Hercules Starlifter. It’s got front and back ramps
A2 / M2 / C2 starlifter, best dropship in the game.
Thanks for the run down!
Nice overview, thanks. The Prowler wins on looks, imo, but I agree as to how it would be more limited than the others.
Good video fella,thanks😉
The Prowler for me. Nothing says Special Operations like trying to board and steal an enemy cap ship with no one being then wiser really appeals to me.
What about a Starfarer Gemini as a Dropship? Can carry troops and vehicles, nice broad door/ramp with good turret coverage when landed.
I would love too see a super cutlass variant!
Nice video Noobifier. Keep up the quality content.
I like that we went from a space simulator to "Arma IIII Interstellar"
~Referring to the picture of 3 Valkyries above a forest planetside~
i don't like war games but i heard arma is on point for those players
@@Schoolship. Arma is the game that the swedish military use for strategic practice. Yes it's very accurate :)
Makes me wonder how much these types of one role ships like this will be used. Like the Prowler. For the cost that is.
cutless is very risky to use as a dropship, it doesn't have troop module, and as far as i am aware off it's not getting one ,, means no seat to strap into , so flying in atmo you will swing around and dying in the cargo room , same for freelancer
JUST ME Cutty has seats all over the back
Although I think there are other, better ships in the game overall, the Valkyrie stands out as possibly the best purpose-designed ship CIG has shown us thus far -- and by that I mean, it's able to do the job it was specifically designed for better than any other craft. And, on top of that, it's got multi-role and multi-crew potential all over it, and it's just FUN.
Billy Hyde it’s a Gem like the Cutty and Titan.
Love to grab a Valkyrie for myself. Thanks for the great video!
Kinda thought you might have included the Hercules M2 Noobster.
Thanks for the updates Noob.
I kick myself constantly for not picking up a Starliner when they were on concept - Cant wait to see them in game
Thanks for your hard work Noob, great video.
So many choices, indeed and I wonder how "convenient" it will be to grab the right ship for the job... If it's halfway across the 'Verse. Thanks as always Noob!
I always though that if we got a version that was If the Genesis was going to get a version That was able to deliver troops into the middle of a battler field I was be designed with the thought of para-trooping Infantry, supplies, and vehicles (for vehicles like the Nova Tank you would have to fly pretty low to the ground for this to work sometimes fly so close to the ground maybe 25 ft that you all you need to do is release the tank no shot needed mind you and get the hell out of there)
Nice video once again
Big Salute - This one helped me a lot!
Oh yes ! just a tiny cargo grid for the hoplite !
+10 for your definition of gunship.
This is the video I have been waiting for!
I disagree on the Hoplite getting cargo, it defeats the purpose of it's gunship role. Quick deploy to do CAS for your ground troops. I think of it similar to the Mi-24 in that sense.
Would that be the same MI-24 that can carry cargo. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
cowboy10uk If you are referring to the sling load/external stores, I am aware of it but you are missing my point Unless you can quickly jettison those stores on landing all I see is an easy target for someone in the middle of combat.
Love your breakdowns.
Tnx for yet another good video!
Great video. Thanks for the drop ship insight.
WAIT... right in the beginning you said that we can't forcefully open ship doors atm.
As far as modern military stuff goes a fireteam is four men.
@@EvidensInsania light infantry in the US Army, yes, but a Bradley carries 6, in addition to the driver, gunner and TC.
Does CIG plan to put sits for troops in the Cutlass?
Choices, choices...made easier with help from Noobifier, thx.
Be cool if there was an avenger dropship variant or a module
I will like SC to add OST ship to drop troop from orbit or in air
like halo OST
May we get an updated video on this with the new additions and concepts ?
Yes
Do we know if the are any plans for paratroop or jump pack mechanics?
Thank you for your great work!
Thanks!
Not my type of gameplay but I do have a Freelancer and Cutlass for those type of missions.
