Great vehicle, but $35k - that's nuts.Does anyone else feel like car prices are getting out of control? Put 20% down on this vehicle ($7,100!!) and a 4 yr loan and your payments are a whopping $660 a month!!!!
I purchased this vehicle a few weeks ago. It is Milan Blue. The interior is so romantic in shades of dark and medium gray. Very plush, great gas effiency, smooth comfort, and excellent steering and handling. A lot of cargo space! It holds my sisters rollator easily. There are three connections in the front lower dash for charging phones and one charger outlet in the back. reverse camera is the bomb!
It's funny.. I had my Santa Fe Sport 2.0T for 3rd year now and not a one, not a one thing broke or had issues. The quality is solid (better than Japanese or German competitors) feel. Our dealers in Kansas has been nothing but royalty service. No complaints here in the mid west. I changed to Stanta Fe Sport from Honda CR-V and after 3 years of Hyundai ownership, I would never go back to Honda again.
Wow! You guys are the first to review everything! I love it! Hyundai is getting way to expensive, same with kia. They are not at the level to charge $35,000 for a small suv. For that price you can get a loaded honda pilot, toyota venza etc and they hold their value and are more reliable!
If you have a problem and you will, believe me.I'm a Hyundai Santa Fe owner since 2003.You must know that the Hyundai Corporation is not held accountable for any mis-leading guarantees the dealerships give. You can contact Hyundai Corporation until your blue in the face about a serious issue like transmission problem or an issue about injury caused by faulty door handles and they will refer you to the same dealership that wouldn't honor their satisfaction guarantee in the first place.
Not true the new escape arrived redesigned before the santa fe, the redesign to the body only happened this year for 2013. The escape arrived redesigned April 4, 2012 and the santa fe arrived June 2012, so these were basically around at exactly the same time and being designed at close together intervals.
And, FYI, I am not a Hyundai Fanboy, in case you want to use it as a come back. Actually in my family we buy Honda and Hyundai. We consider both car really good, but we cant ignore that Honda is dropping the ball in terms of design. Something well known by all reviewers on internet is the fact that Honda and Toyota are not doing the best in terms of design and innovations (besides the hybrid cars, with prices that still dont represent a real saving on the long run).
The color is Cabo Bronze, it's beautiful and changes color based on light. Also the reviewer is totally wrong as the 2.0 turbo has plenty of power, you can not compare it to a V-8.
Never thought owning a Hyundai, same stigma as some people, bought a Sonata 2.0T premium and let me tell you, with all the bells and whistles, and that 10 year warranty, this car is worth every penny! test drive one before judging.... the fuel economy is amazing if you treat the gas pedal, but if you step on the gas often, it will drink the gas as if was water... :)
Beautiful automobile! Currently drive a 2007 Tiburon 87k (runs perfect), and partner drives a 2012 Veloster. Would really like to get into a new Santa Fe, very sporty, yet refined looking.
Keep in mind that Nissan is no longer Japanese only. Many of their cars has Korean and French technology from Renault-Samsung Motors. Remember Nissan belongs to Renault Motors Group.
A strong notion in many 2012 Civic models including the CRV is the lack of interior material quality. That had to be the first thing that stood out to me in the CRV.
I have another piece of advice. I recommend simply taking a 2013 Santa Fe for a spin, and tell me what you think. But, if you absolutely LOVE honda, I respect that, as they were at the top of their game a few yeras ago.
I was 16 and wanted to buy a car , so I test drove a 2002 Honda Civic SI. I loved it. It was smooth, fun and cool. 2/8 years later, I gave the 2012 Honda Civic a try. I am thinking.... THey've only gotten worse!!!!!
The squared-off projector beam headlamps are an interesting touch. Overall looks nice, and the interior is not overdone like the Sonata's interior. Not sure why a comment about mobile phones got into the "Top Comments" section!!
That's still great, and your still ahead of me if you do that with Czech or Japanese..lol. I'm just happy I learned Spanish..because it really does open up a new world when you fluently speak, read & write in another language..and spanish is so full of passion it really has enriched my life. Especially when so much written in English lacks that particular fire & passion. =)
Overall, this car is pretty neat. The only minor things I dislike is the frontal passengers' dramatic-looking air conditioning vents and the reaching for the storage compartment event to get a back-up emergency kit (bandages, tissues, hand sanitizer, Neosporin, etc.).
The front grills are reminiscent of the Ford Edge. The host reviewer was right in saying that the vehicle should have at least had power folding side mirrors at that price. Very nice interior though.
No. You did not listen. He praises the turbo engine several times, talks about how it's better than the base 2.4 liter and then complains about it being sluggish. Last time I checked, "sluggush" is not an appealing quality in an engine. So this guy clearly contradicted himself.
It depends on your definition of rich. I went to Peru and spent the month with a family. With what they shared, how they shared, their personalities and their hearts, they are the richest people I've ever met.
I love the CX-5, but it doesn't directly compete with the Santa Fe Sport. This is a larger vehicle that competes with vehicles like the Ford Edge and other similar sized vehicles. CX-5 is competition for the CR-V, Tucson, Tiguan, etc.
Languages are such an amazing thing to study. I'm still learning some easy French lessons from Rosetta-Stone so I can go travel to the Loire Valley and have the business conference there to maybe promoting my job standings.
To be honest, I didn't like the philosophy of Hyundai's design which is called "fluidic sculpture" because it didn't look simple but I think the design is slightly getting better. The only concern I have is that it seems like that Hyundai still need to find out a way to upgrade "fuel efficiency".
I think the main reason is, we don't really like overnight changes. For example, we honor the people who make millions over the years with hard work, but we don't really feel proud of lottery winners, even if the win was not a big prize. Even in 2009, Hyundai wasn't something that someone would brag about. But the radical change is good for auto world, in terms of healthy competition. I personally just want to see vehicles that can reduce deaths in future.
At 3:20 he says it was sluggish uphills, but he was happy about its power he didn't contradict himself you just didn't listen, its only sluggish though due to the turbo lag.
for $35,000 you can buy a used 2008 bmw X5 with 30-50k miles but keep in mind it will be a very high maintenance vehicle as big or small repairs repairs will drain your bank account. for the price i would go with the brand new santa fe as the santa fe should be pretty much trouble free and last a long time, but if you want the look of a high roller go lease a bmw for 30k miles and get the free maintenance plan that they usually offer.
My mother took out a CRV for a spin, then she took my Elantra for a spin for a day. The difference in quality was obvious she said, (to my eXpectation), and comparing the civic to the elantra would just be unfair.
I'm happy for you. What do you own?I know others who are happy too.I would have been happy also if Hyundai America would have acknowledged the lemon I bought and taken care of it.They chose to ignore the fact that lemons do come off the line..
For about 2 years now, this car is a head turner for me. I own a Ford Explorer, but let me tell you, I would buy Hyundai over Ford or Dodge anytime! And did you see the Genesis? Or Genesis Coupe? Hyundai is the future Lexus.
good video dude, the only thing i find strange is how you guys call the brand "Hun-day" and in britain we call it "Hi-yun-die".....i wonder what they call it in Korea?
Agree 100%. And besides let's not forget Honda isn't exactly Mercedes, BMW or Ford when it comes to history or heritage either. As things stand, I see preciously little difference between the image Honda and Hyundai project - in fact with their eye-catching design and value Hyundai is pulling far ahead of Honda and Toyota in the desiribility stakes. If I was in the market for a SUV I would pick the Santa Fe over the CR-V any day.
Why does he say the 2.0 turbo engine is good for going up inclines and then he says it disappointed him? Did he contradict himself or am I missing something?
The new santa fe don't have power folding mirror? The older one have those. Or is it an optional extra or only certain trim have it? That's such a small thing to be optional.
I have never taken the Sonata for a spin, and by the sounds of it, I am not impressed with it. However, I LOVE the elantra, and probably will love the santa fe, as my mother wants to buy one for herself. But you're right, I was getting disrespectful. However, in the interior of the Honda Civic, the materials it displayed appeared to be cut from a bloody cookie cutter. Not the same with the Elantra.
BMW and Hyundai developers are actually getting together to develop a brand new engine for both of their brands. and BMW makes some of the best engines in the world hands down.
i gotta admit, this thing looks beautiful inside and out...but im wondering just how "premium" the interiors build quality really is... also id like 2 know how well this thing handles... ._.
We have an '07 Santa Fe, SE 3.3 AWD. Always been maintained at the dealer, had two weird problems, one being a recall and another a very rare problem. The rare problem (ABS pump) happened right when we passed the warranty by a few hundred KM's.. dealer charged nothing for what would of been a 1800$ repair. I heard horror stories about all makes and models, and seems like the customer service in America just spits in the face of its customers. In Canada, even bad dealers don't last long.
I am not sure why one would need paddle shifters on a SUV. To me, that's like wanting them on a mini-van. If you want fun and sporty, get a small car with a MT.
I know that if you drive the 2012 or 2013 Hyundai, you will think immediately that Hyundai is a great brand. I am new to Hyundai, I haven't known about it for many years, so to me, it doesn't have that reputation for being "shitty". All I know is that I love the 2012s and 2013s, and they are perfect commuters, and Hyundai is now an incredible brand for passenger vehicles.
WOW this car looks amazing, i was thinking of buying a dodge durango the new one but this looks very practical, stylish and sexy and highly gass effecient, y know what that means : more spending money on yourself instead of always going to car bill :D , movies, vacations, make life really count and make yourself happy.
This is a mid-size SUV, not a small SUV. It is less than the Ford Edge when comparably equipped. Also, you need to do a lot of research because you have no clue as to what you are talking about. A loaded Pilot and Highlander are both over $41,000. There is nothing unreliable about the Santa Fe, and it holds it value very well.
Dude, accept it, the Honda CR-V has bad MPG, compared with others, that old 2.4 Engine is not efficient. And about the Civic, man, it is still a 1.8 SOHC, what is that? If MOST people, like you said, find Hyundai cars stylish and appealing, there must be a good reason, dude... It is not possible that MOST people is wrong. And with "people" we dont only talk about buyers, but about reviewers and journalists as well. Anyway, you are Honda fan, you buy badge, we buy cars. Have a nice one, Peace!
Great vehicle, but $35k - that's nuts.Does anyone else feel like car prices are getting out of control? Put 20% down on this vehicle ($7,100!!) and a 4 yr loan and your payments are a whopping $660 a month!!!!
My grandmother has this car and I love it
We owned one for over 6 years, still runs strong and never had any real problems other then parts that wear.
What engine? And how's it going now?
I own a 2013 diesel for the last 12 months.
yes it does, i have owned 4 hondas since 2000, all were 2001 previous cars when they used to be good, I wouldnt be caught dead buying one today.
I changed to Stanta Fe Sport from Honda CR-V and after 3 years of Hyundai ownership, I would never go back to Honda again.
I have this car! It’s such a nice car! Caught someone taking photos of this car (my car) outside my house!
I really want one
Wow! You guys are the first to review everything! I love it! Hyundai is getting way to expensive, same with kia. They are not at the level to charge $35,000 for a small suv. For that price you can get a loaded honda pilot, toyota venza etc and they hold their value and are more reliable!
visually autoguide has one of the best, if not best reviews.

Hyundai is improving at making cars. Keep up the good work!
Fomedelv Agreed!

it comes with buying a luxury car, but my wife's '06 Lexus RX has been problem free so far thank God!
I have a Hyundai Sonata 2.4T, and that car is amazing! I can even remotely start my car on a cold weather on my iPhone.
The color is Cabo Bronze, it's beautiful and changes color based on light. Also the reviewer is totally wrong as the 2.0 turbo has plenty of power, you can not compare it to a V-8.
Is this car reliable??

god the square-projector headlamps are stunning..... THIS CAR IS STUNNING!!!!!!
Beautiful automobile! Currently drive a 2007 Tiburon 87k (runs perfect), and partner drives a 2012 Veloster. Would really like to get into a new Santa Fe, very sporty, yet refined looking.
great review, as usual from you guys.

That's your opinion-- Many people like me, absolutely love the interior.
Overall, this car is pretty neat. The only minor things I dislike is the frontal passengers' dramatic-looking air conditioning vents and the reaching for the storage compartment event to get a back-up emergency kit (bandages, tissues, hand sanitizer, Neosporin, etc.).
I generally hate big SUVs, but this new Santa Fe is really appealing. Very sexy and I love that red leather!
The front grills are reminiscent of the Ford Edge.
The host reviewer was right in saying that the vehicle should have at least had power folding side mirrors at that price. Very nice interior though.
really digging the int ext styling, as well as the turbo 4 cylinder.
No. You did not listen. He praises the turbo engine several times, talks about how it's better than the base 2.4 liter and then complains about it being sluggish. Last time I checked, "sluggush" is not an appealing quality in an engine. So this guy clearly contradicted himself.

Can't wait till it becomes available in the market
I'd guess mineral gray. Just noticed today that certain exterior colors only allow one seat color.
I think the main reason is, we don't really like overnight changes. For example, we honor the people who make millions over the years with hard work, but we don't really feel proud of lottery winners, even if the win was not a big prize.

I like how he crossed the double yellow line at around 3.55.
At 3:20 he says it was sluggish uphills, but he was happy about its power he didn't contradict himself you just didn't listen, its only sluggish though due to the turbo lag.
your review's the best, keep it up
for $35,000 you can buy a used 2008 bmw X5 with 30-50k miles but keep in mind it will be a very high maintenance vehicle as big or small repairs repairs will drain your bank account.

I just leased a 2010 toyota corolla, got rid of it, and bought a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Never looking back...
My mother took out a CRV for a spin, then she took my Elantra for a spin for a day. The difference in quality was obvious she said, (to my eXpectation), and comparing the civic to the elantra would just be unfair.
35k is not a lot anymore.
Loaded Camry is around 33k.
Loaded Civic is around 25k.
35k for a loaded, AWD SUV? Reasonable
I think this is THE best looking small SUV around.
totally worth the money considerng the price
I'm happy for you. What do you own?I know others who are happy too.I would have been happy also if Hyundai America would have acknowledged the lemon I bought and taken care of it.They chose to ignore the fact that lemons do come off the line..
damn, these cars are nice now. Only thing they need to re-image is the hyundai logo
For about 2 years now, this car is a head turner for me.
I own a Ford Explorer, but let me tell you, I would buy Hyundai over Ford or Dodge anytime! And did you see the Genesis? Or Genesis Coupe? Hyundai is the future Lexus.
I know this is irrelevant but where was this video shot at? I am just wondering!!
i don't get it. he recommends the 2.0l turbo engine, but then says he's disappointed by the 2.0l turbo engine.
Really nice to see a handsome brotha doing car reviews. We need more. New fan!:) I really want this Santa Fe too!:)
good video dude, the only thing i find strange is how you guys call the brand "Hun-day" and in britain we call it "Hi-yun-die".....i wonder what they call it in Korea?
Good video. Very informative.
Thank you
The new Escape looks like the European Ford Kuga which has been on the road longer than current Kia/Hyundai designs.
Some people may say it's pretty now, but what will you think about it in another couple of years? I'm not so sure about the looks of the Santa Fe.
looks awesome! much better than the earlier model
really good review!
If I was in the market for a SUV I would pick the Santa Fe over the CR-V any day.
what was the problem? did the gears change too slowly, the ride was too bumpy?
You mean the Ford Escape looks like the Santa Fe? Cause the Santa Fe has been in the works before the new Escape was even talked about.
Nice model
Why does he say the 2.0 turbo engine is good for going up inclines and then he says it disappointed him? Did he contradict himself or am I missing something?
I must say though as my mother and I both have eXperienced the 2012 Honda CR-v, it had roughly the same quality as the Honda Civic.
The new santa fe don't have power folding mirror? The older one have those. Or is it an optional extra or only certain trim have it? That's such a small thing to be optional.
Beautiful, the car and the review
At least they try to make the styling innovative. Companies like Honda (cough cough) don't even try and make a great looking design.
i love the video in true hd great job!
I think it's more like the Subaru Tribeca, but they all blend in with the swooping lines, which isn't necessary a bad thing.
Yet another awesome redesign from Hyundai. Next redesign, the Genesis.
im sorry. did you get the new one, or the previous generation?
You guys should test the new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder
awesome review
its well built unlike the ford and chevy
I'm surprised this doesn't have power folding mirrors. The Kia Sorento has it and its older than this car
I have never taken the Sonata for a spin, and by the sounds of it, I am not impressed with it. However, in the interior of the Honda Civic, the materials it displayed appeared to be cut from a bloody cookie cutter. Not the same with the Elantra.
What color is that? Is it the Moonstone Silver, Titanium Silver or Cabo Bronze? It's exactly the color I want to get. Does anyone know?
BMW and Hyundai developers are actually getting together to develop a brand new engine for both of their brands. and BMW makes some of the best engines in the world hands down.
Hyundai has changed a lot, I have the new Azera 2012 and it's an awesome car.
but people are still buying Honda's and Toyota's over Hyundai's because of the name and reliability.
For the AWD option, agreed.
i gotta admit, this thing looks beautiful inside and out...but im wondering just how "premium" the interiors build quality really is... also id like 2 know how well this thing handles... ._.
rear side design is from Acura MDX or RDX?
We have an '07 Santa Fe, SE 3.3 AWD. Always been maintained at the dealer, had two weird problems, one being a recall and another a very rare problem. I have this exact car. What does it mean if the lights turn on but car won't start?
Rear side design is from the Nissan Murano... currently out since 2003 and almost every stylish crossover has copied that design.
LOOKS STUNNING! NICE CAR
wow luks like a spaceship on the inside
WOW this car looks amazing, i was thinking of buying a dodge durango the new one but this looks very practical, stylish and sexy and highly gass effecient, y know what that means : more spending money on yourself instead of always going to car bill :D , movies, vacations, make life really count and make yourself happy.
looks alot similar to the redesigned ford escape
This is a mid-size SUV, not a small SUV. It is less than the Ford Edge when comparably equipped.

In 10 years from now if Hyundai's plans work out, they'll have the same or more brand recognition that Toyota or Honda had.
Looks way nicer in person.
