I was so impressed by the first video in the series that I decided to go through the whole playlist, one by one. I learned so many useful tips in 2 videos. Thank you for sharing
I second that sentiment Trevor. Hearing you talk about the hours involved in making press dies for specific jobs, reminds me of the many occasions I had to explain why such a small job took so long to recreate. Sigh😉🙂👍👍
I've seen a lot of different people making different tools and things. I have to say, I'm really impressed with your ideas. I know I'll end up using them in the shop. That dimple press design can be used for many different things. Great job and thanks again
I am just getting into metal fabrication and this channel is exactly what I need! Looks like there is quite a bit for me to catch up on too. Think I will put the kettle on and hit that PLAY ALL button :) Well done Trev, great work.
Wonderful a true Professional ! Thanks for sharing ! Wonderful Lambrettas as well ! The hair style ,I thought Rocker ,but no Trev's a Mod. Keep up the great work
Great video. I’ve been doing this stuff on the hobbiest level now for over twenty years and yet I’m always learning something new from you! Thank you Trev!
Those lambrettas are awesome! I had a series one and series two and a jet200 back in the day 😁. Love the channel. Been learning a lot from you to do metal work on my bugeye sprite. Thanks.
A good preservative oil is "LPS 3". A bit pricey, but it is a paraffin base aerosol spray and will protect bare steel tools for years. It is suitable for machined and polished crankshaft throws as well. I use it sparingly and will substitute ATF (auto trans fluid) for things that I will use again in less than a year's time. A little wipe-down with ATF will last much much longer than WD-40 and it's as cheap as dirt. I LOVE those little Lambrettas! I just discovered your channel today... nice work! Subscribed & notified!
I love the press tool idea. Great video, clear and precise explanations and results presented in such a way that I want to have a do a making a press tool just to see if I can copy what you did! You are a top man Trev!
Bodywork "fever"given to you by Trev. The music of same name -"Fever"written by Eddie Cooley. Originally performed by Eddie Cooley and The Dimples in 1956. Just a bit of Do Wop trivia for those into that genre. Best to you and yours
G'day Trev, loving these tips! I recently watched all the van build to date and now gone to these tips. I'm not sure what the process is to put them in a play list, but it would be much easier to watch them and possibly find them. currently i go to "your videos" and have to hover the mouse pointer over the description to see #2 etc, because the title is long and it only shows part of it, i think on the mobile phone i'd have trouble finding the next one. i'm very impressed with how you have explained the tools and how each process works. i didn't even think to clean the copper up, as i thought the process was to stop the mig wire doing porcupines on the back side mostly, but understand the function well after you started the weld on the copper before joining the headlight piece. looking forward to getting through to the current "tips" episode Cheers, Dean.
Trev great as always that sqaure dimple press is amazing on the copper on hole filling i always do it backwards were I can copper in front weld from the back if possible less finishing work on the panel
I Like the press, It's nice when something works as planned 😊 I might try making a similar press for creating drain holes in cills i need to replace on the van 👍
Hi Trev, I made myself a tool up, fortunately I had a clamp from my old job of 15 years ago lurking in my toolbox, two 6 mm plates and bolts. I just had to make up the thin steel plate superglued them in, and bingo, not as good as your one but looks good for what I want Thanks for showing me the way Peter
Some prestretch on the work piece will help with any distortion but it worked well. Guys do that prior to rolling beads with a jenny as well. I expect you know this but maybe it will help someone. Enjoyed the video.
Trev, The old screwdriver trick..... Metal forming: The constant in metal forming is material volume. Material has to go some where when the inside radius is formed. It's either going to fold over on itself (getting thicker) or shrink (getting thicker). In either case volume of material remains the same. I bet if you measured lip thickness in the radius it would be ~1.2mm. Have you addressed the question of material quality and or specification? Do you purchase a specific grade of steel?
almost getting flashbacks watching these vids: lambretta-quadrophenia-the who, music at the end-the munsters- eddie munsters car, the lorry-ian dury-"itinerant child"..and so on...and so on..
Hey up Trev, love the channel. I only found it last week and love the build too. I've just started welding and found your tips very helpful so keep them coming. Are you on Instagram, and what's the engine noise from on the intro lol?
i appreciated the copper for filling a hole , thats one where be it i dont do alot welding of this type but when i do i hope to remember that tip, stupid easy and worth its weight in gold or ummm copper
Hey, I know it's an old video, but in your opinion is there any effective way of cleaning and preparing pitted metal surface without shotblasting? I really can't sandblast in my tiny garage so if there is any good way of doing it, would be nice. I've heard good things about Fertan rust converter, which seems to be only rust converter which actually works and does a good job. Best wishes!
In my own personal experience I have never found a rust converter or remover that works particularly well. Wire brushes on angle grinders then finish off with a clean and strip wheel, parts small enough to submerge in citric acid works well on body parts (I’ve done a video on it) or removable panels could be taken to a place that does shot blasting. Cheers Trev 👍
@@trevsblog Thanks for your reply, so would wire wheel on an angle grinder and then clean and strip wheel get rid of rust in the pits so that it would be ready for epoxy primer? Or should I etch prime the surface and then epoxy prime it before filler work?
@@ERKOJORKO if it’s not being shot blasted you won’t get rid of all of the rust easily but you can get it almost as good. Epoxy straight over the top of the bare steel 👍
I was so impressed by the first video in the series that I decided to go through the whole playlist, one by one. I learned so many useful tips in 2 videos. Thank you for sharing

Really like your technique of rounding the corners of your patch panels. Certainly takes more time than a straight cut, but no corners!
Really informative and simply explained, thank you very much! Lots of motivation for me now 👍🏻

Dude, you've got to be proud of those juicy welds. Peace
Nice work, however, I would like to see you press the areas you did. Is there any more video on that?
