to the people of New Zealand Lomu is the most famous person in the world for a time. Even today you could say the word lomu and everyone knows who he was even if born after his death. Guy changed rugby forever.
The England captain Will Carling was asked his opinion of Jonah Lomu, his response was, " The guy is a freak and the sooner ge goes away the better!" Off handed praise indeed.😊
So in 95, he made a mockery of Andy Cat, the English number 15, How England still played him in 99, I don't know. The Boks are the only team that had a strategy against this man, and it was "Never alone", you don't take him on 1v1. This man changed the thought of traditional defense. What a legend.
JOOST TOOK HIM DOWN . ONE ON ONE , JAPIE MULDER TAKLED HIM ALONE , HENRY HONIBALL TACKELED HIS PANTS OF HIM, THERE IS VIDEO FOOTAGE , SO YEAH , THERE WHERE GUYS THAT TOOK HIM DOWN ONE ON ONE
That's Mike Catt - England fullback At that time.....Mike was the very first paid professional in the game......Jonah made sure though that he should be headlining the professional game forever with that try against Eng in WC semi 1995 ...
All blacks = the most winning sports team in history....any sport. Lomu was 6ft 5", 120kg and ran the 100m in 10.8 seconds. Plus he was agile and could hit like a train. A total gentleman off the field as well. I got to see him play for Auckland vs Queensland in a pre-season game at Ballymore in the late 90's. Watching them warm up, Jonah looked enormous on the wing, training with the backs. Then he went over and stood beside the forwards and he was taller than almost all of them too.... That night he was up against Ben Tune - a very good, 100kg test winger for Australia. Tune was just a speed bump all night long. Jonah terrorised him....not for the first or last time. People say he was the first rugby global superstar...but has there ever really been another? Maybe Dan Carter or Richie McCaw rank higher in history. But before Jonah, wingers were always small, zippy players...he changed the game. Coming up against someone that big, that agile, that fast, you have to change or you are going to lose by 50. NFL teams were lining up for this guy early in his career, but every NZ kid wants to be an All Black...probably why they have been so good for so long.
NFL vs Rugby game. Given enough time for both sides to learn the rules and nuances of both games it might be interesting concept, the best NFL players vs AB. Explosive Strength & Speed vs Technical Skills & Sustained Pressure. You never know it could lead to a new hybrid of the game or at the very least open a few eyes as to how they can improve their game.
@@COUNTYGAINS Sad story though, looked this guy up and didn't know he had passed. There are some really good Hawaiian, Samoan and Pacific Islanders that are awesome American football players. Do some NFL playoff videos please.
THE BIGGEST BEAST IN RUGBY!!
30 YEARS AHEAD OF HIS TIME IN STRENGH AND SIZE!!
The crazy thing is as well that for a portion of his career he was dealing with kidney disease and was on dialysis. Legendary 😊
