@@klipser66 I worked as an assistant in Belgium, now I'm studying for veterinarian (I'm in my masters program years). Until now, there were only two times that I cried, it was during my first internship. It was the first time I had the permission of the vet to really assist with surgery (castration, so nothing special) instead of only watching. I was constantly monitoring the dog, I said on a given moment that there was a little bit more time between the breaths, about 5 seconds. The vet stopped immediately with what she was doing, and indeed, it took longer than normal. Despite starting reanimation practically immediately after the dog stopped with breathing, there was nothing to do anymore, after half an hour we decided to stop trying. Bless you...I know the agony of having a beloved dog on borrowed time.... We had a dear Lurcher, who developed a tiny limp that wouldn't respond to rest.. x ray 2 weeks later showed the first signs of bone cancer. It was a hot day, but when the vet showed me the results, my blood ran cold as ice. The heavy heartedness of 'pre grieving'' was dreadful..but my worry was that we wouldn't know when the time was right..but one day Twiggy let us 'know'....she looked deeply into my eyes, and she did the same to my son..then, when a friend called, she climbed into his car and put her nose to his face.. I thought ''oh...she is saying ''goodbye..'' [my throat aches even now, 10 years after].. next morning she went downhill, not eating, and I called the vet out .. It was such a peaceful passing, I still dream of her, as does my son. Our other dog needed euthanasia too, if you can arrange it, home euthanasia is much less stressful for all. Hope your dear dog's pain can be controlled so he can enjoy his life for a while yet.
I'm not gnna lie, I cried watching this. The evolutionary bond between dog and man is so strong because we both depended on each other for survival, the doggos would alert us when there was danger, and get rewarded with warmth, love, and food in return for their vigilance.
I was born two weeks after my parents adopted my German Shepherd brother, he was a month older than me. As a single child it was incredibly painful to put him down but it would have been devastating to see him suffering, he was in constant and unbearable pain since his back legs and hip gave up after years of jogging every day with my father. He was 15. I know we will meet again, my brother. Rest in peace Silver.
Agreed. I got two Dachshunds in 2009 and having owned my business they went to work with me every day My male had to be put down in 2022..Absolutely heartbroken as he was as loyal as a dog could be. My female will be 15 in June. She to is just a loyal wonderful little thing… I know many people who could learn lots from our dogs…..
Our Lab decided she wanted to play with a toy after given the first injection. It was the hardest thing to watch when she soon fell asleep. Then the Vet administered the second injection and it was over. On 07/17/2020 I lost my best friend.
Losing a pet is hard. Especially someone like Zesus, who not only was a part of a family, but a police department also. Thank you for your service Zeus. May you rest in peace. You are already missed by so many who loved you.
I put my chihuahua down last year, she had a cancer in her mouth and eventually it got too much. I remained sad but calm dignified, however my mother cried all the way there and said the vet trip messed her up. Recently I’ve heard that if you put a dog down, there is a look in their eyes that means “thank you”, and I feel that is a good thing and comfort for any dog owner to not feel bad for their decision. Rest in peace Zeus, you served people outside your state and country proud. Love from Maine.

The hardest thing I ever had to due was have my dog Clinger put to sleep 2 years ago, he was 15 1/2 years old but a tumor finally won. We took him to the vet, after talking with the vet, we were going to leave the room but I had to stay with him because while he was laying on the table he got the strength to get up and walk over to me and lay down in my arms and give me a final lick on the check, he stayed loyal to me until the end. He was there for me so I had to be loyal and be there for him. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but knew it was the best thing that had to be done and I will see him again one day. He was my best friend. This video brought me to tears because I know how that officer and his family members felt. This was a great honor and tribute for both Zeus and his partner, friend and family. Zeus, thank your loyalty and service.

In this case they treat animals better than humans. Euthanasia for humans is still not legal in most countries, and while a sick dog can be put down, a sick human unable to travel to countries like Switzerland is left to suffer miserably until the last day.
In tears over this. My "little sister" Azlyn was a K9 dog as well, she got her name on a plaque with a beautiful statue in memory of her passing and retirement. She was a fantastic police officer and an even better member of our family. REST IN PEACE you big goof.
I almost lost my dog a couple months ago and she is certainly getting up there in age. I know it is coming within the next year or two at most. So far she is doing great but I can't help but feel the fear and pain of losing her sometimes. She has slept in my bed every night since she was a puppy (except the one night she was at the vets). @@mikejung1582 had the vet come to my house because my great dane couldn't walk or even stand and was way to heavy and awkward to get into truck. Yes Zeus was an invaluable member of the Police Forces, he was treated to a respectful honoring of his heroic K9 Service He was an officer risking his life and instinctively follow all his Partner quiet orders , perceiving danger, protecting his partner from harm and a stoping endless crimes through out his life of service to the Police Forces. I also know he felt he was to be put to sleep, his eyes know what is about to happen to him, he witnessed no doubt other canines sacrifices and respectful mourning from other K9 in other last walks. In other cases recognition has been done a couple of days before. A quiet date to the veterinarian is better, with love and reasurance from his partner.
Foxy army..it is so painful when a young dog dies especially. Dogs are great friends to all ages of people, I think you are right, their Soul remains.
I'm not gnna lie, I cried watching this. The evolutionary bond between dog and man is so strong because we both depended on each other for survival, the doggos would alert us when there was danger, and get rewarded with warmth, love, and food in return for their vigilance.
