The individual versions of Pink Floyd's iconic album 'Animals 2018 Remix' will be available to purchase from 16th September on CD, LP, Blu-ray and SACD in stunning 5.1 Surround Sound for the first time ever.
The Deluxe Gatefold version includes LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD and a 32-page book. The Blu-ray and DVD audio include the 2018 remix in Stereo, 5.1 Surround (both by James Guthrie) and the original 1977 Stereo mix. The 32-page booklet features rarely seen behind the scenes photographs of the album sleeve shoot along with live images and memorabilia. The album artwork has been reimagined for this release.
Animals is a concept album, focusing on the social-political conditions of mid-1970s Britain, and was a change from the style of the band’s earlier work. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which describes the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of animals. Taking inspiration from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the album depicts the different classes of people as animals with pigs being at the top of the social chain, dropping down to the sheep as the mindless herd following what they are told, with dogs as the business bosses getting fat on the money and power they hold over the other. Although it’s been a long time since 1977, the narrative of the album still resonates today as our social and economical situation mirrors that of the time.
The album's iconic cover shows an inflatable pig (now known as Algie) floating between two chimneys of the Battersea Power Station, conceived by Roger Waters, and designed by long-time collaborator Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis Studios. For this new release, the artwork has been re-designed for the modern era by Storm’s Hipgnosis partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell. Taking new shots of the building as it appeared during the recent conversion work, Po experimented with new angles and produce some striking new takes on the classic original. Po elaborates: “With the original 1977 album cover being such an iconic piece of stand-alone art, I had the chance to update it, which was a rather daunting task, but Hipgnosis took the opportunity to re photograph the image to reflect a changing world, and by using modern digital colouring techniques I kept Pink Floyd’s rather bleak message of moral decay using the Orwellian themes of animals, the pig ‘Algie’, faithful to the message of the album.”

I saw Waters in the 90s and I saw Pink Floyd in the 80s and I was content at both but I enjoyed Floyd the most. Still the best show I've ever seen.

The whole song builds to this point and then the theme of the story is resolved - the release of death I interpret it as.
I like the way this version makes Richard's keyboards front and center in the mix. Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album. I have more bootleg concerts of the Animals tours than any other. If only they (Dave) would sign off on an official live album recorded off of the board. And If I only had the luck to pick the correct 6 numbers on the lottery.
Claypools Frog Brigade does the best animals after Floyd imo
also the original LP has this very irritating cut to the singing in sheep, this 2018 remix kinda hides it and i think i like it better

@@eric_bentley Actually they sabotaged David's work on Sheep and Pigs (3 Different Ones). While bringing up Richard's levels out of the depths of Leviathan they squashed David's levels down to almost nonexistent.
The Animals tour was peak Floyd as far as I'm concerned. The Wall was a faded attempt to capture the power and rage of the In The Flesh performances.
The "stone, stone, stone..." continuing since Dogs at 4:05 is awesome

My best friend was there. I couldn't go. He told me about it the next day. Every time i listen to it I think it must have been the best concert ever.

A DJ friend swapped my 2 tickets for the 2 Press Passes that his station received... Trust me, when I say Pink Floyd are really great to hang out and party with...!!! This is just one more example of the genius of Pink Floyd, one of the greatest bands in music history.

rick is just beyond belief, leaving space for each chord and note to breathe. Oh my god.
Animals is up there as one of my favorite Floyd albums. There's an aggressive, dirty grit to the sound, and they say the band was influenced by the emerging punk movement at the time. Despite this, it's still one of the most prog-sounding records they've ever made.
Up there? It is by far the best. The older and more cynical you become, the better this Orwellian album gets with every passing day.
Your description of 'dirty grit to the sound' is a masterful if you don't mind me saying.
I couldn't have said that. You said it for me though. Yep the dirtiness mimics human corruption of not only each other but the natural environment in the pursuit of power.
It was based on George Orwell's works this album. As true as it was in 1977 it's a thousand times more true today.

David’s guitar work at the end of this masterpiece is just sublime
My favourite track from Pink Floyd, all aspects from it. The way the song introduces you to a nice chill beginning with the keyboard, then ungulates from intense & calm, high & low, rapid & slow; all for it to end with possibly one of the best guitar solos/riffs I personally think there is. Absolutely wonderful track.
Nick and Rick are much more clear and distinguishable in this mix. Love it, was at the 5/6/77 show in Anaheim, amazing.

Where would this album be without the "pollitical (sic) waffle"? This is Waters near his best. If he'd had the band together for 'Amused to Death', it would have been the undisputed pinnacle of 20th century music.

Lucky!! I was 10 in 77 but I was completely familiar with this album and definitely DSOTM. All credit goes to my awesome n progressive mom. Many many nights of DSOTM playing while we kids were sleeping. My mom saw PF twice in LA. RIP mom, hope you're listening to em where you are.

I was listening Animals, for the first time, on the speakers and i fell asleep (a tiring day, don't think bad of it) and i awoke for no reason when the last riff where sounding (8:07). I felt very confused, at first it sounded like a "cartoon like" funny riff, but as i regained consciousness i felt a wave of emotions shaking me, not just the "fun" but also a kind of "happy freedom" and nostalgia, all at once... I felt disconcerted. even now i cannot describe exactly the sensation of it.. but it has undoubtedly become accidentally on one of my personal favorites riffs from Floyd.
