This is the first I have heard of the Polestar 3, but I'm aggressively interested in Polestar as a brand and glad my first look was with Jonny!
First video I watched with Jonny and I'm very impressed. You covered EVERYTHING and therefore answered most of the questions I had about this vehicle.
Lately I'm least interested in big super expensive new cars, but I always like a good review by Jonny.
I rather buy an older car and completely rebuild it myself! Even if I invest about 20K in parts it's worth it! These EV's are junk!! I travel a lot!!!! Who wants to waste hours charging their stupid car lol!!! On top of that all these crazy fancy electronics, who knows what's going to fail!
@@kafilkavich707 I really like the "PS3" ill be buying one (my first EV lol) if the fit, finish and feel is all up to standard. That being said i will keep my ICE cars around for really really long journeys and fun times. I like to modify cars and I love Japanese 90s cars so i have 3 currently lol I’m modernising them while giving them more oomph so for example my R33 GTR is on its way to a Dual Clutch gearbox to replace the manual, my P11 Primera GT saloon has got new interior with touch screen, Bluetooth phone connectivity and the like. Older cars just lack some of the refinement I want in something I’m going to travel in. For a weekend thrash it doesn’t matter so I’ll leave my other Skyline without all the comfort stuff and just focus on the driving experience but I do feel older cars need that investment if you want them to match a newer car in refinement terms.
The only EV reviews I trust thank you Jonny cant wait for a full review and test drive
Thank you, this means a lot. Jonny has strived for a long time to bring his EV interest to the table, and that will remain a major part of TLBS.

Brilliant video as ever, and impressed at the speed The Late Break Show got this video put out, and the depth of coverage Jonny achieved in the short time people had with the car.
Was great to chat during the event and on our journey back to BHX. Keep up the amazing content, one of my fav channel and personalities.

Brilliant, impressive vehicle, great video. Can’t see myself in a Tesla but I can in a Polestar. Thanks, Jonny.
Jonny love your reviews … thanks for doing such a great job.
Man I really enjoyed your time with the polestar 3 explaining things in detail. That is
what I love about your shows, very detailed.
That polestar 3 is beautiful. Keep up that great work with the reviews or in this case, preview.
Great content, well presented as we've come to expect Jonny!
Also looks like a very decent car, however.....£80k!!!!!
The side profile has more than a whiff of the Renault Scenic about it...good/bad entirely up to you!
Cheers.
Great vid Jonny, straight to the point as always - had your vid open in a Chrome tab since morning, watching it over dinner alone is a pleasure! cheers from Portugal
I like that! I’m keen to see it when it’s launched. I suspect the boot space will be a lot smaller than my Q7 though which is often packed full for family holidays, climbing trips, camping trips etc. if I can fit a tow bar and / or roof box that would help.
"But if it sells, call it an SUV, I don't give a shit" 😂😂
Beautiful car, but out of my price range. I'm getting the Polestar 2 SM SR soon. Best review so far about the P3. Keep up the good work Jonny! 💪
Always a fantastic review and a pleasure to watch 👍🏾🥇🏆
Thank you for the video. It's such a shame they decided to not option a 3rd row since neither the future line up appears to have any plans for a 7 seat product. It's a pretty car & I can imagine the B&W sound system to be absolutely amazing. However, given the size of the car I'm also disappointingly surprised how relatively small the boot/frunk size is.
I guess it's the difference between Volvo and Polestar. They want to distinguish between the brands.
Note that the floor in the rear is nearly flat. I would guess that they are using that space for batteries or some part of the EV systems, and so there's no room to put the footwells for a third-row seat.
“It’s not an SUV But if it sells… call it an SUV.. I don’t give a shit” just the honesty with that statement 🤣🤣 long time follower of Johnny since Fifth Gear days. Keep going. Love the notepad read reviews
I love my Polestar 2 and was looking at something bigger next. Would have loved to get one of these but the price is nuts. My PS2 lease is only £370 a month, looking at the lease on PS3 its nearly £1k a month. That is just crazy. Cars are just way too expensive these days.
Prices have sure gone up a lot over the last 12 months. You did very well to get a P2 for £370, which quite a bit cheaper than most.
How do you feel about the PS2's packaging? It has road presence but reviewers call it cramped inside. From the makers of legendary estates, it does shy me away easily based on cargo specs and who boxed in the front seats look...
The 4 will be the volume seller for Polestar. It's a bit smaller than this but a similar format.
It's an £80k+ car and it's new hence high leasing costs. Leasing costs always reduce after a a model has been put for a couple of years, still with 10k deposit i think you'd still be looking north of £700 a month at best for this.
Once again a great review, keep up the great work
Really interesting and excellent quality intro review. Think you’re right about the SUV/estate car thing too.
Great intro review!
It does seem too expensive and heavy for quite a nice car. I wish the front bonnet space had been better used (either move cabin forwards like Jag i-pace, or F-150 frunk)
It is expensive, and the estimated mileage is sub-par. They are going to have a difficult time selling enough units to break even, especially with a bunch of new, lower cost EV's ready to hit market in '23/24...
Ridiculously expensive. More expensive than both a Mach E and a Model Y.
Seeing you stood beside the car I'm quite surprised at the dimensions, thought it would be so much bigger ... anyway, I like it because it does seem more like a wagon to me, and a lot of the design details remind me of my C40, which I've really come to like ... I'm interested in the 4 (or the 2), as this car is too expensive for me. Cheers and keep up the great content!
You are looking at £35k+ to lease a mid spec RS3 for 3 years. Polestar 2 around £30k. Serious commitment. There are 90+ 2022 RS3 kicking around the trade at the moment - for a car that was being 'over paid for' earlier this year....
It is two inches shorter in length and 5 inches shorter in height than the XC90 so
Yea, I thought this maybe a 3 row from pics, useful space is really disapointing. Oh well looks like I'm keeping my (bigger) Model Y.
It's a crossover (i.e. CUV), neither an SUV nor an estate. How he didn't realize it I don't know.
very detailed, Thank you! Wait for EX90 review!
Totally with you on the station wagon thing. Apart from that great short presentation, thanks.
This is why Jonny’s reviews are the go to, the little references to other cars, calling out the why the long bonnet elephant in room, this could have been been snub nosed and removed some of the stupidly long issues SUVs and big estates have, maybe they would have been borrowing too much from I-Pace if they did that 🧐
80k seems an insane price
Looks amazing really well done style wise if I could afford it I would buy it 100%. Johnny on a road test in it next please..!! Great video
Something ironic about Jonny reading from a notepad about a car with a computer screen for all of its settings. I'd like to think this iPad fad is just a fad. I wonder if the road safety investigation branch acknowledge the contradiction that it's illegal to use a phone when driving but ok to fiddle with a touch screen every time you need to change the temperature etc.
Touching screens to change settings is long gone !
Google voice is amazing - you can change the temperature of the climate, activate the front or rear seat heating and the heated steering wheel by speaking.
The car has adaptive cruise and active safety systems, so most of the time it's driving by itself anyway.
Most of the settings are stuff that you will set up before you start driving, the rest can either be controller through voice or have buttons to control, like a regular car.
@@SDK2006b > most of the time
I'm not denying the usefulness of active safety and adaptive cruise, but most of the time only if most of your driving is done on the motorway. Otherwise no.
The Polestar 2 was so popular because it’s a normal car in every way a Tesla isn’t, and I see no reason this doesn’t do exactly the same. I’m sure these will be everywhere!
Except that at ~40k the polestar 2 was somewhere near the target price for middle class commuters. This is literally double at a time when the main complaint levels against EVs is price. I get that Polestar want to be considered a luxury brand, but the appeal of the 2 was the price- and they've kind of blown that out the water here.
@@hamsterminator I don’t think you know just how expensive massive Li-Ion batteries are…..
@@hamsterminator the thing is though, this isn’t aimed at other SUVs in the bracket, it’s aimed at potential Tesla buyers. The Polestar 2 was too, just the Model 3 while this is going against the Model X. It’s a Tesla for people put off by some of Tesla’s Teslaness.
The polestar 2 is hardly a cheap car btw, it’s pushing 50 grand with the long range battery.
Enjoy the details Johnny, good job as always.
Really great overview! Thanks Jonny!
Love Jonny's reviews, thorough and detailed yet still engaging, almost the opposite to the Clarkson style. I like the look of the PS3 and as the current choices for estate ev are mg and taycan I would like the ps3 more than a full SUV. I will wait for the cheaper versions though. I had a Tesla model 3 previously and had a ps2 whilst the TM3 was being repaired. The PS2 was a great car. I just prefer estates due to the practical side but don't like the excessiveness of SUVs
Great video. You covered lots of stuff that other journalists haven't in their videos of the Polestar 3 over the last day or two. Your comparing this to a Cross Country wagon (XC70) was very eye-opening to me, with the low height plus large ground clearance as "proof". I'm a rare American who owns an XC70 (2001 version that I just can't part with) and loves the Cross Country form, so this is a real enticement to me. One thing that no UA-camr reviewing this car has done yet is show it with the rear seats down; I'd like to see that. I'm wondering, also, how these can peak at 250 kW DC charging with 400-volt architecture; I'd heard it would be getting close to 800 volts, but that appears to have been false information. I also think they should offer this car with 19-inch wheels standard, and with all-metal roof standard and without air suspension standard (would reduce weight and cost by perhaps 10-15 percent, and perhaps increase the range by a similar amount). I hope you're right about the expensive sound system not being standard (I'd thought it was standard, also pushing up the price needlessly). Also, you're the first UA-camr I've seen to show the frunk; yes, it is disappointingly small, as a larger frunk would help to make up for reduced storage space in this lifted "coupe"-style estate wagon. The tracking of metals for the batteries is also something I wasn't aware of (4:30), and that's good for US sales because the new US law states that battery minerals can't come from places like China or Russia several years from now. And you're the first to point out (10:10) that the crazy lettering on the exterior of the car, which I thought were removable decals, are not removable; what is Polestar thinking here in this tackiness??? I fully agree with you that this is more a lifted wagon than an SUV; if anything, it might be the best definition of "crossover", which has always been ill-defined but which I've taken to be a melding of a lifted wagon and an SUV. I can't wait for UA-camrs like you to be able to drive this and post videos discussing the driving dynamics.
Great comment. I wanted to love a new Polestar wagon but this isn't it. Keep that cross-country for a long as you can, friend.
This car looks and sounds really promising! Great walk around/first look, I enjoyed it very much!
My wife owns the Volvo XC 40
Recharge, can definitely see many familiarities. Good detailed review as always Jonny 👍🏻
Such a distinct design! Loved it. One of the rarest occasions I'd choose design over function in comparison to another "better" choice.
I'm not really into EVs and I'm not into SUVs, but I really dig this one (although I agree that it's a lifted estate). Design is just spot on in my opinion!
Amazing summary of the PS3, I'm not sure if the notebook is part of the fashion but it work, genius 👍
It's like a stretched Chevrolet Bolt EUV with a Jaguar I-PACE hood spoiler and rocker panel covers. It's pretty much Volvo's version of the I-PACE, even though I think the I-PACE was more cutting edge design than this P3. Definitely not cabin forward design with that long ass hood. Having owned an I-PACE and now a Volvo C40, I am more excited about what Volvo's version of this will look like.
Great video !
I've been driving a Polestar 2 for two years and have ordered a Polestar 3 LR. Can't wait for it to arrive next November ⚡👍
Congrats! But having to wait until next November, huh.One would expect the Chinese owners make sure that it hits the market sooner:))
@@drunkenwhiskeyeu - The lease on my Polestar 2 doesn't end until next October, so the delayed delivery is actually helpful.

Always enjoy these walk throughs. The price of new cars is starting to look - well bizarre is the only I word I can summon up.
Off topic but just learning how many unsold 'new' RS3s there are 🤔....
The leasing price in Germany for a ps3 is over 1700euro /month x 36. I got a hickup seeing the price for nio et7 the other day 1100euro / month. But this is just crazy, who has this kind of money?
Agree - with other increasing living costs I can see most new car sales collapsing from 2023...
@@bjornandersson31 Its not about that sticker price, for many, like me it could be a potential for vehicle leasing schemes through salary at work.
So aftertax saved it could be significantly less.
What do you mean about the RS3s? I would have thought any new Audi RS model would be quite popular on leasing schemes, is this not the case?
@@flyingpanhandle You're right, so many companies in order to look "green" are offering salary sacrifice, effectively the same as bike to work scheme so you can get an electric car for very reasonable money using something like that.
Once you said it had a huge battery and cost £80 grand, I realised I don't care if it an estate or an SUV and stopped watching.
Bloat in the car industry is becoming an epidemic.
I have a R5 on order, so you know which way I lean.
I really hope that jumper choice was deliberate 😊
The best thing about Polestar vehicles? The Avery vinyl transfer badging they use that looks like they decided to create the badges at the last minute so used the laser printer down in the accounting department to run them up after making a template in PowerPoint.
Best review I have seen from today's glut. Certainly don't think anyone else said 'shit' at any point in their review. 😁
Great in-depth video... very nice car indeed.. but fisker ocean seems to be better option in terms of price and range...
Spa 2 not the corner shop 😂 so glad you cleared that possible confusion up Jonny!
In process of looking at an ev, starting a new job and the commute is 80 mile round trip. An ev is looking more and more tempting, especially with fuel starting to creep up again. Plus I get to charge for free at work!
Enjoyable video, as always. Love your style.
We are getting to the point now that £80k on a car is considered normal. Yet we were told EVs were simpler . If you take a more budget brand then is this car 2.5 x the car of say an MG. great car but I don’t think I can justify the cost. Brilliant reviews like always.
It is still early days. Once the supply chains move towards ev more they will become comodity goods.
There is still an early adopters tax on ev's.
They only sell fully loaded vehicles because that is where the margins are.
Once the chinese steam up in europe things will change quickly.
I'm continuously disappointed by how much these "ground-up" electric platforms are still so heavily influenced by conventional car design... Conventional cars are designed around internal combustion drivetrains! Why can't we have something new and really out there? I mean, this PS3 does look nice, but it's 2022, I want some futuristic shit!
People say they want futuristic, but then don’t actually buy them, so we get this instead
Look at Citroen for futuristic, funky and bold design. In particular they’re new, albeit concept, Oli.
Two things I didnt think I wanted - 1, a 'SUV' - this looks stunning! And 2, that red notebook!
I want the orange seat belts!!!
You can keep the rest of the ridiculously overpriced, unnecessary metal box on wheels.....!
Car's like this are the exact reason why I'm tiptoeing into EV at the moment (short term/subscription). This is essentially a BMW IX50 (Power / Range / Capacity), but £30,000 cheaper, and 100% better looking.
I think it's a cracking looking car, great spec for range/charging, and in the grand scheme of things - very very reasonably priced. Mega stuff, never thought I'd be excited about a Polestar!
As soon as you got to the price of £80,000 I stopped watching. That’s more than double the average yearly salary in the uk.
Surely the ‘buy it now’ price is irrelevant as most people will lease one. If there are good deals to be had and interest rates come down it will be much more competitive than the price suggests.
Love what they've done with this one. My favorite Polestar so far. Size-wise it seems to fit into that same size/shape range as the new Cadillac EV. Could also be similar in size to the etron SUV, the Mach E, the Jag iPace, Toyota bZ4x, Kia EV6? Seems like a popular solution to mix interior space, range, and battery footprint.
I too would like to see more attention paid to the idea of a full-size SUV EV. Just because its electric doesn't mean we don't need to haul a bunch of stuff now and then.
Great review. Right on so many fronts, it is a new class of estate/SUV. Stunning design and yes, many people will buy this. Our dogs will love it, tip the rear seats and throw down a blanket.
I can see bright future for EV industry. Great that so many car makers are actually making exciting electric cars. I have been driving EV for over 6 years now and back then we didn't have much choice. Today pretty much all brands are making EV . However ill stick with my MG4 which i bought last week for now. Brilliant Review Jonny as always
What's exciting about driving a car you have to waste hours a week charging? lol On top of that who knows what will fail on it. These cars are also not cheap and by the time you have paid off half your loan and out of warranty, I can promise you repairs will not be cheap, my friend is a tech for Tesla and he said he would never own one lol
@@kafilkavich707 Uhmm - you do realise you don't have to stand there holding the charge plug (the way you do a petrol pump nozzle), right? Just plug in and go do something else.
@@logicalChimp Oh cool let's hang out at a charging station for 35min LOL!!! Like what the heck am I going to do at the gas station for over 30min LOL!!! Maybe I could try to find a hooker or something and show them how cool I am charging my EV? What if someone else is using the only charger and I'm out of juice? The gas station by my house only has 1 charger, so basically I'm stuck for over an hour. Let me tell you these EV cars are not ready for the public. I say give it another 20-30 years. If they had less electronics and could charge in less than 5min, then maybe I would consider, but currently again they are all junk!
Fantastic video as always Jonny but the price point for new cars at the moment is eye watering.
£90k for an estate car is way too much and there are a lot more family cars on the market for a lot less money.
As you said the car appeals to a certain Saab style customer who’s willing to pay for the brand over anything else.
Where do you get that 90k number from? Fully-loaded top-of-the-range model, as shown here, is 80k. Base model will be 60k, which is a fair price for a 4.9m premium SUV (it's not a wagon). Show me premium BEV SUVs in that size that are less.
@@TheUrbanEpicure it’s £80k base, performance option is £6k on top - plus any optional extras you want, by the time it’s on the road you’ll be close to £90k.
Best BEV at the moment would be a MG4 in my opinion, based on it’s cost and that an average house hold can aim to purchase (granted it has a smaller boot than the PS3).
Thanks for another great walk around Jonny. For me it's a tall estate car ..... as is the Skoda Enyak EV
Great informative video Jonny and looks like a great EV, it’s just the price! About £20k over the top
The 80,000 price is not an “anyway”. That’s the main sticking point as it’s 20,000 - 40,000 overpriced compared to competitors in this size segment.
This is a BMW iX and Model X class and size car - it's under priced compared to those.
The Model Y is a smaller, less luxury car
@@SDK2006b I don’t think you are correct about the dimensions. They are charging X prices but this is Y sized. It’s similar sized also to a Kia EV6 and the Nissan Ariya.
@@Jeddin - You need to check the dimensions. The Polestar 3 is pretty much identical sized to the X. It's 30cm longer, taller and wider than the Y and EV6.
Very excited for this. Finally some proper towing capacity in an EV that’s not huge like a Model X or BMW iX
Model Y can tow 3.5T, so 50% more, has more inside space, a lot more cargo capacity and it's cheaper. Why the hell would someone buy this over a model y?
Except maybe for a particular dislike of the brand or Elon musk which is not rational but understandable.
@@FraiseVache that would be great. Where did you get that info? I saw Model Y is rated to tow 1600 kg in UK.
@@vladx2 my bad, it was written in pounds and I misread it. You're right. 2.4T is actually pretty good compared to 1.6. It's the polestar that's in fact 50% better than the model y. What a huge mistake on my part. Though the model y still has a lot to stack against the polestar. I'm not sure the additional towing capacity justifies the added sticker price. But 1.6T can be quite short on some occasions.
I'm thinking than with electric cars it's very hard to get a good one that can do everything just right. We have to choose one that's at a reasonable sticker and gets our more common use case covered and rent something else on the rare occasions our choice does not fit. The Ford lightning is probably a very good rent 😂
realllllly cool designs, love the understated lines in it!
Those black elements on the front wheel arches?
According to the Polestar website, they are part of a package that consists of "...12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 radars (and) 5 cameras..." though it doesn't make it clear which parts of that package they are. 👍
Love Polestar and everything they are doing. The design and brand is so much more stealth cool than most other brands. They also manage to make Tesla seem extremely run of the mill.
Great review as always Jonny!
These cars look mega, far nicer to look at than a Tesla 😊👍
I have a Tesla Model 3 and i have to agree with you. I also find the design of the Polestar 3 much nicer.
@@kraenk12 We are only addressing the visual here. The price is a separate topic. ✌️
The backend design reminds me a bit of the P1800ES.
I’m excited too. It’s a fine looking car and I’m sure the long range capability will assuage a lot of buyers, unsure of whether to migrate from their internal combustion engined cars. Had I the dosh lying around, I’d certainly give this some serious consideration.
I think waiting for the Polestar 5 is probably a better bet. Hopefully it'll be a much nicer car, and the design of it certainly makes more sense.
Polestar 3 looks good. The standard adaptive air suspension and Dolby Atmos sound system will appeal to a lot of potential customers. It has hepa filters to clean the air in the cabin like Tesla's bio-weapon defense system - which is good to see. I'm hoping that at some point they will produce a cheaper single motor version as they did with the Polestar 2. PSNY stock is under $6 right now and Polestar is selling/making more cars than Lucid & Rivian. Polestar is on target for 50k deliveries by the end of this year.
I like the styling and the minimalist, sustainable approach. I just think this is super niche at over $80k. In this price range you go for roomier iX or etron. Or for about $20k-$30k less you can go for Mach-e or Lyriq. I am big fan of Polestar 2, but would not get one because for the same money I could get a much more practical Model Y or cheaper Model 3. I was hoping that Polestar 3 would address the Polestar 2’s lack of room with a slightly higher sticker price. But disappointed in the minimal incremental storage and a roughly $20k relative to Polestar 2. But cool looking car nevertheless and looking forward to seeing these on the road.
Ingenlath made it clear this car would be very expensive. He said it would be Porsche Cayenne priced. The Polestar 4 is the car that will be more priced like the Lyriq. This car has a ton of passenger room, just not a lot of cargo room.
The Polestar 2 are increasingly common here in Switzerland. I'm holding out for the PS5 or PS6... those things are gorgeous, and, if I can HODL with my PSNY shares - who knows, I might just be able to afford one by the time they're on the market. ;) That's the plan, anyway. Absolutely love the incredible design aesthetics of the Polestar vehicles.
Hooray! At 08:08 they finally designed it correctly. I disliked Polestar 2's gappy front grille and thought it was hard to clean any debris caught inside. For Polestar 3, this looks like the front is pragmatically and stylishly designed 👍😄
Appreciate the blue and yellow theme of your clothes and sneakers to match the Swedish flag! 🇸🇪
Car is very handsome and price doesn't seem crazy for what you're getting. Welcome back estates!
It's not an estate though. Something like the Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo are. They're about 20cm lower than this. This is a CUV, just like the Model Y which is 1624mm
Avoid EVs
I'm not 100% sure what the defining characteristics between an SUV and a station wagon but to my eye it is definitely an SUV. If the rear quarter windows didn't taper up, but instead followed the bottom line if the driver and rear passenger windows it would look more like a traditional station wagon (and it would look better for it IMO).
For a Chinese-owned company split out Volvo... ive got to admit... this is much more attractive than the last generation of Volvo vehicles. The front end styling is absolutely elegant. And IMHO even an upgrade from the PoleStar 1 and 2 which both still looked a bit too "ICEy" to me. If the rest of their EV cars continue in this vien they really are going in the right direction. Gorgeous. BMW and Mercedes have got absolutely nothing as cohesive as this, inside or out. A Chinese car that is more lovely than just about anything built in Germany right now.... is anyone else absolutely floored by that??
Also, it looks Mustang Mach E sized to me... which also seems less SUV than tall station wagon.
What a car!! Love this Johnny whens the test drive booked?
That b roll Road is the road to cofete on Fuertaventure, beautiful.
Agreed that there are definitely Renault styling cues here. Before you mentioned the fact that they purposely dropped the roofline of the rear, I was thinking that if the back didn’t drop away, it reminds me of the last model of Espace, especially from the side.
So this is actually a raised estate/wagon rather than an SUV. Good to hear the dimensions. Just lower it 30mm and you've got an estate.
Hopefully this is the start of a move away from the tall full size SUV's.
An absolutely brilliant point about the reverse process away from SUVs. Its becoming increasingly common. Its about time that the silliness stopped, we just need the final bit now when we stop using the term SUV... thanks Jonny, a great review of what looks like a great car.
It's a curious name really.
Sports utility vehicle.
An SUV isn't a sports vehicle, isn't a utility vehicle and isn't really a vehicle that's particularly useful for assisting in sporting activities. An estate with a bike rack or a van are both better vehicles for enabling outdoor pursuits.
Seriously good looking !! Well done again Polestar
Great video and info on a very interesting car. I'd say it's a AWD estate by modern standards.
Polestar have the best design language out there at the moment. It's a perfect blend of sportiness and minimalist simplicity.
I wish they had made a drivers information display like the Lotus Electre. Looks so neat. That would have made the cabin even nicer.
This is the review I'd been waiting for.
The state of that back end. When will cars look stylish again?
I liked your comment about the Polestar 3 that it is not as high as the usual big SUVs. I prefer Station wagons or Kombis as we say in Germany. So I would like a car that is higher but not too high. Great video thanks.
