Love the nod to the original book with the powered armor. The opening chapter when Rico making planetfall in his armor is so awesome.
That's why The Roughnecks computer animated series was the best. It also notes the alien race known as Skinnies being part of the conflict.

It's been a while since I read the book, but I seem to recall the suits in the book being much more mobile, flying as I recall. These lumbering things are feel like a compromise between the movie and the book, bringing in a bit of the book without straying to far from the movie.

I'm guessing they're prototypes, lacking jump jets like they did in the animated movies. I feel like this game takes place over the course of the three main movies.
Bro they added in the strobe light guns from the second movie to I would have been shocked if they didn't.
Whether adding a latest Power Suit Upgrade, from Missiles and Jet Pack will make them too OP.
sadly you get those Mk.II suits (from anime) late in the game. they are OP compared to classic MI.
The original power armor troopers from the novel would be simply too powerful to set in a tactical game, just a platoon would be enough to turn half a continent into radioactive sand.

@@alexanderfernandez5062 yes, they are, a basic Mobile Infantry trooper is equipped with a power armor, which have flight capacity, not extensive, but enough to provide an extreme mobility, and they never stop moving, running, jumping, short flying, etc.
No individual arachnid can survive a melee fight with a human equipped with the armor, it would be crushed, something that happened a lot when the infantry entered the tunnels, not that it make them invulnerable, many men died under the attack of dozens of bugs.
Is heavily armored against ballistic and energy weapons, as well as shielded against really high radiation, to the point that a trooper is able to survive the blast of the nukes the arachnids set off trying to ambush individual soldiers. The sensors are top notch, and the configuration varies depending on the trooper role, also, officers and NCOs have specific communication capabilities.
The Weapons are just beyond words. A basic trooper is armed with automatic nuke launchers, as well as nuclear missiles. Gatling cannons, Lasers that can cut through steel like butter, flamethrowers for close fighting, and even much more, like special bombs that speak out loud a regressive count: I am a bomb of 30 seconds, 29, 28, 27…. in the language of the enemy, I really likes that part, at the beginning of the novel, Rico finds himself in a room full of skinnies(another alien race, that gave the arachnids Earth’s location, and ended allied with Humanity, due to the very raid the Mobile Infantry conducted in their home planet) and dropped that surprise inside.
And at the same time, the armor is not cumbersome, to the man inside, it feels like wearing another set of clothes, to the point that is possible to actually dance with it.
A single trooper have the flexibility to destroy a city, and at the same time, liberate hostages from inside a building, without destroying the building.
Just a platoon can destroy a massive geographical area, or take control of it, a Company to continents, and a MI Division can destroy or occupy a whole planet.
In Heinlein’s words, a trooper in his armor looks like an steel gorilla, but no gorilla could survive a melee fight with a man in his armor.
But the bugs are also extremely formidable, the warrior caste is armed with a laser that can cut through a trooper’s armor like hot steel cutting butter, and is really difficult, at least that was the case in the first battles, to differentiate in between a warrior and a worker, the last being harmless.
Every single bug warrior is essentially like one of the scorpions of this game. But smaller, and in more numbers.
The arachnids as society and species are also way different to those of the movies, they actually have industries, are capable of building technology, like the warriors laser weapons, they make spaceships, build enormous underground industrial cities, as well as nuclear weapons.
But they are the ultimate collectivist society, with a central, or central brains doing all the thinking, while the Trillions of individual arachnids are just the most basic and primitive animals, that wouldn’t even survive for themselves without being remote controlled.
The Humans, of course, are the very opposite, a race of individuals, each one with his/her own brain, capable of almost infinite non predictable actions, thanks to the person unique independent thinking and personality.
That is actually very intriguing to the arachnids, who according to the reports of intelligence, and from the skinnies, keep human prisoners to try to understand a race so radically different than theirs, a race of individuals capable of making cities, spaceships, and armies. And a really formidable one, that even with far less numbers, are an existential danger to the arachnids.
The last mission, in Planet P, was to capture some of the “noble” castes, known to be in there, with the aim of establishing communications, in order to first, release the Human prisoners, something cardinal for the Terran Federation, that doesn’t accept any form of slavery, not only of any humans, but neither from any Alien under the protection of Human law. And second, to explore the possibility of negotiate peace.
Of course, if all that fails, the war wouldn’t end until one side, or both are totally destroyed.
The book is just Deep, and everyone who attacks it, have actually never really read the book.

This is what Starship Troopers is. Powered Suits, mechs and lots of good bugs.
Also, this mission is a thousand times easier without all the micromanaging.

A really great game. It would be nice see the addition of some of the exosuits of the RPG game: like the Grizzly or the Cougar. Also the Ape or the Chicken of the old CGI series: The roughnecks. Even those pesky firefly or imposter bugs would be kinda welcome.
hello Raptor from Bangladesh. I think you know this already, you can control your units easily by seclecting and press control + 1. I find it easy to command a single unit or a group of unit that way. Thanks for your video.
thing is though he never wants to do it, its not the first time its practically every time he ever touched an RTS he refuses to use the keyboard shortcuts so prepare for less than optimal gameplay and commentary about a fight being "very difficult" when its supposed to be easy....
He's playing extremely badly in that regard then, what a shame.

So there are "book compliant" units in the game? Cool. Not surprised to see that they are fairly high tier. The Mobile Infantry were pretty much a power fantasy in the book and three squads of those power armor troopers could wreck most of the early demo missions.
A single platoon could turn half a continent into radioactive ash, but the original arachnids were far too dangerous too, with the warriors using heavy lasers, and setting ambushes with buried nukes, just to kill one Mobile Infantry trooper.
@@freedomloverusa3030 indeed. to the game feels like a compromise between the books and the films/tv series. the escalation in power where you are getting better units and weapons to fight the ever deadlier varients of bugs that come to face you. at the beginning, your in the first film level troopers and tech, capable of killing bugs, but its a brutral mismatch of numbers and then the varients start to come in. the spitters which require you to use snipers, the tankers and scorpians that need heavy weapons and armor piercing, and the brutal tiger bugs which neccesitate those ap weapons to push the advantage in your favor. your given new toys and weapons to even the odds back toward your favor, but each time the bugs adapt to your tricks. suddenly your dodging plasma fire while contending with the horde, and even with Powered armor and MECHS...the enemy units are capable enough to keep you on your toes. its a brutal grueling fight, where you cannot afford to be wasteful.
Book-compliant units would mean the soldiers will be using nuke rocket launchers and high explosive bombs, along with flamethrower.
They're from the animated films Invasion and Traitor of Mars.

There are ZERO similitudes in between the book and the movies, not even the animated series, not the last CGI ones.

Dune, meets Starcraft...well just a very simple version of the combination.
How about: Go back to the book and forget any interpretation Verhoeven ever made of it. Start with a clean slate, and remember that the Bugs can shoot back and not just charge like praying mantises on crack.
That first movie was nicknamed “Melrose Space” by the most disappointed fans of the book.
How about this one: making a sequel novel?.
MECH suits are (imho) overpowered; gatling gun (2 suits), 1 flamer, 2 squads of lvl 3 rocket launchers and you can (more or less) walk through entire game (if you'd have those units in early missions). dont get me wrong; i love them, but imho those things are overpowered.

@@bondrewdthelordofdawn3744 in the book, the power armors were standard for all the Mobile Infantry, that is, EVERY SINGLE Trooper have a power armor, and every Fleet troop transport, have an armory equipped with spare armors.
There were different configurations, but the most basic was equipped with tactical nukes, in the first battle, Rico flights with the armor’s rockets, looking for a juicy target, and after finding the Skinnies spaceport, and what appeared to be the city water reservoirs, launched a couple of them, effectively making the city inhabitable, and that was just one trooper, there were a whole platoon literally turning the place into a hell, just to prove to the skinnies(who gave to the bugs Earth location), that even when the arachnids were indeed powerful, the Terran Federation could easily destroy them without even using orbital bombardment, and it worked.
They also had flamethrowers, heavy lasers, rockets, and missiles, Gatling guns, etc.
A platoon would be e ought to destroy or control a huge city, or an enormous open zone, a company could do the same to continents, and a division to a planet.
A single trooper was capable of an extreme flexibility, capable of destroying a city, and at the same time, cleaning a building without destroying it.
The arachnids were also much more dangerous, and advanced. Their warrior caste was equipped with heavy lasers, that cut through power armor like butter.
They laid ambushes to single troopers using buried nukes, and had spaceships, and industry, besides massive numbers.
For the most part, humanity was losing the war, but after gaining experience from the battles, and the study of the arachnids biology, they created chemical weapons, that were used in the tunnels, something that the arachnids really hated, as even the Skinnies told the intelligence division. The nova bomb, capable of destroying planets was also created.
But the main goal towards the end of the novel was to actually establish some form of communication, to explore the possibility of exchanging prisoners, that were known to be captive, because the arachnids were extremely intrigated with humankind(even more than humans with arachnids) a race of individuals capable of making cities, spaceships and armies.

I also unable to clear the last set of bug holes in normal mode.
If you start from the north and go clock wise, is an easy win. By the time you left last 2 sets of bug holes (where scorpions start appearing), there is only 1 plasma right beside the gate in the center.

DAMN those scorpion bugs are scary, they melt a marauder in 2 shots.
I don't if this is cheese/bug or not. For those having trouble on this challenge, just ignore the plasma bug and dodge it's attack.
The rest, kill the mobs and destroy the bug hive. By not killing the Plasma bug, if you made the enemy think your not a threat leaving you only facing those small Plasma grenadier, Warrior and Tiger.

If that is on normal then most of the high levels are unplayable. Yet in all other scenarios you can replace lost squad numbers.
I would love to see you review the Hasbro RTS game from 22 years ago to see just how many steps backward this game took.
I feel you could have had an easier time pushing if you were using abilities of troops on cooldown. Damn macros are hard as hell
He doesnt understand nor wants to understand/ use keyboard commands/shortcuts, if you view almost every other RTS video that he has done through out his channel you will almost never see him use a keyboard command and will almost always complain/comment that the fight was hard when it shouldnt have been.
The Scorpion Bugs need to be dealt with the Howitzer, as it can outrange the Scorpions, and rocket Power troops to deal with them, though admittedly the Scorpion bug spawning is very rough and busted right now.
You need two Howitzer Marauders or have 3 Rockets on Hold Fire so they can snipe the Scorpions the moment they pop up. Powered Armor Troopers with a Fleet Liason or Radio Operator (preferably both since they're squishy) are the best frontline for Marauders, since scorpion shots only kill one or two models instead of half of an entire platoon of E Troopers or Riflemen.
Basically when imperial guards got help from Adeptus Titanicus or Imperial Knight

Cool that the franchise is going good in the gaming sector looks like a fun game too. I mean the movies after the first one were terrible tbh. Would you like to know more.
It really is a fun game. The whole campaign is mostly very fun. Starts super easy, but then gets just hard and wild enough for it to be a tactical challenge. There are a few asshole missions where the game is like "No, you have to play this way now, you use the units I give you, fuck you", but only one or two missions are like that. Very fun overall. Only bugs I noticed (apart from the bugs) are sometimes a unit will get a seizure and will fail at pathfinding, or icons will get a seizure and get jittery, or a flamethrower engineer will try to attack something from outside his range. Minor, easily circumvented.

You're trying to make it sound so desperate. That's not difficult at all. You need at least twice the number of enemies to feel pressured with the squad you have. Only that Scorpion bug was difficult
This is what I was hoping for, a nod at the very least to the book.
Side note I hate how people misinterpret the book s being pro fascist, when in reality its a meritocracy, hell even the movie the federation isn't really a fascist government but a meritocracy again.
For those who dont know, meritocracy is simplified whoever is best suited for the job gets the job, hell you see that in the movie when the Klendathu aftermath, where the leading general (a white guy, skin color doesn't matter in a meritocracy) steps down and allows someone else to take his place willingly (a black women, again, meritocracy don't care about skin color or if you have a penis or a vagina, just if your best suited for the job)

This was part of movie timeline not the book, and the movie version have female mobile infantry.
@@chayudyodchit2872 like, it’s all female? Female only regiments and units? I remember it had a few women here and there, yet not enough to justify using female voices for all units in a game, it’s sexist and stupid to do so, by any stretch of the imagination.

I understand that $30 is a bargain price by today's standards, although that's driven primarily by the lack of multiplayer, but this game does not offer enough to justify buying. It's the same RTS skeleton we've had for going on 30 years now, with millimetric improvements to anything other than graphics and sound. The fact is, the single-player campaign is all there is, and it's... not enough. The first half is cruise control, the story is predictable, and the rest just doesn't have the exciting scenario or strategic diversity.
If the game had a really well-made skirmish system, something that could generate original-feeling maps with a deep list of tactical scenarios and events that reacted to and built on the procedurally-generated environment.... .... If... ...
Im a huge fan of the IP, but I don't know about this game. Feels like a mod for DoW, just with very little added. The look and feel is fine, but the gameplay is tedious. Shame.
What kind of janky piece of shit UI was that "Choose New Marauder" modal pop up. O.o 2:06 A huge box with small buttons on either side with a single line of text, sheesh.

More content based on the pathetic & stupid movie, instead of the outstanding book. So no Bugs using energy weapons or good tactics. And obviously no Bug vs Human starship battles. Just dumb bugs. And dumb bugs are boring bugs.

Both Legal Residents and Citizens have the same rights, the only difference is that a Citizen can vote and be part of the Government.
But a Citizen do not have any advantage over a Legal resident.
The Terran Federation in the book is an extremely inclusive and diverse free market society, where there is not racism, everyone have their Individual Rights protected, starting with Freedom of Speech, association, religion, etc. Is okay to be LGTB, everyone have the right to self defense, etc.
Even an individual who serves in the military is punished if he or she attacked a civilian.
The majority of people who criticize the book are just plain lazy to actually read the book.

@@MEGATRYANT indeed, the punishments for those who were in active duty at the Armed Forces was even harder that those of the legal residents, and citizens.
Is deeply discussed at Rico’s Boot Camp in Arthur Currie. The officer in charge of the base discusses that very thing during the court martial. As long as he was wearing civilian clothes, any civilian whom he had an altercation, regardless of the civilian being a legal resident or another citizen, would be treated under the same criteria than he, who was a high ranking officer.
shame this game will be dead by week 4 it was short lived and beat within 2 hours by someone on max difficulty lol with no MP and a half assed skirmish I don't see it lasting long
If they add multiplayer it might get really interesting depending on how they implement it
