The theme to the former radio station Wiltshire Radio on a 7" single brought in a Oxfam for 50p. Written by D Arnold & performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
I still have my copies of this. I used to use it for ending my tapes. Filling in the space at the end . It was most useful for breaking into bits and putting it into different lengths.
I wish more ILR stations did what Wiltshire Radio did, and issued their main station theme tune on 7" single and good quality Dolby System encoded stereo cassette tape copies to listeners to enjoy at home for an affordable price, it would be nice if that happened.
I live in Royal Wootton Bassett, and went to the Lime Kiln studios and bought this WR theme tune, very soon after the station opened. I'd just discovered that Dave Barrett, a friend of mine, with whom I went to school, in Slough, was part of this Great radio station. I bet he's jollying things up, somewhere in the next life. I was shocked to hear of his death. Also sad is the move away from the regulated I.L.R. system, into non local, conglomerative broadcasting. I broke my only copy of the theme tune, and it wasn't long before Independent Local Radio, went the same way. Where's the retro, time machine ? Best Wishes from Stephen-Michael Barrett. (No relation to Dave)
