When Elvis was making his comeback to live performing he wanted either Glen or James Burton to be his lead guitar player and pick the rhythm section. Glen was just hitting big in his solo career at that same time and so James Burton became Elvis' guitar player til the end. Elvis also did a great version of this song.
Jimmie Rodgers was/is my father. Glen played guitar on the original recording of the song alongside my father. The song has been recorded by Elvis(Aloha From Hawaii), Dusty Springfield, Eddy Arnold and many others. Thanks for mentioning him Roger.
I've always loved Jimmie Rodgers songs including this one (my favourites are The World I Used To Know & Someplace Green). I'm not surprised to hear Glen played on the original song. I also love his cover and of course Elvis's. Thanks for posting, they are all beautiful and timeless.
Beautiful. One of my favs from Glen, but most of his songs were wonderful..Could listen to them over & over. Don't write, or sing songs like this anymore.
Jimmie Rodgers wrote this song in 30 minutes, and he and Glen Campbell recorded it together in an hour and a half. Most people never knew that it was both Jimmie and Glen who played guitar on the original recording of this great song.
Dwight. You are correct. My father Jimmie Rodgers wrote this beautiful song which was also covered by Dusty Springfield, Eddy Arnold, and many others. A wonderful rendition was performed by Elvis Presley on the Aloha From Hawaii concert. My father was very proud of this song and the love it has received.
@@michaelrodgers9419 -- I read the story of how your dad was almost bludgeoned to death by a cop and how through grit and determination he was able to recover. He was an amazing man with a tremendous musical talent. I read that his voice covered three octaves. I often recall of when I was 12 years old, and my dad was in the Army and stationed in Germany, I would often go to the base Post Exchange and eat hamburgers and listen to Jimmie's songs on the jukebox. That was in 1959. I would love to have met him.
such a beautiful rendition of this song, as only Glen can sing... he sang so many songs that were so beautiful yet weren't recorded or did not chart, thank you for posting..
That looks like a rare Mosrite Balladere III-XII (3-12, style 403-12) that Glen's playing. Or at least, that's the best guess I have for it. It's not widely known that Mosrite made acoustics in the 1960s, but they did make some. I've never seen this 12 string model for sale online _anywhere._ Not that I looked every year since 2009, but these have to be rare. I don't expect they're worth a whole lot, though. Maybe $1,500 - $2,000 in good condition?
I got the hump with Glen bcos talking to other musicians he couldn't recall the impact of the song, long before he succumbed to memory loss. Still he got by. ha ha.
love Glen but this videos speed seems off and I checked my settings and they're on normal :/ hmmm. Awesome! Maybe it's just a much slower tempo for whatever reason...
@Anthony Costanza You'll find that's often the case with Glen's performances. One is never like the other. His guitar solos are always different as well. It's fun to find his videos and discover the differences. Some I like better than others, but they're never dull. BTW, the best "Southern Nights" is the one he does with Jerry Reed. Glen's wearing a yellow T-shirt. Go find it. You won't be sorry.
Glen was more then a great singer he was one of the best guitar players that's ever lived. I love his music. He is missed. RIP Mr Campbell
No one can come close to Glen..x
This is a perfect song for Glen Campbell to sing.

Glen had so much talent
It makes life worthwhile, and longing to see him again, right
Lest anyone forget, this song was written by the late, great Jimmie Rodgers. A timeless classic, chills down my back each time I hear it.

@@michaelrodgers9419 It's such a great song. I always wondered who wrote it and now I know.

Glen played guitar for Jimmie Rodgers' version of It's Over.
Great song
Thank you for uploading this tune, one of my favorites. One of the saddest songs ever written.
Look for, "Yesterday, When I Was Young."
Some great voices covered this song.

FANTASTIC GLENN LAS VEGAS NV

Listen to "The Last Time I Saw Her Face," pure poetry. Written by Gordon Lightfoot, performed by the great Glen Campbell.
bonkers, he's too great. Imagine that his career didn't take off till he was over 30, given the nature of pop careers.
Oh how beautiful yet so true, thanks so much.
I love his songs and style more and more! And that jangling is probably an Ovation guitar!!!!
So beautiful ,what a voice !
HE DID RECORD THIS SONG ON THE LIVE LP 1969
👍
Buey12 Buey12 I was at that concert in New Jersey 😀
Must have been fantastic 🎼🎸🎵🎶👍 i still have this Album now and many others of Glen - They were all my late fathers 👍
Plus Glen played on Jimmie Rodgers recording session for "It's Over".

not as recognized as he should be
OMG is that MAGGIE THATCHER 1.50 HA HA
Fantastic. I think this version is better than Jimmie Rodgers original, even though Rodgers wrote it. However, it’s still not quite as good Elvis’.
Elvis version is dreamy
