Color will spook fish, yes. If you're having trouble spooking fish with that bright line color, I would suggest coloring it a dark green or brown color with a permanent marker. It should cover most of the color up, but some will wash off. Good luck to you.

Where would I find a decent spot to fish?,,,, I do many types of fishing from sea to bait etc.. Recently started fly fishing and find it very rewarding but have only fished Lockwood beck... But would love to try the river any pointers on location? I have asked but of all the people I have fished with I must admit fly fisherman seem to be the most unhelpful or is it just the ones I talk too?

Hi Jonathan great videos, I couldn't help but notice you don't catch many salmon par. I fish the river South Tyne and the Tees and South Tyne are almost like brothers, I fish for salmon and sea trout, but tend to fish for brown trout also as dry fly fishing in my opinion is the most enjoyable. I don't catch many brown trout, just a lot of salmon par so why is it that these rivers are so close and brother like that you have a lot more brown trout ? From my own knowledge lead mines run into the river and wiped out the brown trout population but surely the river should be on the mend now ? The tees runs up a moor I live near and I'm sure (but not certain) that the tees was poisoned. I'm hoping you may be able to shed some light onto why we get more salmon par on the South Tyne and you get more brown trout on the Tees ?

Nathan Ramsey Tees and the South Tyne are more like cousins. Very different migratory fish runs and very different head waters. (and of course the Tyne has no grayling)

The run of migratory fish into the Tees is just about non existant since the Tees Barrage was built. The fish that do come into the Tees get as far as the barrage where they are then heavily predated by the waiting seals.
The next generation of migratory fish come from vastly reduced numbers of fry from the survivors that made it up the river.
Each year there is an exponential reduction of fry making it back out to sea and incoming fish looking to spawn.
Simply put, the Tees is lost to salmon and sea trout. Evidence of this is that the Wear is probably the best sea trout river in England and the Tyne is the best English salmon river.

You really need to get a remote microphone so we can hear you when you are away from the camera. Web search for "wireless microphone."
    Nice video - good techniques.
