    Husker Du one of those rare bands with two complete, accomplished songwriters and visionaries. Inevitably, this usually ends up leading to dissension, but when these two guys were firing on all cylinders in a complementary fashion, it was extremely powerful...

    Wow! Finally, Bob Mould in this channel! Actually, in any channel. One of the greats, no doubt about it. Thanks for the great reaction, as always. Thanks to Fran for bringing these two fantastic bands. I love Sorry Somehow too. I'm huge fan of Mould, including his solo work. The late Grant Hart has some great albums too. But Hüsker Dü and Sugar deserve a deep dive.

    The loudest concert I ever heard was Sugar at First Ave. It was probably 140 dB. My organs jiggled at the intensity.
    My guts and innards and organs resonated and reverberated. It was so effing loud!!! It was life changing. Vaguely unpleasant and everything I ever wanted.
    Top two live shows ever.

    For a more pensive Bob Mould check out his 'Workbook' album. His first
    after Husker Du broke up and one of 2 solo albums before Sugar started.
    I can't recommend him enough. Without Husker Du there would be no 90's
    alt music.

    The Lennon/McCartney of punk/alternative rock. Both Mould and Hart did great things in Husker Du and their work that followed. Each had a unique way when it came to crafting songs. Mould has been by far the more visible/successful post-Husker Du, but Hart's work in the 2000s until his death was remarkable as well. Copper Blue by Sugar is a tremendous record. Once you get a taste of what all these players had to offer, there really is no going wrong with any of it.

    The day Hüsker Dü broke up, I lost a little bit of my soul. But then Bob and Grant each released a solo album that year. I listened to both and thought to myself, “Well, this is pretty good, too…” It was like having two Christmases!
    Enjoyed this!

    Fran strikes again! Both bands feature Bob Mould. While I like Husker Du, I prefer the melodic power of Sugar. Bob Mould just strikes the right chord with me time after time. ANYTHING off of Sugar's epic album "Copper Blue" is fantastic... but if I had to pick one track to pick: The Slim. It's a powerhouse of emotions packed into one amazing song, about separating with someone, as well.
    Cheers!

      @frangarcia7774 3 роки тому +3

    Never was a big Husker Du fan , love the 2 Sugar albums I have , Cooper Blue and File under: Easy listening. If I Can’t change your mind is probably the poppiest track on both those albums. Great song choices by Fran! I was seriously considering creating a Top 10 for this channel for Hüsker Dü, one of the most influential punk rock/alt. rock bands in 80's (it will happen, but not next month as I have other things planned for that). Sorry Somehow would probably be one of the songs, but since it has now been reacted to here, I get an opportunity to select another one of their great songs (there are a lot to choose from!).
    It's funny that Trey mentions The Replacements for comparison, as they were both pretty big in the Minneapolis underground scene in the 1980's and had a lot in common in that they started off being very noisy and hardcore before gradually introducing melodies and slowing things down, moving to major labels and then disbanding before they really made it big. Nirvana's Krist Novoselic has been quoted for saying that Nirvana owed a lot to the Huskers, as they really introduced the combination of noisy punk rock and pop songs, which made Nirvana as big as they became. Hüsker Dü had done it all before them. Take one dose of Hüsker Dü and one dose of Pixies, mix it and you have the formula for Nirvana...

    I discovered Husker Du in the early 80s and saw them play live in London twice in 1985. "Sorry somehow" isn't particularly representative of most of their material, which was more raucous and intense on their first 3 albums. I liked Sugar but IMHO they never achieved the artistic heights of Husker Du even though they were more commercially successful.

  • @999zahra
    @999zahra 3 роки тому +5

    I have Husker Du's Candy Apple Grey and Warehouse Songs And Stories and they are nuggets of true gems within the two albums. I would love to but New Day Rising, the song to the NDR album of the same name is quite different as in quite hardcore.

    Shawn and Trey, I'm not familiar with these artists. The first song is a rocking song with a vocal delivery and lyrics that has an angst and frustration that is felt in the performance. The singer is letting out his feelings. The second song is a very upbeat high energy song. The tempo is brisk, good guitar. Good insight Trey on the vocal, good advice Shawn on relationships. Very good comments on each song by you guys. You both chose the first song as the winner of this battle and I agree, I also chose the first song as the winner.
