Miniatures in Wes Anderson films are done in such a way you can't tell they're ''real'' but you know they're not cgi. sort of inbetween state that suits his aesthetic perfectly. Thank God for filmmakers like him keeping these artists in work.
Hello everyone, I've been an amateur model maker for almost 58 years and you can't imagine how much fun your channel is to me. A big thank you and hello to all my fellow model makers around the world. Marc
I can't help that the surrealism of your miniature world, if duplicated in our real world would make our reality as beautiful as your artistic expression.
As a model builder, it does my heart good to this work still being done. Certainly CGI has its place, but nothing beats a physical modeler. You folks do beautiful work. 👍👍👍👍
Nothing? I don’t know about that. While model building may keep up with the times (doesn’t look outdated later)… CGI definitely offers some visuals that models and practical effects would not be a proper substitute for. I think the direction and style of the director also dictates what would be a good fit for the movie.
Movies made entirely out of CGI feel cold. The sizing of objects is often wrong, look at transformer movies, where in one scene the human fits in the hand, the next scene that same human is half the size of the robot??? The colours are off and often too bright, the depth perception is off, the granularity is off and I could go on and on. You are right and CGI has it’s place but it should be limited to things like back drops, vista’s, etc. Don’t (s)tell a story through a computer…
I am just a amateur hobby builder and seeing this stuff inspires me to keep building. I agree that CGI has allowed scenes that might've been impossible before but frankly it is too overused in places where a miniature or bigature would do just as well, if not even better. A good example of a good blend of physical models and CGI was Netflix Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. They used puppets, sets, props, etc and CGI was used to smooth out and refine certain details. I feel for the SFX artists who poured their heart and soul into the 2011 The Thing cause they were told it would be mostly practical effects with CGI for only certain scenes but during editing they saturated the movie with so much CGI you could not appreciate their efforts.
@@GillesvanZeebroeck Did the movie Avatar feel cold? What about Star Trek? Interstellar? Even when models are used, CGI is used to bring the live action together.
As a builder of scale models, it really makes one appreciate the skill involved in constructing these masterpieces. Scratch-building at it's finest. Bravo.
So happy to have the music from the movie in this piece as well. The movie was a masterpiece. Bravo on the beautiful models! Your work is appreciated!!!
I wish to one day see all of these in a dedicated Wes Anderson museum. That is such incredibly dedication to details and his very unique aesthetic style. So impressive!
I’m so thrilled to see artists and craftspeople work like the old days of film. So much talent pushed aside by CGI over the last few decades. Beautiful pieces !
CGI has its place but has been overused and directors and producers that have an artistic vision can get the best out of both due to their creativity. Dune recently used both CGI and practical effects. I think that there has to be a move towards making films with a lower budget so that they then do not have as much pressure at the box office and it means more profit and then more films get made.
Wow the amount of and attention to detail is unreal. Absolutely stunning, I shake too bad to do that type of work anymore. Please keep the art going by passing your talent on to others.
I can watch this for days, without eating or sleeping! It's so fascinating! Only people that love this kind of work can understand that this is sooooo awesome!!!
my favourite thing about these miniatures is that theyre allowed to look like miniatures, they dont have to be hyperrealistic but are allowed to have that slightly cartoonish quality to them that makes it all the more perfect.
This is exquisite! The models, Berton Pierce's video, Alexandre Desplat's music... I hope the models themselves are preserved (like the beautiful sets of the Brothers Quay, which were shown at New York's Museum of Modern Art).
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic and nearly unbelievably well done (video and work). Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all involved people.
What a Doll House. Such creative people and what amazing attention to detail. Unfortunately in a few years of software development something that was known as “hand made” will become “mouse made” and the average viewer won’t even notice the difference. Where is there a museum dedicated to house and display all those amazing miniatures. What a place that would be to stroll away an afternoon. Great work … 👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wes Anderson's reputation is due in no small part to the incredible skills of artisans like these fine people. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result. Thank you for your hard work, some of us movie goers notice it and are grateful. (The others maybe don't notice consciously but can't fail to subconsciously, so it's all good 😉)
@@piercefilm These golden moments are getting much fewer. At Weta Workshop, we have so few movie miniatures to build and document these days... . ...no thanks to our !!!***!! brethren at Weta Digi ;)
I also have a short "making of" from The Grand Budapest Hotel here on my channel. Wes Anderson is one of the last directors to still use miniature effects.
The last one is a Boeing 314 "Clipper", a long range flying boat, designed around 1936 and first flown on June 7th, 1938. It was introduced in 1939. In total, 12 were built. 6 Belonged to Pan Am, 3 to British Overseas Aircraft Corporation (B.O.A.C) and the last 3 to the U.S Navy.😊
Absolutely fantastic! This is on the exact same level as, say, the team of Miniatur Wunderland, the world's largest and finest model railroad and many other model and prop makers. Nothing beats real miniature modeling. To top it all, Wes Anderson shoots on real 35mm film, which still is the most gorgeous looking image by far. Very happy that there is still a real physical, tangible world, more beautiful than anything virtual could ever hope to be.

Physical models and Matte Paintings. They can make a scene have warmth that CGI still hasn't been able to.

No you wouldn't, that's a horrible thing to do.

I grew up with Thunderbirds and Stingray and have never lost the sense of awe that inspired model making can produce on film. Magnificent work.

This is amazing. When I saw the movie I absolutely couldn't tell there were so many models! that's brilliant
There were a lot more, but I didn't get a chance to film them being made!
I'm in absolute awe of the artistry of the model makers....
It's fascinating to see the amount of detail in these creations.
Amazingly detailed models; skill and artistry combined 👍
Artists like this and especially Wes Anderson give me hope.

There is a great museum for film props and miniatures in Lyon, France.
I was thinking it looked like a Wes Anderson set--and of course it is! Great work!
As someone who saw these models in person at the recent exhibition in London, I really appreciate the craftsmanship of them
All the model makers ROCK!!
thank you for all your hard work, some of which I didn't even realize was models while watching the movie
Talent is commitment.........and results are formidable !
Thumbs up for the skills, talent, & creativity! 👍👍
That's brilliant work. I love the distinctive touch that the model work gives to Anderson's films.
Model making was once a necessary craft. This makes me smile.
Outstanding! Now I'm interested in the movie.
Fascinating to watch - thank you.
My brother, a modeler of many years, will love this! Thanks!!
This is the coolest thing I've seen in my entire life!
I have a couple more of these short "model shop docs" coming up next year after the films are released!
Nice to see practical effects being used. I want those plane models!!!! Great work!
Wow! That's art at its best! Very talented people, congrats!!
What a dreamy feeling for the eyes to build a small world
Excellent work! I’ll have to go watch it again with a different focus to simply admire all the work that was put into this kind of stuff :)
I never imagined the future now people loving models and scale versions of stuff but I absolutely love it

I just thought I’m getting Wes Anderson vibes these models, had no idea it was actually for one his films.
It would be great if the likes of a Wes Anderson film could be made for less money so that there would be more profit in it.
You people really love liking this guy's ass, the French dispatch was garbage.
spectacular work !!!
That is awesome to see ladies and gentlemen building such incredibly beautiful models right on you guys and gals
Berton... I AM IN HEAVEN!!!♥♥♥♥♥ ..Quite possibly your most delightfully magical, wonderful short yet!!!
...must add... this old modelmaker softie actually had to reach for tissues by the end of watching! Truly and utterly perfect!♥
That was my feeling when I was allowed to film this little "making of" in the model shop!
