What frustrates me about August is that he is NOT broke. His mom specifically says he could sell a piece of art or some property he inherited to pay for his tuition. August's money problems are entirely his own fault for his stubborn refusal to let go of a hoarded assets just for appearance's sake. August is one of those people who takes an easily rectified issue and makes it everyone else's problem.
Thank you! This is exactly what I came here to say. Sometimes even Ritchie Rich types have to bite the bullet and make do. Zero sympathy for August.
@@derekpearce4987 I have a little sympathy for August. Very little, but some. The assets he would have to sell are his father’s assets. His father killed himself, so August probably has a bit of trauma around that. Those assets are all that he has left of his father. These are first world problems to be sure, but I can see why it would be hard for him. Of course he may have to make some hard decisions, and it’s hard to have sympathy for someone who is such an unpleasant person, especially when they have so much more than so many people. But looking at him as a teenager with recent trauma, I can’t help but feel a little bad for him.
@@mariahdaley4773 Also if he sells some of the assets...he likely will NEVER be able to reaquire them...so he will be selling his...social status, permanently, in a way as well. Which he doesn't want to do. He wants to stay where he is... social status-wise because it's intrinsicly tied to his reputation and stuff which is very important to him, from what we know of him...so I think that's why he is super duper hesitant to liquidate some of his father's estate/assets. As well as it being the only thing he has left of his father. And probably tied to the trauma of his father's suicide.
I mean I hate august too, but its one of his family heirlooms (correct me if I’m wrong).. so he might have an attachment to it that isn’t healthy
@@uleilei Yeah, I guess. I've just lived below the poverty line my entire life, so I have little to no tolerance for that. I've literally had to sell family heirlooms to pay my electric bill before. When people with a lot of resources act like having to let go of something to pay for an unnecessary luxury (which boarding school completely is) is the worst thing that could ever happen, I get really annoyed. Yes, all of August's friends are at Hillerska, but it's not as if his life will be ruined by switching schools. Plus, he has relations who could (and do) help him pay for school. Hell, even his friends could fund it. August is just too proud to ask for help.

three things about this ep you just HAVE to know:
1) in ep 1, wilhelm was telling erik to drive slow...and that's how erik died :(
2) when wilhelm and simon were talking about going to simons place at the end, wilhelm got a call, that he cut... apparently that call was from his mom but he cut it and that's why wilhelm had to find out through the school phone.
3) when erik and wilhelm talked about wilhelm's crush, erik didn't use any pronouns and so we think erik knows wille's a lil ✨🏳️🌈
number 2 in your list KILLS ME. I didn't notice it until a few watches through and now it breaks my heart every single time.
And that's even without touching on #3, and how close they were, and he's basically the only family member Wille feels close to.

Erik didn't use female pronouns when discussing Wilhelm's crush. He totally knew or suspected his brother wasn't straight. He would have stood up for Wilhelm and Simon.
Didn't they tweet that erik didn't know about it? I think they did.

Interesting I never read it as that but I guess for me the question "Du har träffat någon?" Is like what would be normally asked as it is less words than and sounds less clunky than "Har du träffat en tjej?" or "Har du träffat en kille?". Like idk for me it's just one of the most common way to ask someone if they are dating someone or likes someone.

Eric's death is so tragic on another level than the obvious, too. As if leaves Wilhelm without any one on his side. There seem to be no friends, his family is only putting expectations on him and August is a dumpass. Basically, he only has Simon, which makes the development to follow the even more tragic
also makes him crown prince which complicates the situation of his sexual orientation
yuo and he has no one at his side with his new duties bc the only person that could understand that's death is the reason he has more duties...
Oh yeah I never thought about it that way. I suppose that somewhat justifies his behaviour

When Erik and Wilhem are on the phone, Eriks says ”you have a crush on someone!” And Wilhelm replys ”fuck you - it’s not a crush!”
The translation isn’t perfect. ”Ragg” in swedish implies that it’s mostly sexual. Like a hook up, or just something causal. So really - Wilhem isn’t denying that he has feelings for someone - he’s denying that Simon is just a casual fling :)
I just watched that part in the English voices. And they say crush there also :( too bad they didn't go for hook up or one night stand or something. I get that crush sounds better in a sentence but it gives the complete wrong direction 😅

Omar who plays Simon is actually a musician. He just put out an album. He sings in Swedish, Spanish, and English.
Yeah, this is his first acting gig, but he debuted as a singer in 'Talang' in 2010 (like an early 'Sweden Got Talent') as only 12-13 years old. Then he was in a boyband called FO&O for 5 years and been participated in 'Melodifestivalen' (Eurovision) 3 times - once with the band and twice as a solo singer - last time this year.

Fun fact: when I watched the show for the first time right before they said that Eric got in a car crash and died, y’know when people were giving Willie strange looks. I paused Netflix and out loud to myself went “OK either August is dead probably an overdose possibly on purpose or it’s the brother and it’s probably a car crash.” And I was right. Car crashes are a very common death, I mean first it was Princess Diana and now it’s this guy.

I'm pretty sure Wilhelm knew exactly what he was feeling for Simon, it's him stuggling with the fact that he's royalty that's the problem. Liking the same sex when he has a reputation and hierarchy to hold up and everything is what he's really struggling with. He went to the boarding school to stop rumors surrounding him. So it's not really about him lying to himself about being straight, but the fact that he must be straight as a prince unfortunately, and can't risk more rumors. So sad for him that he has all this responsibility and expectations at such a young age. Loving your reactions to this show!
for your first lesson in learning swedish: the translation at 10:41 is wrong. ragg means "one-night stand or person i have flirted with a few times but without it having to lead anywhere..." i would not use the word crush to translate it. wilhelm has a crush on simon. more like "wilhelm är förälskad i simon".
and oh, how to pronounce wilhelm = ignore the w in wil and swap it with a v + helm as in helms deep. you are welcome!

13:20 The actor, who plays Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) has been very vocal, about why he think, it's important that Wilhelm's sexuality isn't defined, and I agree. I think it's absolutely lovely, that Simon finds comfort in labelling himself as gay, but I also think, we sometimes have a tendency to assume that people are either straight or gay, depending on who, they're dating, even though there are in actuality an endeless amount of different sexualities out there.
I like this idea, sexuality doesn't need a label. You should just be able to like who you like and that's enough, not everything needs a label.

As far as “villain” characters go August is soooo well written and fleshed out. I can’t wait to see season 2 and hopefully get even more backstory about him. And Malte is such a great actor and deserves so much recognition for his acting choices. He is really excellent.

Just to let you know for the future, Asperger’s isn’t the term for autism anymore. It’s all just called Autism Spectrum disorder or autism. I have autism myself and the disability advocacy community don’t use that term anymore and it’s not even a diagnosis anymore (at least in America). The term Asperger’s was named by a Nazi named Hans Aspergers to basically tell if a person with autism should live or die based on they’re difficulty’s and intellect.

Hi, just a little thing i should probably say: I dont know how it is over in the UK or Sweden, but i do know that over in the US Asperger’s is no longer a term, because Hans Asperger was a nazi that determined whether or not autistic people would deserve to live. Asperger’s and Autism used to be separate terms, but they arent anymore
