22 & 25. Though they might not be the most practical, but the craftmanship and intricacy of the design are just facinating, and the faceplate must make the wearer a terror to behold in a battle field. On that note, 1 I also like.
A beautiful selection! 7: The Horned Helmet is known as 'Max' by the museum. It's an extraordinary piece. It was made for Henry VIII but there's a really interesting debate as to its history and what it might have been used for. We have a couple of behind the scenes videos on our channel for those interested.
One thing that I'd like to know is why is it that a 16th-17th century style setting is so underrated in fantasy? The 30 years war was just about as ''grimdark'' as it got in terms of wars up to that point, so if that's what you want look no further, but in general I think a renaissance / early modern setting in fantasy would be a refreshing change, I guess it's the whole idea that as firearms became a major thing in the Europe knights just up and dissapeared! Well anyone who knows history knows this isn't true, I mean it's not just the fact that people are still being knighted, but also the fact that knights just didn't up and dissappear, they just switched their lances to pistols and got fancier and more protective armor. But I have to say that my personal favourite is the ''Totenkopf'' skull style Burgonets, just imagine the sight of guys charging at you firing their pistols at close range then a guy charges trough the smoke with his pitch black armor and skull shaped helmet, hell if I was an infantryman back then and I didn't know any better I would think that death himself has stepped on the field to reap a bloody harvest.

love the choice of the DS3 theme. it's very impressive how well the developers/modelers studied these designs. it's a difficult call, but for me it's between numbers 10 and 12. both bring to mind vilhelm's set (which has always been one of my favorites.) vilhelm being a germanic name and helmet 12 being of germanic origin deepens my appreciation that much more. awesome video
xD seven minutes into the clip; almost 2/3 through "... but enough with the introduction..." hilarious :D - great video btw. I do appreciate the talk about historic background very much. It's just funny that it took twice the time it took to show the actual helmets - also i would have prefered if you had given some more information about each helmet instead of just making a slide show of the pictures. May the video be 30 minutes. Fine for me, just tell me where those helmets are from, for whom were they made and stuff like that you know. :)
Number 25 is probably my favourite. It looks very functional (When the visor is down), is artistically wonderful, would be a terrifying sight to behold on the battlefield and has the gold on black aesthetic.
A list of every piece of armor that a careless dark souls player left in our world while invading it: 6:12 : Smough's leggings (feet only). 6:28 : Lothric knight set. 6:53 : Firelink armor set. 7:33 : Lapp's helmet. 7:42 : Helmet of the wise. 7:47 : Ornstein's helmet. 7:52 : Ornstein's helmet. 7:58 : Vilhelm's helm. 8:12 : Exile helmet. 8:27 : Giant dad's helmet. 8:42 : Morne's helmet. 9:27 : Helmet of the wise. 9:33 : Lapp's helmet OR the Ruin helmet. Tell me if I missed something.
uhh... Nobody is going to talk about that thing at 6:58, that ridiculous suit in the middle..? The arms are bigger than the legs. If someone could fit their legs into that, they would not be wide enough in the shoulders to fit at the top, and then their arms would not reach into the arm holes far enough.
7, it has to be the most memorable one, if a knight came charging at me with such a demonic and twisted helm that resembles a crazy jester face, I would turn my white undies to brown, wet cloth, and I would rush to the nearest church for sanctuary. I wanted to also mention that 7 reminds me of the ''Demon Jester'' Shaco from a game called League of Legends.
Its nothing but a no man's land of black dirt, destroyed carriages, rotting corpses of man and horse, a few small fires dot the scenery. You look around, exploring the hellish landscape, when suddenly you hear movement. A warrior rises from the mud, arrows jutting out snapped and broken from his frame. He slowly turns to you, sword still held in his hand, and you see helmet #1 peering at you in the dead silence.
Sad Real fact : Many people in the comment section just wanted to see the armour and not want listen to the history, if you just wanted to see the armour then go to a review video (or whatever that type of video is called), because this is a history video its main purpose is to explain and make people knew about the difference betwen armour in medieval times and the armour in the 16th century (Renaissance). If you call that a clickbait the video title it is clearly written "And 16th century Knight Armour" and even if you just want to know how the armor look like then just google it Problem solved. And if you need to make a project about it knowing how the armour looked like but did not know the history is not gonna help you finish the project
This piece belonged to Henry, but the face shown on the helmet is a caricature of Maximilian I, "The Last Knight". Henrys idol. The Helmet and the lost armor was a gift from Maximilian to Henry. It probably was part of the humor of the time, so long ago, we do not understand it anymore.
Hello Metatron, watching this an old question of mine came back to surface. I love painting miniatures and I often lack a feeling of security painting steel armour - because (and here's my question): What colours do steel armours have? What does a shiny silver colour (e.g. helmet no. 15) say about the armour, what does a more grey look (20) say? What about blackened steel, what about goldened parts (2) or painted armour (6)? Right now I'm painting men-at-arms from the period of the War of Roses and if you may answer this question in a video and should be going to cover the changes in the steels used and how it was worked with, a glimpse at the late 15th century I would appreciate very much. Thank you.
I liked #15 and #21 for their detail. I agree, #1 would be the most terrifying to face down one-on-one or on the field. I'd like to see someone use it's visual characteristics as the basis for a modern ballistic protection helmet and mask. I'd like to hear more about #7, it seems like there's got to be an interesting story behind that one and whoever commissioned/wore it. (As in, WTF was going on in that person's head?!?!?)
Impossible to choose just one helmet .These are my choices. The most elegant: 15. The most incredible artwork: 22. The more practical:17. The most ridiculous: 7. /// I like your videos , you have a nice way to explain
Number 9, the weird sea-monster/creature one with sharp teeth. Not only shows an impressive craftsmanship, it seems pretty functional, allows for good vision, and it would be absolutely terrorific. And, on a second note, the Morrión of the 21 picture looks fantastic and gorgeous.
#17 (8:31); for that appears the ideal combination of form and function. Most of the other helmets--although highly ornate (and indeed: interesting)--suggest a liability more than a benefit in combat; particularly, any of those sporting gratuitous metal crests, cowlicks and other unnecessary plumage. Remember: pride goeth before a fall. That having been said: the frog lip helmets are also appealing, as in the case of #5 (7:33) and #29 (9:32).
Absolutely incredible showcase. Number 19 is that a friggin dragon!!?? Great music too. I'm gonna say number 19 and number 11 are my favorite. I love number 26 too how bizarre!!
These are not just pieces of armor, they are works of art!
Dirty dan and the colour is red
Some are Lunatic art I must say.
