Ivan Black's mesmerizing kinetic sculptures collection.
IVAN BLACK, born in 1972 in London, is an award winning British sculptor. He began making sculptures at an early age, motion quickly becoming central to his work, adding another dimension of complexity and interest to his experiments.Ivan Black's work uses a series of unique mechanisms to create moving sculptures. Energy is channelled into Black’s works through anything from the interaction of the viewer to the natural power of blowing wind and the targeted use of principles of gravity. When the intended form of energy interacts with the sculpture, it plays out a chain reaction creating shifting patterns of motion from random to highly organised movements.
His Square Wave sculpture is now part of the MoMA Museum in NY and Tokyo, as well as the MOCA in Los Angeles. His recent work includes two massive sculptures for Adobe Inc's headquarters (yet to be unveiled) in the USA, as well as the newly opened Nobu Hotel in London.

I really want some of these; does anyone make and sell them; copies or something?.. There are many wind spinners that were art at one point but now you can buy the same designs on Amazon for cheap.

Hi, these are original designs and copyrighted. I doubt you will find these on 'Amazon', also because they are really massive sculptures.

@@Dronescapes They could be scaled down. They may need to be placed perfectly level to work though, unlike some of the other wind spinners. I asked at a place that sells smaller versions of his work (kinetrika) and they said: "​our company is in continuous development so it is very likely that one day these works of art will also be reproduced on a small scale for the public."

I know :) Kinetrika is part of Atellani. We are indeed working on new versions, but the larger sculptures are quite complex. Keep in mind that they sell for several 10s of thousands of dollars each and are usually commissioned by the likes of Adobe Inc. or Nobu, or an iconic Sci-Fi Movie / Tc Series that is probably also going to feature Square Wave as well. The large ones have several complex components. Once England opens up and we are all vaccinated we will visit and spend some time with Ivan Black, to see what we can develop together.

@@Dronescapes The red vane looks pretty simple to reproduce with a load of perspex sheet, other than what bearings would work. They are copyrighted designs; but is it legal to try and reproduce them just for oneself, not to sell?.. If it's legal I might have a go one day - rather than have to save up 10s of thousands of £££ and have to wait years for us plebs to be able to appreciate the art at home.
